Speedy deletion nomination of 2013 MLS SuperDraft edit

Please refrain from introducing inappropriate pages, such as 2013 MLS SuperDraft, to Wikipedia. Doing so is not in accordance with our policies. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hi,

how about keeping any traded draft picks, complete with references, on a temporary page within your userspace until the article will eventually be created? I did the same for NHL Entry Draft picks. Saves a lot of work. ;-) --Soccer-holicI hear voices in my head... 10:56, 6 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

A tag has been placed on 2015 MLS SuperDraft requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.) or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. 2004 MLS SuperDraft edit

I understand that using that date format avoids any nationalism issues, but there is no country on earth that uses YYYY-MM-DD as their standard date format. Since the article pertains directly to a North American subject, surely it should use the North American date format of Month Day, Year? – PeeJay 20:00, 13 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

I prefer to use the international format because it is easy to use and easy to understand. While MLS is North American-based, the long-standing goal has been to increase the international stature of American (and Canadian) players and grow the league internationally. An international format seems appropriate.Bubbagump24 (talk) 14:27, 17 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
So this is just your own personal preference, is it? Or is there a consensus among the members of the United States and Canada soccer task force? If it's just your opinion, then I think I should tell you that Wikipedia does have umbrella guidelines for this sort of thing. According to WP:STRONGNAT, "articles on topics with strong ties to a particular English-speaking country should generally use the more common date format for that nation". Further up that same page, it also says "Year-initial numerical (YYYY-MM-DD) dates (e.g. 1976-05-31) are uncommon in English prose, and should not be used within sentences. However, they may be useful in long lists and tables for conciseness." Since there are no major conciseness issues here, I think we should default to the North American date format. – PeeJay 14:55, 17 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
You mean like the date that is listed after your signature? Oh wait, that's not the North American date format either. Maybe that should be changed, too. The international format is easy; it works. I doubt the dozens of people that visit this wikipage each month will be confused.Bubbagump24 (talk) 15:49, 17 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, I don't understand the reference to my signature. Why would my signature be in a mainspace page? Userspace pages don't have to follow mainspace guidelines since they're not for the majority of Wikipedia's readership to see. That article, on the other hand, is part of the encyclopaedia, and so we should make it so that everyone can understand it, not just those who are familiar with that style of date format. Wikipedia has these guidelines for a reason, you know. – PeeJay 18:55, 17 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
Well...? – PeeJay 17:19, 19 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
I could use your help researching and referencing the 2003 MLS SuperDraft. It appears nearly every pick was traded, some more than once. There are probably 30 trades we need to document. I'll take rounds 1-3 if you don't mind taking rounds 4-6. Before that if you could change the columns and place clubs before players since clubs pick players, not the other way around, then separate the players from their listed positions and create a column for positions. Then we can start researching the trades though it's time-consuming since MLS switched their domain name and basically deleted all press releases and league articles from prior years. It'll help to look at the 2002 standings and playoff results. That way you can set up a spreadsheet showing what the natural 2003 selection order was, then go from there. Thanks for your help! Excellent work edit

I just wanted to commend you for a spectacular job on 2011 MLS SuperDraft. It's very well organized and well referenced. I'd like to encourage you to consider submitting it for featured list consideration. I think it's pretty close to meeting all of the criteria already (perhaps a slightly more expanded lead would be good). --SkotyWATC 00:18, 16 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Seattle Sounders roster edit

I know there are reports, but if the official team website shows that the player is still on the roster, it's just me but I think it would be best not to remove the player until there actually full confirmation. Usually when they're no longer in camp, they're pretty much cut from the team, but I would wait to make sure. – Michael (talk) 20:51, 1 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Timbers Transfers edit

Hi. I do like the full job you did on the transfers. Excellent work. There is something that has been bugging me for awhile, though. I don't think players that never signed should go in the IN table, it's confusing despite your full explanations. This would include Bornstein, Findley and the draft picks who were never offered a contract. They need to be somewhere in the article, though. What do you think? DemonJuice (talk) 16:31, 17 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

I'm the guilty party that put them in the In table... mostly because I was being lazy. I am all for removing unsigned players from it, though. I just think there needs to be a draft section so that the picks are documented. DemonJuice (talk) 21:03, 17 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

April 2011 edit

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. Users are expected to collaborate with others and avoid editing disruptively.

In particular, the three-revert rule states that:

  1. Making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24-hour period is almost always grounds for an immediate block.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you continue to edit war, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. Intoronto1125 (talk) 22:00, 1 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Recreation of deleted articles edit

If an article has been deleted as part of a deletion discussion, do not recreate it as a substantially the same article. If you believe the concerns raised in the deletion discussion are no longer relevant, take the following steps:

  1. Talk to the deleting administrator (i.e. the admin who closed the deletion discussion).
  2. If you and the deleting admin cannot agree, or the deleting admin does not respond in a reasonable amount of time, then bring the discussion for review at WP:DRV.

If you do not follow the above steps, the article will be speedy deleted as per WP:G4. If you constantly inappropriately recreate deleted articles, despite all the cautions otherwise, you could be temporarily blocked. Singularity42 (talk) 19:50, 3 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Deleting templates edit

It was suggested, during the recent deletion discussions for various MLS player articles, that they should probably have better referencing. So when you remove {{citation needed}} templates (and the {{updated}} one as well) as you did {[diff|MLS International Roster Slots|759928644|759921857|here}}, it's a problem. If you don't like it, discuss why on the article's talk page. If you don't think it's needed, discuss why on the article's talk page. Please do not simply remove it, particularly without explaining why in your edit summary. Walter Görlitz (talk) 02:16, 15 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

January 2017 edit

Please do not remove maintenance templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to MLS International Roster Slots, without resolving the problem that the template refers to, or giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your removal of this template does not appear constructive, and has been reverted. You did not respond here or on the article's talk page after I commented. You did not leave an edit summary as to why you are removing the citation needed template and the updated template so I am left wit the option of warning you, which I do not enjoy. If you continue, you could be blocked. Find references. Walter Görlitz (talk) 18:46, 21 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I'm Walter Görlitz. I noticed that you made a change to an article, MLS International Roster Slots, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now. Please note that the verifiability policy mandates that unsourced material that has been challenged, such as by a "fact" tag, or by its removal, may not be added back without a reliable, published source being cited for the content, using an inline citation. The cited source must clearly support the material as presented in the article, and the burden is on the person wishing to keep in the disputed material. So if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so, following these requirements! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. You continue to remove the template and the need for citations and I've had enough. Walter Görlitz (talk) 21:17, 28 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

You did it again and so did I. Walter Görlitz (talk) 23:28, 4 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

February 2017 edit

Please stop continuing to remove maintenance templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to MLS International Roster Slots, without resolving the problem that the template refers to. This may be considered disruptive editing. Further edits of this type may result in your account being blocked from editing. Walter Görlitz (talk) 15:15, 5 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Please stop adding unsourced content, as you did to Carlos Vela. This contravenes Wikipedia's policy on verifiability. If you continue to do so, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Mattythewhite (talk) 15:37, 31 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
