Managing a conflict of interest edit

Hello, Arifjwadder. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies. Note that Wikipedia's terms of use require disclosure of your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. --Animalparty-- (talk) 18:01, 4 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

He is quite entitled to nominate them for deletion if he thinks there is a good reason. Other editors, such as yourself, can explain why at the page linked from each article as to how they comply with Wikipedia policy. You should remember not to make disparaging remarks about other editors. That sort of thing will lead to your blocking. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 19:31, 21 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Non-Resident Students' Centre edit

The article Non-Resident Students' Centre has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

no evidence of significant coverage in reliably third party sources, merely the club's newsletters and self published homages

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

You bear the responsiblity edit

When you claim that there are reliably published sources that cover a subject in depth, it is your responsibility to provide those sources - not tell someone else "You go find them". -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 20:16, 12 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Our requirements are that reliably sourced, third parties have covered the subject in depth and not just passing mention. Of the reliable sources, there is one that is just a headline [1], one the is a regurgitated press release calling for submissions that does not cover the actual event because it was from before the event occurred [2], one that mentions in passing that a particular film had screened at the event [3]. None of that establishes notability. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 20:22, 12 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Baharul Islam edit

Thank you for your edit to List of former justices of the Supreme Court of India adding Baharul Islam. Unfortunately, your edit did not use the correct senority number for Baharul Islam, which was #48, instead you created your own number (150). You did not actually state an archival copy of the url in your citation, you just repeated the base url. Web pages are archived at places such as WebCite or Internet Archive. You might want to read those two articles to better understand the archiving process. You also might want to look at the essay WP:Link rot. Wiki tables can be difficult to understand. Fortunately, Help:Table provides additional information about formatting tables. Before adding to a table be sure you know how each entry is formatted. You can check your work using the "Preview" button, to see if you got it right. In this case your edit left out the "|-" that separates individual records so that Baharul Islam was included at the end of #149 instead of as a separate entry. I have fixed these problems for List of former justices of the Supreme Court of India. --Bejnar (talk) 07:10, 22 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

What don't you understand? edit

What is so hard for you to understand about the fact that Wikipedia has articles about subjects that third parties have written about and that it is not a free advertising platform to be a substitute website for the University??? -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 12:23, 22 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

There are third party articles written about this article. The only thing is that one needs some time to search such article on internet. Moreover, you will find internet material hard to get for a institute which is very old. In India everything has not been digitized, so we also must take into consideration of that also. Also a central university does not need any promotional stuff from Wikipedia. In the instant case I am pretty much sure that it is a very old centre and very important part of the university. Third party articles in the form of hard copy are abundant about this centre.Arifjwadder (talk) 12:30, 22 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
You have not presented a single third party reliable source discussing the NRI center in depth. and that has been a pattern about all of the AU articles that you have been editing. We do not make exceptions because reliable sources have not been digitized. We do not care that you think " it is a very old centre and very important part of the university." we care that you are able to document that third parties care. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 12:39, 22 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
There were citation (s) if I recall at the first hand before you edited in the month of June, 2015 if I am not wrong. Please see the version dated May, 2015. Arifjwadder (talk) 17:25, 22 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
It is a good idea to get your reliable sources first, and then make your edits citing those sources, rather than making edits and hoping that you can find sources later. Citing to hard-copy, paper-based, versions of reliable sources is fine, so long as they are properly identified so that others can find them also (see WP:Citing sources), and so long as the sources clearly support the edit. It is important that such hard-copy, paper-based, sources be published, so that they have been through the editorial fact-checking process and so that copies are located in more than one place. See also WP:Identifying reliable sources. So availablity in hard copy only is not an excuse for failing to provide citations to independent reliable sources. --Bejnar (talk) 17:04, 22 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
There were citations of several books till May, 2015, but those has been deleted. Arifjwadder (talk) 17:28, 22 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
as far as I can tell, the "sources" in the old version were published by the University [4] - not third parties. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 18:03, 22 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
not at all. University does not publish anything in Wikipedia. I clearly recall that there were many citations of books and journals before you redirected it. Arifjwadder (talk) 18:08, 22 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
I did not say the University was publishing anything on Wikipedia ( there are swarms of SPAs doing that). What I did say is that the sources in the version you claim has citations were published by those affiliated with the school and thus not third party notice which is the required standard for a stand alone article. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 21:14, 22 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
You are again mistaken. The publications which I can see is totally independent from the University. Google for Ibn Sina Academy which published some books, has no connection with the university.Arifjwadder (talk) 21:16, 22 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
You mean this Ibn Sina Academy of Medieval Medicine and Sciences, the organization that Mohammad Hamid Ansari, former vice-chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, formally inaugurated it on April 21, 2001? hmmm . -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 21:42, 22 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
yes, boss. The organisation is a reputed one (Govt recognized) and also the founder whose book was cited there. Arifjwadder (talk) 21:46, 22 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
The organization founded by the ex-chancellor of the the university which you state has no connections to the publisher..... -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 21:48, 22 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
It was only inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor of the university. He was non other than the present Vice President of India. And if you go through the history of the academy you will find it 50 years old which itself makes it a notable academy. However, the academy has no connections with the university. September 2015 edit

Your recent editing history at Aligarh Muslim University shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you get reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.   Please do not attack other editors, as you did at User_talk:TheRedPenOfDoom#Insane_Fellow. Comment on content, not on contributors. Personal attacks damage the community and deter users. Please stay cool and keep this in mind while editing. Thank you. Thomas.W talk 20:58, 22 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

I am fed up with this biased editor (User_talk:TheRedPenOfDoom). He thinks himself as the master. He behaves as he knows everything and only his view is supreme. He always disrupts editing.Arifjwadder (talk) 21:01, 22 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, not a university bulletin board, as you seem to believe. What TRPoD does is making sure that it stays an encyclopaedia. Thomas.W talk 21:17, 22 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
Now User_talk:TheRedPenOfDoom is saying that University of Oxford is poorly organised. Can you justify his comments User_talk:TheRedPenOfDoom#Aligarh_Muslim_University.Arifjwadder (talk) 21:22, 22 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Your recreation of Social Science Cyber Library edit

Hello. I have reverted your edit per WP:IINFO since Wikipedia isn't an indiscriminate collection of information. Having references isn't enough, the material must also by encyclopaedic, and the Cyber Library is definitely neither notable enough nor encyclopaedic enough to have a stand-alone article. It is, however, notable enough to merit a short mention in Aligarh Muslim University, and a redirect. Thank you. Thomas.W talk 17:36, 1 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

October 2015 edit

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for sock puppetry. Note that multiple accounts are allowed, but using them for illegitimate reasons is not, and that any contributions made while evading blocks or bans may be reverted or deleted. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may appeal this block by first reading the guide to appealing blocks, then adding the following text below this notice: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  Bbb23 (talk) 13:58, 6 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Arifjwadder (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

I have been blocked without any notice and without citing proper reason. I have been accused of sock, but I owe no allegiance to any other accounts along with whom I have been blocked. It is a coincidence that they too have edited the same articles which I did. My contributions to the Wikipedia must be taken into consideration and the articles must be checked out again thoroughly. I edited page with solid citation which has never been questioned. No one could find any page where I edited which does not exists in the reality. There are two editors who have biased opinion against a particular university and when I started editing the organisation they always vandalized. That was the time when the other editors helped in improving the articles which does not mean that other accounts are mine. I don not need separate accounts to prove my point at all. Many of the article which had been tagged to be delete by the biased editor has been restored by experienced editors. Editing in the same page and supporting a genuine cause must not be held as sock as the other accounts are not mine. They helped in improving articles. Even one will find they improved article in the question and never vandalized anything. Arifjwadder (talk) 10:02, 8 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

A notice was given right above this request, and there is a notice displayed to you when you edit. Given the findings at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Arifjwadder, you will need to provide an explanation less equivalent to a shrug. I don't care about your content dispute. Kuru (talk) 11:43, 8 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

The current indef block notice was for very short duration. I even did not realize that any such notice was there. I did not vandalize any page and the page where I am accused of sock have been improved by me. It is a coincidence that other users too helped improve the article. The dispute is related only to Aligarh Muslim University. I have never done damage or disruption to Wikipedia. Arifjwadder (talk) 11:52, 8 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
Indefinite means "without duration". This block will not expire; you will need to post an unblock request which addresses the problem fully and convinces someone that it will not recur. I'm afraid that the technical evidence means you'll need to come up with something other than a simple denial. Kuru (talk) 12:09, 8 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
I meant by my above comment was that the investigation for sock was done within 10 hours and closed without giving me a fair time to comment. How will I prove that those accounts were not mine??? Arifjwadder (talk) 13:42, 8 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
You may wish to withdraw this request and read Wikipedia:Guide to appealing blocks before making another. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 10:09, 8 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
