La Digue Article Assessment

edit

I noticed that you previously assessed the La Digue article as Stub for WikiProject Africa, and I would like to request your assistance in resolving a dispute I am currently involved in with User:Highschoolpuppettier relating to his recent attempts to have the article re-assessed through WikiProject Biography despite the fact that I explained to him that the article is not within the scope of WikiProject Biography, and that he needed to re-submit his request through a WikiProject affiliated with the article such as WikiProject Africa. Having said that, I agree with him that the article is in need of re-assessment, but should be done through WikiProject Africa, which I am not affiliated with. Any assistance you can provide in resolving this matter would be most appreciated. --TommyBoy (talk) 22:12, 28 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Raghubar Das

edit

The article Raghubar Das has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable, local politician. Not a particularly notable post.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. If Wikipedians want to delete this page, let them delete this because I know many Wikipedia editors really do not understand much about Indian matters. Anyway, thanks for informing me. --Bhadani (talk) 13:07, 9 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
It's not a matter of Wikipedians knowing or not knowing about India, it's a matter of the policy WP:Notability (people). It's incumbent on the supporters of the article to find proper evidence to establish notability; if they fail to do so by default the article will go up for deletion. The standards are even higher because this person is still living, and for accuracy and his own protection the standards of [[Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons] must be met to avoid deletion. If you have references from WP:Reliable sources indicating Raghubar Das meets the criteria, by all means please apply them. This is not a judgement on Das, nor on India, but simply a matter of the article not having enough sourcing to meet policy requirements. MatthewVanitas (talk) 16:25, 9 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
The article does have such a source - the source identifies him as a deputy chief minister of Jharkand, and this is stated in the article. A position comparable to Lt Governor of California (Jharkand's population is comparable to that of CA) would meet WP:POLITICIAN. Guettarda (talk) 16:35, 9 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
Certainly, and The Hindu is a solid WP:RS. The issue is it's only one source, and honestly given the BLP and WP:N threshold these days I would've suggested getting the article up to at least a full paragraph with 2-3 footnotes minimum before moving it from drafting to published. I'm certainly not disputing the notability of the office, just agreeing that one footnote is rather sparse, and the article is an extremely short stub at the moment. I wouldn't agree with "prod", but I do think it should be tagged "notability" until it has 2-3 references. Again, sorry if I (and maybe others) gave a mistaken impression that we thought his position/state isn't important, it's just the shortness/sparsity of the article, so again would suggest in the future building up such a stub slightly more before launching it to avoid such clashes. MatthewVanitas (talk) 17:12, 9 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
I do thank people who has enlightened me on these aspects of Wikipedia. If the consensus is to delete, let this "Wikipedia run by consensus" should delete the page. I do not care much, and I have encountered such approach earlier too. And, this is the precise reason that I have almost stopped contributing to Wikipedia. --Bhadani (talk) 17:19, 9 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
Getting lectured by the newcomers (ie, anyone who joined in the wave of 2006 or later) is par for the course ;) Guettarda (talk) 17:25, 9 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
Anyway, it is "all in a day's work". There may be several people around the globe who may think that The Hindu is a newspaper run by some sadhus. :-)) --Bhadani (talk) 17:38, 9 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thank you --Bhadani (talk) 17:49, 9 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
You're welcome! It's very kind of you. Guettarda (talk) 18:08, 9 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
But I thought everyone in the Mother Country was a sadhu (or at least was morally superior to us, with half our culture lost and our bloodlines intermingled...), or used to, until I discovered that they used electric lights and candles for Divali in India, and all my illusions were shattered. ;) Guettarda (talk) 18:08, 9 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

If we can stop the snide jabs at post-2006 editors (feel free to take a look at my contrib history and see if I'm a "newcomer" despite arriving in 2008), jabs at non-Indians, etc: there is no "consensus" to delete. One person prod'ed it, an editor removed it, I pointed out that it needs more sourcing. That's all there is to it. You can either avail yourselves of the plentiful number of sources on GoogleNews, or maybe I'll just do it myself in a few days. There's no point to drop down into self-pity over having not provided enough references for a WP:BLP article as per policy. MatthewVanitas (talk) 18:21, 9 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Your contributed article, Agama (mythology)

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Agama (mythology). First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - Āgama (Hinduism). Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Āgama (Hinduism) - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Redtigerxyz Talk 05:32, 26 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Auraiya district

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Auraiya district requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. This template is designed for articles that contain unsourced content. Neither Chinateenarla nor Ithavaram does so. Phil Bridger (talk) 07:36, 17 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

My understanding is that where insufficient references are there, {{refimprove}} may be used as per guideline here: [3]. --Bhadani (talk) 08:00, 17 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
That's exactly my point. These articles do have enough citations, because every single piece of content in them is verified, so it's obviously wrong to put a template on them that says "this article needs additional citations for verification". On a different but related issue, aren't automated edits supposed to be flagged as such? Phil Bridger (talk) 08:02, 17 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Now, I understand the point. However, if the content of an article is voluminous and not supported by sufficient citations, would it be in order to use {{refimprove}}? --Bhadani (talk) 08:05, 17 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
It's pretty simple - if the template text "this article needs additional citations for verification" is true then it is appropriate, and if it is not true then it is inappropriate. Phil Bridger (talk) 08:10, 17 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Min Saw O may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s. If you have, don't worry, just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

Notification of automated file description generation

edit

Your upload of File:A Buddhist Monastery Nepal.jpg or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.

This notification is placed on your talk page because a bot has identified you either as the uploader of the file, or as a contributor to its metadata. It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks! File source problem with File:Karaikkal Ammeiyar.JPG

edit

Thank you for uploading File:Karaikkal Ammeiyar.JPG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
