Oh, those links.  Thorpe talk 19:10, 21 August 2005 (UTC)

Grabbed them from you :) Easier than typing it all out, and they are all very helpful, so thank you :) Ariel 19:18, August 21, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks from Newbie

Hey ArielGold. Just wanted to drop by and say thanks for putting that welcome with all the useful tips in my talk page. Really nice to have such a supportive group around!

Urban Trash.

Hi. I am trying to remove the "advertisement" manner in which the Urban Trash has been tagged as. I am not intending to vandalise, but to rather streamline the content so that it is objective with relevant notes and citations. If you read my edits, you should notice that I am not being counter-productive nor criminal - I am only removing information I deem to be "advertising" in nature. I have read the various Wikipedia pages on the suggested tagged reasons too.

Please advise.

Crowlike 11:15, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi Crowlike, my suggestion would be to simply reword it, when you remove large amounts of text, it flags the article as possibly being vandalized. The article in question has already been tagged as being biased, so the admins are aware that it has problems. Also I'd strongly suggest that you use a rationale for your edits in the small box marked "Edit summary" beneath any edit you do. Typing something like "helping clean up article" or "removing advertisements" will greatly help the monitors realize you're trying to help.
Also, I'll post some helpful links on your talk page. And thanks for explaining! ArielGold 11:21, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

Okay great, thanks. I am busy re-wording the content; do you perhaps have what I wrote before it was reverted? Or do I need to it all again?

Crowlike 11:40, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

Just click on the "History" tab at the top, it will show all edits. Using the compare circles, you can compare any versions you like :) ArielGold 11:41, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks again. I've edited and cleaned up the article a fair amount. I don't think it looks like an advertisement, and therefore would like to request that said tag removed, if possible. Can you concur?

Crowlike 12:47, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

Great work, Crowlike. Thank you for taking the time to help clean up the article. As for getting that tag removed, there are a few things you can do. First, you can post your explanations and summary of changes on the page's "Discussion" page (which I see you've done a bit), also you can click on the link in the advertisement warning box that says "Talk" and discuss what you did there, as well. :) ArielGold 12:51, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

Quick Question - Answer

Welcome back ArielGold after your long wikibreak I saw on your contributions-page. Of course you are allowed to ask me any question you have, and I will try to answer if I can (I'm only here for 2 months). I'm looking forward to co-operate with you. :) Cheers --Oxymoron83 21:46, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

*Giggle*. You're the second one to welcome me back, but I never realized I was gone for so long, heh. I was around, nearly every day, I guess I was just not doing any editing :)
Okay, here is my issue. Someone created a duplicate article, and from digging in their history, and looking at the edits they have made to "their new" article, it seems like they just want a place to put their opinions and un-sourced comments, without them being reverted. Here are the two articles:
Original Article -Andre the Giant
New article with his last name.
His contributions/edits
The second (new) article, this person created, then edited a couple times with some comments that didn't make it onto the established article, but... I guess I don't see the point. I dug all over the place looking for policies on double-articles, same names, etc, even dug into redirecting policies, and none of them really covered this issue, so I'm unsure how to handle it. Should a speedy delete tag be applied to the second (new) article, should it be redirected to the main one? It just seems pretty silly to have two pages with (nearly) identical information.
Anyway, I do appreciate your helping answer my question, I figure if I bump into you as much as I do, you must know about policies, or at least know where I should go to ask the question, right? :D ArielGold 21:55, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

P.S. What AV tool do you use? Besides TW I mean. I switched over to IRC with TW, from Lupin's and like it a lot better, but you are way faster than I am a lot of the times, so I'm wondering how? lol. ArielGold 21:58, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

According to the GNU Free Documentation License we use in wikipedia, Cashis made a straight copyright violation, because he didn't mention the contributors of the old article at the new article he created. So the new article must be deleted. Feel free to cds. Creating a redirect after the page had been deleted makes sense. --Oxymoron83 22:19, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
P.S. I use WP:VF to monitor the recent changes. --Oxymoron83 22:19, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
Has been deleted now. --Oxymoron83 22:37, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
csd g8 for the talk page and [1] for the other issue. And DerHexer knows the GFDL very well so no fear with the explanation there. --Oxymoron83 22:47, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
You didn't bother me :) I'm glad I could help you. See you soon. Cheers --Oxymoron83 23:12, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
If you choose 'only show anonymous edits' (or something similar, as I've set the German language), there are fewer edits. But I often need 2 or 3 clicks to hit the wanted line, that's normal and so you can find hidden vandalism. The blacklist and the whitelist are for users/pages you want/don't want to be shown in the RCs. These settings apply for you alone, not for anyone other. And I recommend to enable the options in the 'Automatic changes' tab. --Oxymoron83 23:36, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
I've the first version from the list, but also the other should work. Have you clicked the 'save' button in the lower right corner? Maybe after that try a restart. --Oxymoron83 23:47, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
Rather an epileptic seizure than a stroke :P I'm sorry that it doesn't work for you. You can try another layout (from the 'localization' submenu) or install a newer version of java. Maybe that will help. --Oxymoron83 00:11, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
Another possibility is fr:Utilisateur:EDUCA33E/LiveRC/Documentation if you wan't to try it, but in my opinion at the moment a little bit too circumstantially for en.wikipedia (due to the masses of edits made). And you can also try Wikipedia:IRCMonitor (you first have to register to WP:AWB), this is as fast as VF+TW.--Oxymoron83 00:25, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, I did go through all the listed VP Admins, and it appears that only a few of them are really that active, (and none but you and Betacommand had been active in the last couple hours,) and I was concerned it was an urgent matter. In any event, I'm very grateful and relieved! ArielGold 06:37, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
Just so there's no confusion, I'm just a normal VP user, just like yourself. (I just used "just" three times in one sentence!) So, I think you should expect some explanatory response tomorrow from an admin, which should give you a more permanent, total peace of mind. But, again, I don't think you caused any nuclear reaction, and, even if you had, we all do sometimes.  :) Night! Take care,   j    talk   06:49, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

Logo question

Hi, I have problem with the logo Image:SV Dynamo.png. I had uploaded this and had given then the data the source and description concerning this. Then I got a reminder, where in it it stood that I should to do that things.

I'm from Dresden.Körner, Kay 10:39, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi Kay, it looks like the image was tagged by a bot, probably it tags images based on a set of specified "keywords". It has already been accepted on Germany's Wikipedia, so I wouldn't worry a whole lot, but I think you might want to go to that page, Wikipedia:Media copyright questions and just make a quick post asking someone to remove the tag, and warning from your page. :) Hope that helps! Hello, I left a note on your talk page regarding the page. Let me go back to it and take another look. Here's what I'll suggest. That section you'd like changed, I will remove it and paste it into the page's talk page, and explain why it was removed, and if the section is un-cited (has no references) there is a good chance that it will not be put on the main page. Does that sound fair to you? I'll also copy this note to your talk page so you are sure to see it. I fully understand your concerns, believe me. ArielGold 09:54, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

hello i did ask you to remove the excerpt but someone else did as well. i am marks daughter and am not condoning or denying any behavior. i am just looking out for my career and the careers/personal lives of members of my family (a number of us are in and/or moving towards being in the public eye). this article, true or not, can have a negative effect on those that have nothing to do with the situation or his actions. is there a reason you are so determined to post this? -—Preceding unsigned comment added by Bunspebble (talkcontribs)

Someone several months ago had already removed it, placed a discussion on the talk page, and evidently in the meantime, it was reverted back. I DID remove the information, and I have people watching the page to be sure it is not put back on the article unless it can be verified. (Apologies, but if it is verified by sources, there is nothing that can be done about it) I am determined NOT to post it, please re-read the posts and the discussion on the talk page. I'm on your side, and want that information kept OFF of the article! :) ArielGold 18:45, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

Ghosh

Regarding the ghos article, the users are vandalising the article they have put poorly spelled and unintelligale babble which is not only gramatically but factually incorrect. Have you actually read what is their 78.146.62.66 17:06, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

It was not the content I was editing. There are already tags on the article that ask for expert assistance and verification of material. I simply changed the headers and formatted them, and added the reference tags. (I am by no means an expert on Indian culture, nor did I claim to be.) So as far as the validity of the information, I'm sorry to say I would have no idea of knowing if it was valid or not. As for spelling and grammar... no, I did not read the article, I was formatting it, not proof-reading it. I'd suggest asking someone who has a familiarity with Indian culture to look it over if you're concerned :) ArielGold 17:18, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

Re Ghosh article

Hi I now understand your position so sorry for accusing you for not doing enough. Please could you tell me how i could tag the article for porr spelling and lack of sources

shivaji ghosh 78.146.181.16 18:31, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

I can go back and check, but I believe it is already tagged for cleanup (poor spelling/grammar/punctuation/capitalization/format) and I know it is tagged as needing an expert (which I assume would be someone familiar with both Indian culture, and religions). I'll go pop a references tag on it if I forgot to do so! Thank you for the apology! ArielGold 18:36, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
Okay just checked, yeah I did place the reference tag. I'll add a reliability tag since you obviously know much more about the subject than I do, if you say some of the items are incorrect or invalid, I will take your word for it. And yes, I agree that articles like this should have references, and probably be re-written by an expert in a neutral voice, per WP:NPOV.ArielGold 18:43, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

I fully understand your position. However, there appear to be others out there on a crusade, and the information is continuing to be put back in as the previous version, ignoring Elonka's decision. Thank you for understanding, see my comment on your talk page for further information. :) ArielGold 07:04, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

Grammar Explorer

Hello arielgold
I have responded to your request about Grammar Explorer. Please note that this is an educational project. The page was not yet completed (a sample text was temporarily used) but the aim of the wiki page was to give all the information about the background to the project and its objectives within the European Union's educational programme for language learning. The page also intended to describe the project and its unique methodological and pedagogical breakthroughs. I would appreciate it if you removed the tag.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Stellandt (talkcontribs)

Hi Stellandt, thanks for the explanation. However, due to the nature of the material, and the format in which it was presented, along with the wording, the article is tagged for deletion, and may have already been deleted. Here is what I would suggest to you: I'll drop some helpful links on your talk page, that will assist you in how to write an article so it will not be deleted, and I'd suggest you create a "preliminary" page on your space, such as User:Stellandt/Sandbox and put your article together there prior to actually publishing it. Use the links I'll give you to review the policies on advertising, neutral point of view, and formatting and style. Thanks! ArielGold 14:57, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

Blanking warnings from talk page

Hi, after I saw you were asking someone to not blank warnings from his talk page, I just thought I would let you know it is perfectly within the guidelines to do so. A user may blank warnings, discussion, block notices etc. No policy forbids this, many people do not realise this, because it seems strange. For example this edit, even though it may annoy some users, is perfectly within the guidelines. You can see some users, blank their talk page whenever someone posts a message asking them not to do something. For example Special:Contributions/Ctjf83 blanks his talk page as soon as someone leaves a message and refuses to discuss any of his mistakes. It may be annoying but is perfectly within the rules, most previously blocked users have removed their block notices. Jackaranga 17:19, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

That is interesting, as I was specifically told by multiple admins that users who are vandalizing articles (most notably IP users) are not supposed to blank their own warnings, since it makes it seem as if they've received no warnings to an admin who is blocking them. (Yes, there's the history, but this is what I was told.) Since I'm definitely not an expert on the intricate rules and policies, I tended to believe the administrators who use that warning daily, and told me to revert someone who was blanking warnings from their page. ArielGold 17:37, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
The exact phrases are :
  • "Policy does not prohibit users from removing comments from their own talk pages, though archiving is preferred."

and

  • "On your own user talk page, you may remove comments from others, although archiving is generally preferred and removing comments without any reason is generally regarded uncivil."

It can be quite annoying sometimes, because it means you have to keep checking back in the history, before leaving a warning. Maybe I will just start reverting like you, I don't see a policy which says I can't revert a talk page to how it used to be either. Jackaranga 17:56, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

By the way congrats on reverting the vandalism this past few days, you have like almost as many edits in a week as me in a year oO Jackaranga 17:59, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
I understand those phrases, and prior to reverting a user's talk page, I did go to two admins and ask their policy on it prior to my ever doing it the first time. I do not simply act without considering policy first, and I always take a lot of time to read over any questionable edits, and mostly leave anything with a question to another editor to take care of, focusing on the obvious, intentional vandalism that has no possible doubt. ;) ArielGold 18:08, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
I just double-checked with yet another admin, and it is indeed common sense, and common practice for admins and RC/Vandal patrol members, that if a user is repeatedly vandalizing articles, has received many warnings, and is looking down the barrel of a block, when they erase their talk pages, that is considered vandalism in and of itself. Archiving posts after several days is one thing, but the deliberate blanking of warnings to avoid an imminent block is not something that users should be doing. I personally think it is perfectly appropriate to revert them for users who are intentionally trying to evade blocks by blanking warnings, but if you have been told otherwise, perhaps we should ask on an admin board somewhere? Thanks for your input! ArielGold 18:08, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
Edit: Misza beat me to it, lol. Thanks Misz! ArielGold 18:08, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
It is a long-standing practice that vandals must be sufficiently warned before blocking. Now tell me please, how in the world is one supposed to know what warning level has a potential vandal reached (that is, should one start with {{test1}} or go straight to WP:AIV?) if they continually remove the warnings? There might not be a clear policy on this, but there used to exist a user warning template designed specifically to warn about (d'oh!) removal of warnings. It's not a matter of policy - it's an issue of courtesy and transparency for others. Archiving/removing after some time (few days, perhaps) is fine; removing them immediately is not. (Note that the policy you quote says about messages, not warnings - treat these like information provided for others too.) Миша13 18:03, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

Question

I note that an edit I made to [2] has undergone a reversion to its previous state. I maintain that "hoick" is the word to use in the context of enough impetus being given to an object to cause it to travel a considerable distance, whereas "hoist" is descriptive of pulleys and ropes, and of a slow and steady process.

Now, whether the word "hoick" should replace the word "hoist" or not, where does the cycle of reversion and re-reversion stop?

Is this the correct place to air my opinions?

cheers Kangaroux 14:44, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Dear Kangaroux, thanks for the question. I do recall running into this while monitoring recent changes, but I don't think I ever reverted changes. Offhand (without looking,) I'd guess that I did not, because I tended to agree the term "hoick" was valid in that particular case. As for the basic policy, that would fall under 3RR (Talk page for that rule is here) and the edit war policy. Additionally, I found this report on a preliminary (quickie) search of common incidents. I think my suggestion to you would be to discuss it on the 3RR board's talk page, but also if you were to politely post messages on the talk pages of those who continue to revert it (similar to your explanation to me in your question,) it may help. Sometimes people may not understand the word, and think your intention was to type another word. (I'd guess this is the case, since the term "hoick" is certainly not that common in every day language.)
You may wish to use the link to the dictionary entry to help clarify. Such as typing the following (exactly):
[http://www.webster.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?book=Dictionary&va=hoick Webster's definition of the word Hoick].
That would end up looking like this: Webster's definition of the word Hoick.
I hope that is of some help to you, if you find that the page is still being reverted, you could ask on the 3RR board what additional action would be appropriate, or where to go from that point on. Feel free to ask for help there, this is a wonderful and open community, and there are people far more experienced with the intricacies of policy than I on that page. Cheers! (Of course, I was reading, not editing much, so I can understand it) but I still appreciate it very much. :) ArielGold 13:25, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
2 years! You have been registered here much longer than I have. I did the same thing as you, I used wikipedia and read it alot before ever editing it. It usually takes a while to get into the underworkings of the project. I hope you have been satisifed with your wiki experience so far and if there is anything I can do to help/enhance it please let me know. About the sig I am not sure if forgetting it is better than me who puts 4 tildes accidently at the end of emails and facebook messages to friends. They are all pretty confused by it because of course outside of wiki, it is not translated a username and datestamp. Lol. -- Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 13:32, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

LOL Now that's funny. I actually started reading Wikipedia longer than 2 years ago, I just had never felt the need to change anything, and then I guess one day I ran across some spelling/grammatical error I couldn't handle seeing so I changed it, lol. And I have been on a couple different ISPs, so probably have edited under different IPs (that I don't remember) prior to the current ISP I have. Although today, man, either Wiki is getting the flu, or my ISP is, because it is taking 30+ seconds to load pages, lol. As for the underpinnings, yes, honestly I was shocked to see just how many policies, committees, and other things were keeping Wikipedia running smoothly, and I've been wading through the pages daily learning as much as I can. I've got a bookmarks page that keeps all the links I may need to reference, (I use my watch page for RC/Vand patrol) and it grows longer each day! lol. ArielGold 13:48, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

30+ seconds! wow, that is insane I dont think I could do it )I would get frustrated and give up). Mine is running slow today too. Probably 5 to 10 seconds of delay when loading a page and I am on a fast internet connection. Good locuk sorting through the underworkings. Some areas that would probably be good to get involved in are WP:AFD and WP:RFA. I am sure you are well aware of WP:AIV and may be less aware of WP:UAA. Hope this helps! Again, please do not hesitate to ask any questions at all! -- Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 14:04, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

New Script

Ariel, I have added the new script to your monobook.js. You should have 3 new buttons in the upper right. If you do not, refresh your cache. Your options will show up at User:ArielGold/StatusPage. When you are satisfied that it works, add {{User:ArielGold/StatusPage}} to the top of your userpage and it should update when you click the buttons. If you need any other help, let me know! -- Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 16:22, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

I see you have it working! Congrats. -- Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 16:25, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
Wording for the options is changed at User:ArielGold/StatusDiv. (Note the extra options are not functional because I borrowed code here). -- Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 16:35, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
Sorry about that. On the page User:ArielGold/StatusDiv, if you look at previous verions, there were extra extraneous options. I removed them for you. I apologize if this caused any confusion. Oh, and No I dont hate your sig! I dont hate anybodys sigs, i am just kind of old fashioned at times. -- Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 16:39, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

Wildlife of Africa

HI Ariel. Thanks for switching the tags -for some reason I put in an expand tag rather than a need expert tag. I hope all of those articles will become like Wildlife of Karnataka but it will take time time. You;d expect wikipedia do have had full written articles up to B-class stabdard long time ago. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you?" Contribs 11:21, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

It was no problem, I replied fully on your talk page. ArielGold 11:29, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Yes I will gradually try to write them into full encyclopedic articles covering fauna, avifauna, flora and conservation and national parks relative to that country wih images of the parks and native wildlife etc. Their potential is huge. I find it quite funny that an article on state wildlife could be so well developed when a country like Wildlife of Brazil (just imagine how many species) doesn't exist yet ( Latin America will be next -but I guess this is uneveness of wikipedia which will attempt to be addressed in time. Its a shame that the Indian wildife group aren't willing to help with Africa and elsewhere!! Give it time and I know they will be very useful articles to the project which I was very surprised didn't exist already. All the best ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you?" Contribs 11:31, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks much appreciated. Its a daunting task!! but it will be gradual - as I also do most of my work on wikipedia on Films/Actors and Cambodia and Tibet. I started to write the article like Wildlife of Pakistan in the Asian series I set up but got sidetracked. It is only a matter of time before they are developed. Either way the lists are quite informative temporaily until we have the written encyclopedic articles. Thanks a lot mate! Nice talkin' to you ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you?" Wow have you seen the Nepenthes rajah article!!. Hopefully every article will be like this eventually. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you?" Contribs 11:44, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Its a huge article isn't it. Ah I wouldn't know about the table of contents. I've removed it in my preferences and my user preference is set on Cologne Blue. You should try it if you haven't already - it looks like a different site to the standard wiki setting -I got tired of this!!. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you?" Contribs 11:58, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

So quick! Give me just a few minutes, I'm working on my first RfA vote, lol. (And you know how long-winded I am!) ArielGold 14:32, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
Ok. It does not need to be a drawn complicated process. It is often a good idea to give more information if you are one of the first voters as it often sets the pace for the rest of the RFA. IF you are reitterating what everybody else said, it is often ok to state who you agree with and maybye give some supporting evidence as to why. Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 14:37, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Wisdon on images

Wow, great questions. The sad fact is there are many experience wikipedians who do not know the answers either. (I sometimes belive nobody really knows the answer but we all pretend to be). Here is the quick and dirty fo fair use. Fair Use iamges are used when there is no possibility of obtaining a free equivalent. This is one way to spot fair use violations quickly. A fair use image of a living person does not qualify for fair use because it is possible to obtain a free image. IF an image is used as fair use, it is the uploaders job to provide a source (so it can be reviewed for compliance), and a fair use rationale. Without either of these, it is likley the image failes WP:FUC and will be deleted. The other major thing is a.) fair use imgaes in userspace which is not allowed because fair use images are used on the premise that it adds substantially to an educational article, not decorating your "home page". b.) Fair use images cannot be orphaned (unused). WIkipedia is not a repository of copyrighted information. If somebody uploads a fair use image and it is not put in an article, a bot called OrphanBot (or some other bots) will tag it and alert the user. This is the quick and dirty. Feel free to read WP:FUC. I also have no problem being an adoptee and mentoring you in the wiki way. Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 15:09, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Rock and Roll Jesus page

hey,

I attempted to clean-up the Rock and Roll Jesus (new kid rock album) page. Any chance you could take a look at it and see if it's OK? You might have to look in the history to see my revision as the user rovinggangster keeps re-writing the whole thing.

here's my revision: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Rock_And_Roll_Jesus&oldid=148282233 thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.100.183.110 (talkcontribs)

Hello, and thank you for respecting the copyright notices on the talk page. I did take a look at it, and aside from it needing more information, it really should conform to the Manual of style. For example, it is standard to have the first section a short summary of what is in the article, and what it is about. Then a table of contents that contains sections, such as (and not necessarily applicable to that article you're working on, especially since it is regarding a future release) history, controversy, statistics, etc. At the bottom, a section for external links (keeping within guidelines/policies here) and at the end, a references section, where sources are cited. Let me drop off some helpful links on your talk page, that will really give you a base of reference for all areas of Wikipedia.
As for the article itself, I'll place a few tags requesting more info, and cleanup, and I'll do a quick spellcheck, and I'll add the links to the band's Wiki article. However, I should warn you in advance, that there is a chance the article would get moved into the band's main article, here is the discography simply because as you can see there, each album is not given its own article page. My personal thoughts (and in no way is that "official",) is that you should post the article link ([[Rock_And_Roll_Jesus]]) to the Kid Rock talk page, and ask on that page what the policy on having separate pages for albums is. I'll still go over and copyedit it though, so I'll be changing it a few times over the course of the next couple minutes. Thanks! ArielGold 17:07, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for your comments. are you sure you're looking at the correct revision? The article does have a short first section followed by a table and then other sections. I placed my references at the bottom. Here: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Rock_And_Roll_Jesus&oldid=148282233

As for if the album should have it's own page, yes it should. Check any big album coming out over the next couple of months and it does have it's own page so I don't see why this would be anything different.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.100.183.110 (talkcontribs)

Yes, I'm looking at correct version The references you added are actually "external links" and not "references" (which are citations in superscript at the end of a sentence, referring to where the material was obtained). As for having its own page, my comment wasn't to imply it was going to be removed, simply that eventually it may be removed, (or merged,) not immediately :) Again, I'm not an expert on that procedure, so I'd suggest asking about that on the band's talk page. I'm still working on cleaning it up. I'll let you know when I'm done. Thanks! P.S. Please remember to sign your comments when you're writing on any "talk" page ArielGold 17:25, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
Edit: Okay I guess you did edit it while I was, so I just checked, and it looks much better. (Ahh all my work is useless! lol). Let me just go read it over again, don't edit it while I'm doing that, lol.) ArielGold 17:27, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Okay, fixed a few minor things. That is great how quick you figured out how to add the music info box, good job! It looks good, and about as "full" as it can get since it is a future release. I'll go find the right tag for that, and pop it up there, and an expand tag. Also, you may want to start a talk page. Looking good, great job! ArielGold 17:38, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Hey thanks a lot for looking over it, I appreciate it. The article until recently was looking very messy in my opinion so wanted to tidy it up a bit. My only concern is that the user rovinggangster keeps re-writing the whole thing and will probably do so again, removing all the references and sections etc... that I put in there.--83.100.183.110 17:50, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
I can keep an eye on it, and perhaps now that it is in the correct format, and I can point him to the many other examples, he won't ;) Let's assume it will not be an issue. ArielGold 17:56, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

one more thing. I see you edited the 'extra content' section on there. However the bit about Walmart and Target is in there twice. Once within the blockquote and then on the line below. --83.100.183.110 18:25, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

"Israel Lobby in the United States" entry

Thank you for your message about my editing of the entry "Israel Lobby in the United States." I didn't mean to delete the text, but, being new to wikipedia, I did so accidentally and was unsure how to fix my mistake. I wanted to draw your attention, however, to the fact that this entry is extraordinarily biased. Most of the seemingly objective descriptions of the "Israel Lobby" provided are from articles that offer only one, negative perspective on the existence and power of the Israel Lobby. Most notably, the article by Mearsheimer and Walt frequently cited throught the entry is a severely one-sided article that claims the Israel lobby has an unhealthy influence on American foreign policy. Many other scholars and pundits have strongly disagreed with this claim. If this entry is to reach the excellent standards of most other wikipedia entries, all references to the Mearsheimer and Walt thesis should relegated to the specific section in the entry devoted to their claims, and not scattered throughout the potions of the entry that purport to objectively define the "Israel lobby." Alternatively, articles about the Israel Lobby could be cited, along with that of Mearsheimer and Walt, which offer alternative perspectives. Examples of scholars who strongly disagree with Mearsheimer and Walt's thesis include: Michael Oren, Alan Dershowitz, Dennis Ross, as well as critics of Israel such as Noam Chomsky.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.212.83.10 (talkcontribs)

Hi, thanks for letting me know the background. I can fully empathize with the confusion encountered at first, especially since Wikipedia uses its own special "language". :) That being said, I must admit that I honestly have no knowledge about the Israel lobby, nor about the politics involved, so I'm unable to offer you any comment regarding the validity of the content.
Here is what I'd suggest you do: Rather than blanking sections, try re-writing them, or, if you must blank large portions, use the edit summary box at the bottom of the edit area and provide a complete explanation. (i.e. "removing large unsourced, biased claims") This will alert those who do "Recent Change" patrol that this is not indiscriminate blanking, but a genuine edit of an article. Also, maybe consider just taking the material out of the article, and then dropping it into the article's talk page, for comments from others. (While I should caution you, at times, talk pages get heated, so don't rise to the bait if that happens, remember, Wikipedia's goal is neutrality (WP:NPOV).
With what you've written here, I'd also suggest that you consider re-writing the article, as maybe your first "pet project" here, as it seems you have a firm grasp of the issues. If you like, I'd be more than happy to head over to your talk page, and drop some helpful links there that will guide you towards how Wikipedia articles are laid out, formatting, etc. (Biggest note is never indent a paragraph, use a colon in front of the paragraph if you need indentation.) Just let me know. ArielGold 19:43, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

If you go ahead with your proposed essay on template usage -- and i hope you do -- I would be very untested in Reading and commenting, perhaps contributing. Please send me a link when you have something you want others to look at. DES (talk) 17:06, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Do you have a good chunk of time? What started out as seemingly a pretty simple, quick thing, I've evolved into an article, lmao. Oooops! It is what DES is looking over for me, and you can find it here. I'd like your first impressions, thoughts, whatever you want with the time you have. I'm still working on it though, so frequent refreshes are in order!ArielGold 18:46, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
Wow, impressive. I like it and approve. I think it is a well written essay that i strongly agree with. I hvae complained before about some templates (however have failed to do much with it mostly because i do not do much vandal fighting anymore). Perhaps you would like to design me a custom block template? Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 18:54, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Ohhhhhhh I would love to! I'm waiting to hear back from DES to see what he thinks of it, and I'd like a few other opinions before it is moved to a public place, if you can think of anyone who would be interested in critiquing it, let me know or feel free to ask them to come here. I stillr eccomend just posting a quick note on her page. You can mention that I thought it would be a good idea. (not that it would do anything). That is seriosuley something that would seem right up her alley, I am sure she would be very interested in its development. Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 20:50, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Alright, I'll do that. I'm still working on it, of course, and DES has offered some pointers and advice that I'm just now getting a chance to read (was talking to my accountant for the last 2 hours), so I will have to go make some tea, go read his comments, and make the changes he suggests, as well as finish the rest of the article for his second review. Right to Vanish: In re: Nysted

I blanked the page for good reason. There is no user or article by said name. Please remove all reference to Mr. Nysted. The checkuser page should not come up in a Google search for Lee Nysted, or Nysted. Thank you, 12.173.179.75 17:07, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

As is stated on the page: "The following discussion is preserved as an archive of a Request for checkuser. Please do not modify it." I'm sorry if you disagree with Wikipedia's policies of preserving pages, but it is not your decision to make to blank the page. If you have any additional concerns relating to the page, I'd suggest that you take it to an Administrator. Thank you, ArielGold 17:11, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

Second, I have no idea who your "little johnny" is, without you providing a user name. Finally, any and all warnings or notices given are done with polite language, as well as being done because the user has done something to warrant them. While I can appreciate your protectiveness, your attacks towards me are not welcome, and if you seek to resolve a situation, do not help your cause. My suggestion would be for you to supervise any edits "johnny" makes to Wikipedia, to ensure additional warnings or notices are not given. Thank you, ArielGold 22:54, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

While I understand your frustration, first, take a deep breathe, and realize it is not worth getting upset over. Second, just to be clear, I'm not an administrator, so officially all I can do is warn the person as you've done. However, both of our notices seem to be falling on deaf ears, it seems Kappa doesn't understand that is an article about Pokeman (whatever that is), and has nothing to do with mythology. It took me a fairly long time to respond, because I had to figure out what that article was, where it originated from, why it was merged, and verify the merge on the project's talk page, and to look into what page Kappa was redirecting it to. I have reported Kappa for 3RR, and if you are also blocked (I notice you posted), my most sincere apologies to you both, but it is never a good idea to engage someone in a revert war. I've done what I can on Kappa's talk page to help him/her understand, and it is my hope that the two of you can work it out, or that someone on the Pokemon project page can help Kappa make a disamb page for it. Best wishes to you both, ArielGold 06:13, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Neither one of us have been blocked, which I suppose is for the best. :P I was actually going to withdraw from this when she suddenly asked me about what the Project had over Japanese Mythology, which completely baffled me. Anyways, thanks. -WarthogDemon 06:19, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

The odd thing is, in my research, the page Kappa redirected to had to do with Chinese mythology, not Japanese mythology. I'm confused on the entire issue, because I don't know what a Pokemon is, but I still think Kappa has a point, if that's the only way to say it, then the page should be created into a Disambiguation page, but that is for someone above me to do, so if you'd like to request it, perhaps doing so on the project page, or maybe Jaranda can help with it.

Next time, get up, walk away from the computer, and go make a nice hot cup of tea. :) Eventually, it will all get sorted out, with no worries. It certainly is not worth being upset over. Now take a break, you need it! ArielGold 06:24, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Milk is SO much better. :P And you're right. If you'll look in my post on the wikiproject mythology page, you'll see me stepping out of the conversation. Thanks, and happy editing. :D -WarthogDemon 06:26, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

ArielGold it's amazing that you would admit to having no idea what you are doing and yet just blindly revert without discussing or trying to figure it out. Anyway I think what I've done will work but I've never see a dab link back from the middle of a page before. Kappa 06:34, 6 August 2007 (UTC) ...Oh I know why you were acting that way... I think it's explained at WP:MEATPUPPET. Kappa 06:43, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Kappa, if you'll take the time to read my comments, I took a very long amount of time, (QUOTE from above: " It took me a fairly long time to respond, because I had to figure out what that article was, where it originated from, why it was merged, and verify the merge on the project's talk page, and to look into what page Kappa was redirecting it to.") I'm sorry you feel you're being treated unfairly, but again, as I suggested, ask someone to create a disambiguation page for it, and it won't be an issue. Also, I did not say I had no idea what I was doing, I said I didn't know what Pokemon was. I fully know what I was doing in reverting your re-direct, as well as understanding the WP:3RR rule. As for your accusations of meatpuppetry, you are mistaken. I have absolutely no "agenda" to promote, I was acting on Wikipedia 3RR policy, to intervene in an edit war, as was Jaranda, which is in no way related to sock/meatpuppetry. Cheers, ArielGold 06:48, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

thanks for the advice, and I mean that sincerely. August 7, 2007 me again but on a different IP i got blocked for a week because I was misinterpreted he said I had some sort of beef with fox and that I made threats and blxthos said he would report me ANI but i dont think he told the the truth and\or he misquoted me. here thank you again, towers84 72.189.48.223 04:45, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Hmm, it really looks like you've gotten into quite a controversial area, one I'm not willing to step into. However, I can give you some tips, first of all, merely "citing a source" isn't always enough to meet policy. The sources must be reliable sources, (i.e. well known newspapers, news stations, etc.), for an idea of what the criteria for that is, see here. Second, I'd suggest that you again realize that this is not something worth being upset over. Don't get in edit wars, and most of all, don't shout at others, (typing in all caps) or otherwise engage in attacks, as we talked earlier, those aren't productive and rarely end well. I would especially direct you to re-read the response posted by /Blaxthos again, without being defensive, as it specifically quotes the sentence that had him/her very upset. (Without knowing your motivations, I will assume you simply wrote that as a hypothetical example, and not as a threat, as he's intimating.) Now, read the response Arzel posted, he agrees with you that the information should be removed. If edit wars ensue, my suggestion is to take it to the next level, ask on the board what that would be, different topics have different dispute resolution areas, and I'm not familiar with what that would be under. I'm sorry if that doesn't help much, but I think you can get on the right track if you can refrain from getting so bothered by things, and restrain your temper a teeny bit :) Cheers! ArielGold 04:59, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

About that IP that copyvioed on Albert Pike

The sources also fail WP:RS, and are misleading in the extreme. I would suggest reverting on sight if you see the IP editing again. MSJapan 02:52, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks WD, I really appreciate it. I'm sorry you were involved, but after doing more looking, it seems that whole Pokemon thing is pretty contentious at times, makes me glad I don't know what it is! LOL. ArielGold 21:47, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
Nah, it's a fun game and cartoon show. (It's an anime, manga, video game, card game, and pretty much in all shapes and form in the media.) :) The big contentious issues is our deciding to merge the Pokemon into lists but I won't bore you with the details of that. Happy editing! :D -WarthogDemon 21:50, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Please see here. Don't be put off by the drama surrounding this at the moment. You have some good suggestions there, and I'd like to see an essay written on them. Please ask if you need any help. Carcharoth 00:02, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the note. I've replied on the talk page of the essay. It's very impressive. I also saw User:ArielGold/Etiquette: archiving for posterity as it is up for AfD - that's more organised than I've ever managed to be! :-) Anyway, good luck with the essay (though it looks more like a fully fledged guideline to me). Aw. Poor Ariel! Why on earth did you ever leave? Jmlk17 06:38, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
Ugh, trust me it wasn't my choice. And I literally would give all I have to return. I miss waking up and seeing the mountains, from one side of the view to the other, every single day. The sight of the Rockies could bring joy into my heart, even in my darkest days. Now I'm stuck in nowhereseville, midwest, and I can't even tell which way is north, because I don't have the mountains there to guide me. It is hot, humid, and there are icky bugs everywhere! I could handle the heat in Colorado, 110 there felt like 78 here, lol. And oh ... I miss the snow, the skiing, snowshoeing up to the top of a mountain, *sigh*. Someday, my friend, someday I will make it back to my home, and I will never, ever leave again. Ever! In the meantime, you can look at the mountains and tell them I don't forget, and I'll be back soon. :) ArielGold 06:42, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
Man, I know how you feel! I went away to school on the East Coast for a while, and got so sick of the humidity and not being able to tell which way was West, etc. I am actually moving back to Fort Collins soon, so I will enjoy it for the both of us :). We miss ya here though...never enough Colorado lovers here. Jmlk17 06:47, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

Ahhh, Fort Collins, great little quirky fun town. I used to go up there on weekends. I lived in Arvada, had a gorgeous view, and I'd work a three day week, (16/8/16) so I'd get four days in a row off to go into the mountains to ski, snowshoe, etc. I loved it. I'll be back (sounding nothing like Arnold). Well, Ariel must go to sleep now, and Jmlk, thank you so much for the chat, really it meant a lot to talk to someone who can understand. You have a wonderful night, I'll be back in a few hours! ArielGold 06:50, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

Of course. I lived in Arvada for about 18 months when I was little. Hope you sleep well, and I hope the homesickness isn't too bad when you wake up. Cause I've been there, and done that, and I know it isn't always pleasant to be away from home. But hey, look on the bright side: least you're not in Boulder ;). TTYL. Jmlk17 06:52, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
ROFL I worked there for a year or so, had to drive 36 in nasty storms, ugh, but I honestly came to like the town, with all its quirky people. It was a pretty fun place to hang out, but I wouldn't want to live there, lol. G'Night! ArielGold 06:56, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

RCC

This NASA page sez that the underside does not RCC. It uses black high-temperature reusable surface insulation tiles. I assume that this means that they are not "reinforced". They do not seem to be carbon-carbon either, but silica.--SallyForth123 03:00, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

Alright, changed RCC to TPS. And I'll actually go look it up, I have the Shuttle Systems manual here, so I can find out exactly the material used.  :) ArielGold 03:03, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
I made the differentiation in the text to implicitly support the assertion that they were less "critical." I suppose what is more important is that the gouge did not go all the way through. Of course, I am assuming that the damage did go all the way through in Columbia — since I do not expect that the heat and force of the re-entry plasma alone would finish cutting through the RCC damaged area. But how to suggest all that in our brilliant prose briefly is, as yet, unclear to me.--SallyForth123 03:12, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
I didn't check who put it in, but using terms like "worrisome" when clearly not terms used by NASA, was just not neutral. Until a focused inspection is done on Sunday, and full analysis by the IAT and MMT, NASA refuses to speculate. And yes, HRSI tiles are mostly used on the underside, except for gap fillers, and the RCC on the wing edge. ArielGold 03:19, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
Well, I do not like using Yahoo news links anyways because they quickly expire and Yahoo! rotates in new text and a new title into the same URL and it does so freely as the story develops. The CBS link is good. But it was AP who used the word "worrisome", so I was assuming that it was an acceptable starting point. Of course, NASA and the astronauts have to play down the worry because the civilian public is always looking for a drama, even in the lethal and unforgiving environment of the vacuum. If I were Barbara Morgan, I would control the tendency to panic with simple ignorance and just tell the others: "Since I cannot fix it, I do not even want to hear about it. Just let me know if I am dead."--SallyForth123 03:27, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, AP actually is not as bad as some, but they still seem to use words I object to, at least when it comes to NASA. It is really discouraging for the genuine, neutral news reporters, to see headlines like "DRUNK IN SPACE!" and to see AP call Barbara a "teacher in space", because she is a full fledged, trained astronaut, she knows the systems of the orbiter, and has every qualification that the Ph.D.s have. I've talked with Bill Harwood, and others, and it frustrates them to see that junk get printed, but aside from remaining neutral, and reporting facts, there isn't much they can do about it.

And lol, I love your impression of Barbara, that's actually how I'd feel, don't tell me until you know! lol. This happens every mission, and when it is over, nobody will edit the page for months, but I'd just like to see it remain as objective and neutral as possible during the day to day stuff, you know? (I know you do, lol). Yahoo sucks, actually for news, not only are they highly biased on much of their news, but as you mentioned, their stupid links are outdated within days, it seems.

The truly sad thing is, I've been reading CNN daily for almost 8 years now, and I'm even starting to see THEM get biased, or "selective" in their reporting. This is most evident when anything remotely related to the Turner conglomerate is involved, (god forbid they actually report on the bad part of it!) but lately, even they take the AP wires, and put their "spin" into it. Sadly they've been doing it more and more with the shuttle missions lately, although I fail to grasp the reason. I could go into a very long diatribe about the absolute necessity of space exploration, but I won't bore you, lol. Suffice to say, I no longer trust CNN even, to refrain from using weasle-y words, and I rely 100% on NASA's news conferences (I watch them live) and I don't listen to what the reporters try to spin things to, but what NASA's response is. And, if I miss something, I trust Bill Harwood's reports. I've read him for the past 4+ years (since prior to STS-114), and I've never seen him blow anything out of proportion, he's always quoted NASA's staff, and remained neutral, which is why I prefer to use his references over even such as Space.com, (I don't fully trust them either, but that's another story, lol) Cheers! And thanks for the company and conversation tonight! Nice to have someone to talk to ArielGold 03:39, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi PS expert ;-)

Hi, I saw that you are a PhotoShop expert. I have a hard time with it, do you also use After Effects? I might need a tutor!. BTW I do a lot of work also on the astronautical part of the french WP. Following presently the STS-118 mission. CU.Capbat 14:03, 14 August 2007 (UTC) Bat

Hello :) I do not use After Effects, I use Xenofex. I'm not sure I'd be a very good tutor, while I've worked with PS for almost a decade professionally, I don't think I'd be particularly good in teaching how I do things, as I have a rather unorthodox method of working, lol. I'm sure there are a ton of tutorial sites out there, though! And that's great that you're doing the French space stuff, awesome! ArielGold 18:43, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Dear Arielgold, Thank you for your valuable instruction. I read the tag on footnotes and went back over my text so I could properly create the footnote in the Wikipedia style. I am currently working on adding additional third party sources for my additions. However, Dominvsvobism deletes my additions repeatedly with no discussion or explanation. I am trying to make this a well rounded informative page and he wants to only make it a forum for one issue. I consider his efforts to be vandalism. Could you please take a look at what I am presenting and what he is presenting. All my additions have third party reliable news sources for them,(I am adding the footnotes). His additions rely on blogs.NancyHeise 07:07, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

You're most welcome, Nancy, and I'm afraid that I'd be unable to help with the issue that page currently seems to have. It seems the issues you mention have been to mediation before, and I'm simply not familiar enough with the content of the article, to be able to intervene at this time. However, it is my hope that the article's structure can at least be helped by my suggestions, as well as its readability, with removal of the URLs from the article. I've no doubt that you'll stay on top of the situation, and I wish you all the very best. For reference, I'm going to drop a little "cheat sheet" onto your talk page with reference helps, feel free to put it anywhere you please for your assistance, or to delete if you don't need. Ciao!
