Linking to Categories

I made a small edit to your userpage and feel that as it's a little unusual to do this, you should be told why some complete stranger edited your userpage:

When you hard-link to a category (such as: [[Category:Albums]] your page gets included into that category. You need to soft-link to it like this: [[:Category:Albums]]. The colon keeps your page from being auto-included into the category.

Just a small thing. Happy editing.--Fisherjs 18:59, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for that, Fisherjs, was a bit confused about that! Belovedfreak 19:01, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

Blanking

Please do not replace Wikipedia pages with blank content, as you did to Deadly. Blank pages are harmful to Wikipedia because they have a tendency to confuse readers. If it is a duplicate article, please redirect it to an appropriate existing page. If the page has been vandalised, please revert it to the last legitimate version. If you feel that the content of a page is inappropriate, please edit the page and replace it with appropriate content. If you believe there is no hope for the page, please see the deletion policy for how to proceed. Thanks for contributing to Wikipedia! --Yamla 19:43, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

I had asked on the article talkpage if someone could add some cover art and I just noticed that you did so I wanted to thank you. So, thank you. It looks much better to me. -FateSmiled&DestinyLaughed 00:17, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

Edit to Blackpool

Certainly. The Northern Star Hotel here is gay only. All hotels on this page are gay-run, and many are gay only - follow the links. Thanks for showing concern - this is perhaps an appropriate place for a cited source in the article - I will add one now. Thanks again. Ck lostsword|queta!|Suggestions? 17:43, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

Actually, I have rephrased the article, using 'some' instead of 'many'. Feel free to change - after all, it is a wiki! Ck lostsword|queta!|Suggestions? 17:48, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

Lois Smith

Hi! The only info in the infobox was her birth date (which is in the text of the article) and age (which will change for as long as she lives, necessitating annual editing). It simply gave the article a cluttered look, so I removed it.

Actually, I'm opposed to the use of infoboxes in general. If Wikipedia truly is to be considered an encyclopedia, then the articles should contain all the necessary data. An infox reminds me of USA Today, with its charts and graphics designed for people too busy to read the complete articles. If a Wiki article includes all the pertinent details, why include an infobox? It seems redundant and not in keeping with the concept of an encyclopedia. I'm very sorry they weren't nipped in the bud when first introduced. But that's just my opinion . . . SFTVLGUY2 17:05, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

IMDb template

Hi -

I notice you've been using the {{imdb}} template on some articles lately. Some of the links you've tried to create won't work; the ID number should just be the number, don't include the "nm": {{imbd|0816669}}. You also don't have to include the name unless you want it to appear differently in the link than it does for the title of the article; for instance: {{imdb|name=José Molina|0596711}} is useful, as the article title is José Molina (writer).

You might also want to review Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion (pay particular attention to criterion #7 under "Articles") and Wikipedia:Notability before you create any more "stub" articles for actors. Unless you specifically assert the importance of the subject in the article, the article could be deleted quickly by any administrator.

Thanks, and good luck.Chidom talk  06:06, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

You're in Film Project talk

Hi, just thought I'd notify you that the issue of Criterion Collection Boxes and your username in connection with them are in WP Films Talk. I think it's better to clear out the issue and post some clear instructions on the main progect page. Your opinion would help. Hoverfish Talk 20:04, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

Editors that don't provide an edit summary tend to look like vandals

I have noticed you commonly don't enter an edit summary. This causes me problems. When I patrol for vandalism, I use the summary to make a preliminary decision on whether or not the post is a vandal edit or not. If the summary is present (or at least a section header, the part inside the /* */), I commonly decide the edit is legit and move on.

However, if no edit summary is available, I typically resort to loading the diff for the edit. This takes time. For that reason, if your edits are all valid, I ask that you provide edit summaries. For more on how to enter an edit summary, please read Help:Edit summary.

Incidentally, it is not just me that appreciate having edit summaries. When you omit your summary, you may be telling various bots that you are vandalizing pages. For this reason, please consider providing that summary. It is very important.

The edit summary appears in black italics in the following places: * Use the enhanced watchlist to see all recent changes in the watched pages, not just the last change in each page.

WP:AIV

Thank you for your recent posting of an anonymous editor to Administrators intervention against vandalism. In the future though, when reporting IP addressed to WP:AIV, please make sure that they have had a final warning in the recent past. Due to the nature of IP addresses, spans of time between edits may indicate different users. Being it is possible that the currently vandalizing user did not get a true final warning they are often not be blocked. To remedy this, please make an effort to ensure that all vandals reported to WP:AIV have an appropriate, and recent, final warning. The most common final warnings are {{test4}} or {{bv}}. If you have any questions regarding this, please do not hesitate to ask me on my user talk page. Thanks again!-- Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 20:51, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

As a genearl rule, if there is more than a 12 hour gap between there last final wrnings and the most recent edit, i will very often not block. IP addresses can change frequently and there is no assurance that it is the same person. In short, make sure they vandals have had at least 1 final warning in the current calendar day before reporting them to WP:AIV. Hope this helps, if you have any other questions, feel free to ask me on my user talk page. -- Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 20:57, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
No problem. it generally is not alot harder but a vandal is more likley to slip through the cracks. When the WP:AIV gets back logged i go through them fast and if they havent been warned, they most often get thrown out! Thanks agian for your civil manner of handeling the situation. Here is a shiny reward. -- Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 21:00, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
  The Resilient Barnstar
I, Chrislk02, award you this resillient barnstar for your cool and calm manner and your ability to discuss issues! Keep up the great vandal fighting and the reports to WP:AIV. They are much appreciated. -- Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 21:00, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
No problem! you too. -- Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 21:04, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

Clarification

I just read your post at WP:AIV talk. Named editors and anon editors are very different. Named editors we know they are the same person. In the case you provided that named editor could have been report for a number of reasons and a final warning may not have been required (especially because of there username). With anon users, it should be required (although some administrators choose to enforce blocks without them). If you have any further questions I would be glad to answer them for you! Hope this helps. Thanks again, -- Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 18:41, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

Toolbox item

Hi, I just wanted to let you know that in you toolset you have {{filmimage}} as {filmimage}}, so it doesn't display. :) Hoverfish Talk 19:14, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

Oh, sorry, I seem to be the dumb one here by assuming you work like me (I copy my templates from a text page "toolset"). If it was only in Below (film), which I corrected, forgive my remark. Hoverfish Talk 19:26, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

Mika (singer)

Hi there! Do you mind if I ask why you changed the Cats on Mika (singer)? ConDemTalk 18:34, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

That's cool, I was just wondering about the deletion of the "Mika"s. Sounds good though. ConDemTalk 18:41, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

Film-editor-stub category

User:Luigi Bob has recently been creating articles on some notable film editors and has brought it to my attention that a stub category doesn't exist for film editors. As film editors are a part of film and help to rid of red links in films please lend your support or opposition at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals. There are hundreds not stub categoirzed as editors and there are many many missing from wikipedia and I beleive they are an important part of the film making process. Category:Lesbian novels

What do you think of the name "lesbian-themed novels"? — Emiellaiendiay 18:13, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

Well, I looked at the subcategories of Category:Novels, and it none seem to fit, so I'd say Category:Novels is just fine. — Emiellaiendiay 23:49, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
