Help decide the future of Wikimania

The Wikimedia Foundation is currently running a consultation on the value and planning process of Wikimania, and is open until 18 January 2016. The goals are to (1) build a shared understanding of the value of Wikimania to help guide conference planning and evaluation, and (2) gather broad community input on what new form(s) Wikimania could take (starting in 2018).

After reviewing the consultation, we'd like to hear your feedback on on this survey.

In addition, feel free to share any personal experiences you have had at at a Wikimedia movement conference, including Wikimania. We plan to compile and share back outcomes from this consultation in February.

With thanks,

I JethroBT (WMF) (talk), from Community Resources 22:01, 12 January 2016 (UTC)

A modest proposal

George Alexander Gibson Thanks for your review!
Using one of the sources in this article (and even this article as a rough template), we could do a series of articles on each of the doctors from whom heart murmurs are named, and nominate them for WP:DYK. Could be a multiple nomination. Just a thought. Let me know if you are interested; I would be happy to help.

Seattle sculpture

Hey! Just an FYI, I am currently working to create red links for all Seattle sculptures that were surveyed by Smithsonian's "Save Outdoor Sculpture!" program. Not all works will meet Wikipedia's notability threshold, but it is good to conduct this survey and identify works that may be notable enough. If you are interested, check out Wikipedia:WikiProject Seattle/Sculpture, which is still a work in progress. This is similar to the work I've done in Portland/Oregon as part of the Oregon Arts Project. Let's catch up soon! ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:00, 28 January 2016 (UTC)

Racz BLP

Hi, Bluerasberry - thank you so much for taking on the review. Question - I just emailed a query to the email addresses for Racz that I used in the past for permissions needed by Commons. The doctor's secretary responded with a copy of his ID but I don't think it would be appropriate to share that publicly. Is there a way to verify his place of birth (Budapest) so the information can be used in the article (and appropriately verified) but that is not readily available to the public? Perhaps the university could verify it in writing? Atsme📞📧 19:10, 29 January 2016 (UTC)

"Gabor B. Racz Biography" (PDF). Retrieved January 29, 2016. 7&6=thirteen () 19:13, 29 January 2016 (UTC)
Atsme It seems that 7+6 has an idea.
What you propose has been discussed somewhere recently - WP:PUMP? Maybe Commons pump, or the OTRS mailing list? I am not sure. I do not have a good answer for you. As I recall, the issue is unsettled. Wikipedia's verification process sometimes makes it difficult to confirm certain basic facts.
I see no problem with leaving the issue unsettled, like with a citation needed tag. This is no barrier to getting good article status.
Another option could be to send in private information through OTRS, get someone to confirm it, then use "personal communication" as a reference that links to that Wikipedia articles's talk page. This is an odd way of doing things but it has been done before. In academic literature "private communication" is a common citation, and although I would not post an OTRS ticket number in an article, it could be used on a talk page.
I do not think that this should be a barrier to evaluating the article, and I understand that some things cannot have citations. If there is a good reason for something to be presented without a citation, I do like that to be noted somehow, so that people know to not look for a citation. What are your thoughts? Blue Rasberry (talk) 19:23, 29 January 2016 (UTC)
I put in that citation, and there is already another for that fact. That they are not from independent WP:RS does not seem to be a deal breaker to me. That they corroborate each other and apparently have orgins close to 'the source' actually makes them more reliable, not less, on such a de minimis and more or less incontrovertible fact. IMO. 7&6=thirteen () 19:30, 29 January 2016 (UTC)

Your GA review

Hi - just wondering if there was anything else you needed me to do before you finished the Gabor B. Racz GA review? Atsme📞📧 09:33, 6 February 2016 (UTC)

Wikipedia Loves Libraries

Almost one year before, you said that Wikipedia:Wikipedia Loves Libraries is an ongoing campaign. Is that still true ? That article tells me about Planned 2014 events and thus looks quite outdated. -- Juergen 5.146.93.86 (talk) 10:46, 6 February 2016 (UTC)

The page is outdated but yes, the campaign is ongoing. There is an event series every October and related projects several times a month.
The organization of it all is too much for volunteers to manage, which is why the page is outdated. You can update the page, if you like. I suppose that in any of the past few years there have been not fewer than 50 events internationally with about 10,000 participants. There is a lot of trouble tracking how these happen. Right now there is a discussion at meta:Program Capacity and Learning about how to track these things. You may comment there, if you like.
I worry about pages being outdated but this is only one problem of many. There is progress but no schedule or central coordination. Blue Rasberry (talk) 15:37, 6 February 2016 (UTC)

Squeaky wheel...

....squeak, squeak - Bluerasberry is there a way I can help make the Gabor B. Racz review a bit smoother and less time consuming for you? Please acknowledge my posts and that you intend to complete the review. Thanks in advance....Atsme📞📧 00:33, 10 February 2016 (UTC)

Given that there was "drama" on this article, perhaps we should ping an experienced GAN reviewer like @The Rambling Man: to take over the review. I'm not sure if someone can just assume the job, or if you have to withdraw the nomination and re-nominate it. Montanabw(talk) 00:53, 10 February 2016 (UTC)
