Gudovac massacre TFAEdit

G'day 23. I've done a blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/Gudovac massacre. Have a look and tweak as you see fit. It is just under the 1200 character limit, so it won't take any expansion unless some material is deleted to make way. I'll keep an eye on the requests page and nominate it when 28 April is available, but if I miss it, feel free. Cheers, Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 00:15, 25 February 2017 (UTC)

Hi, PM. I hadn't realized the article had been nominated. I've trimmed the blurb slightly for readability. 23 editor (talk) 00:37, 25 February 2017 (UTC)
The date isn't open yet, but I like to prep the nom blurb well in advance to get in first on a given date. Cheers, Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 00:38, 25 February 2017 (UTC)

March Madness 2017Edit

G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

For the Milhist co-ordinators. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) & MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 07:23, 26 February 2017 (UTC)

Recent edits of user ArcariusEdit

I saw today that you recently deleted sections "Terminology" and "Sources" in the article Anti-Slavic sentiment. Please, reconsider those actions since there was no reason for removing referenced content, and also there was no justification (what so ever) for deleting source list that contained some very relevant scientific collections of papers, and papers from scientific journals, all published in recent years. I asked user @Staszek Lem: not to delete referenced content without discussion, but there was no reply. I do not want to comment here some other recent actions, like those of user @Arcarius:, who unilaterally moved page List of Catholic dioceses in Serbia to new title List of Catholic dioceses in Serbia and Kosovo, and introduced some erroneous data into that article. When I saw that last month, I contacted him here: Some of your recent edits on Kosovo are incorrect, and asked him to correct those errors (for example, he claims there that Vatican has recognized Kosovo), but so far he made no corrections. No further comment is needed. Sorabino (talk) 08:32, 26 May 2017 (UTC)

There is nothing wrong with you adding information on etymology, terminology, etc. Just make sure to use secondary sources that explicitly corroborate the given text, rather than finding primary sources yourself and using them to provide an example of what sorts of terms were in use 200 years ago. This is original research and isn't allowed on Wikipedia. If you are able to find a secondary source chronicling the terminology in question then by all means reinstate the deleted text. Your wider dispute with Arcarius is none of my concern. You are free to raise the issue at WP:ANI if things get out of hand. 23 editor (talk) 15:21, 26 May 2017 (UTC)

NATO bombing of YugoslaviaEdit

In the article NATO bombing of Yugoslavia, a users keeps adding a line regarding nurseries being bombed but offers no sources nor dialogue at all. Can you verify that Vuzz88's edit is valid? Thanks. 108.54.93.183 (talk) 16:19, 4 June 2017 (UTC)

First of all, I would like to clarify that I have no interest in being caught up in this dispute. Costas Douzinas, in The End of Human Rights: Critical Thought at the Turn of the Century (Bloomsbury, 2000), p. 135, says that nurseries were indeed targeted. You are free to check Google Books to verify. On this basis, you may reinsert the statement, source included, or you may remove it yet again if you feel that only mentioning hospitals and schools is sufficient. 23 editor (talk) 16:45, 4 June 2017 (UTC)
You won't be brought into this dispute. I reached out to you for you have edited before on the page and seem like a stable and trustworthy editor to discuss with. Thank you for the help. I will be reinstating the edit with it's associated source. I think it is relevent to mention all targets that were hit. Nurseries included. We now have the citation to confirm it. Cheers. 108.54.93.183 (talk) 16:58, 4 June 2017 (UTC)
Just because some crank tosses it into a book, doesn't make it so. The idea that NATO military heads sat around a table and thought that bombing a nursery was a good idea is just rank stupidity. Leafing thru the author's work, he seems to be very politically motivated (to say the least.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.111.42.37 (talk) 14:56, 23 July 2017 (UTC)

Kragujevac massacre as potential TFA for 21 OctoberEdit

G'day 23, just wanted to let you know that I've put Kragujevac massacre up on the potential TFA list for its upcoming anniversary. There is already competition for that date, but I think we push it given that few if any massacre articles have ever run as TFA. Cheers, Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 08:53, 27 June 2017 (UTC)

We could try, but we'll run into a number of obstacles given that there is already significant competition for that particular date and that a similar article (Gudovac massacre) just had its time in the spotlight. Perhaps we would have a better chance of getting the main page slot if we choose to run it on 27 January 2018 for International Holocaust Remembrance Day. 23 editor (talk) 15:11, 27 June 2017 (UTC)
Given the small number of Jews killed, I'd rather go for 21 October. Cheers, Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 02:28, 28 June 2017 (UTC)

Russian Protective CorpsEdit

G'day 23, as you have probably picked up, I'm keen on further improving this article with a view to a Milhist ACR nomination. One of the things I'm working on is a locator map template so we can include a map or two showing where it was deployed, I'm just chasing up some data so I can create the template. The template will be useful for other occupied Serbia articles too. As you were the one that really expanded it with Russian sources, would you be interested in a joint nom once the maps are done? Cheers, Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 04:20, 1 July 2017 (UTC)

April 2018 Milhist Backlog DriveEdit

G'day all, please be advised that throughout April 2018 the Military history Wikiproject is running its annual backlog elimination drive. This will focus on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • adding or improving listed resources on Milhist's task force pages
  • updating the open tasks template on Milhist's task force pages
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the scope of military history will be considered eligible. This year, the Military history project would like to extend a specific welcome to members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red, and we would like to encourage all participants to consider working on helping to improve our coverage of women in the military. This is not the sole focus of the edit-a-thon, though, and there are aspects that hopefully will appeal to pretty much everyone.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 April and runs until 23:59 UTC on 30 April 2018. Those interested in participating can sign up here.

If you have time and good faith, it will be very nice to support the change and I think that your contribution in that discussion will matter. Battle of Kumanovo‎Edit

Hi 23 editor and Happy New Year! I left a message for you on the talk page of Battle of Kumanovo‎ article. It seems that the Battle of Kumanovo was the largest battle of the Vardar military theater of the First Balkan War, but not the largest battle of the War. Greetings! Jingiby (talk) 20:41, 1 January 2019 (UTC)

"Major battle" and "largest battle" are two different things, Jingiby. 23 editor (talk) 17:28, 2 January 2019 (UTC)
And where is the source about the major battle during the First Balkan War? By the way per Tom Buchanan, The Balkan Wars after 100 Years in James Pettifer and Tom Buchanan (eds.), War in the Balkans: Conflict and Diplomacy Before World War I , I.B. Tauris, 2015, the Bulgarians won the major battle during the Balkan War: at Lule Burgas (29–31 October 1912). Jingiby (talk) 19:13, 2 January 2019 (UTC)
There can be multiple major battles in a war. I don't know why you keep bring up Lule Burgas. What does that have to do with Kumanovo? Perhaps there is a language barrier? "Major" is not synonymous with "decisive", nor with "largest". 23 editor (talk) 19:35, 2 January 2019 (UTC)
The source above claims the major battle during the Balkan Wars was that at Lule Burgas. More the Battle of Kumanovo was the largest battle but of the Vardar military theater per: Igor Despot, The Balkan Wars in the Eyes of the Warring Parties: Perceptions and Interpretations, iUniverse, 2012, ISBN 1475947038, p. 94. Can you provide a reliable source supporting your opinion? As one experienced Wikipedian you knou that contributions must be verifiable through reliable sources, preferably using inline citations. Thanks! Jingiby (talk) 19:46, 2 January 2019 (UTC)
Fair enough, but the passage that you altered clearly states "a major battle of the First Balkan War" and not "the major battle". "An important battle", which is what you added, means the exact same thing as "a major battle", so I'm not even sure why there is a dispute. "Major" sounds more professional than "important", which should be reserved for Simple English Wikipedia. Also, I believe iUniverse is a self-publishing service. The works it publishes are thus not WP:RS. 23 editor (talk) 19:53, 2 January 2019 (UTC)
Yes, but Igor Despot is a History and Philosophy professor at the University of Zagreb. He has master degree from the same University, with the thesis The Balkan Wars (1912 -1913) and the Croatian Public. His PhD dissertation topic is: The Balkan Wars in the eyes of the warring parties, i.e. he is an expert of this issue. Jingiby (talk) 20:08, 2 January 2019 (UTC)
You're welcome to post at Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard, but that's beside the point. This isn't about the source, it's about the wording. There is no reason for there to even be a dispute here. 23 editor (talk) 20:16, 2 January 2019 (UTC)
Per the book The Serbs and Their Leaders in the Twentieth Century with Peter Radan and Aleksandar Pavković as ed., Ashgate, 1997, ISBN 1855218917, p. 143, the Battle of Kumanovo was an important battle. I.e. what is written in the article at the moment. Regards. Jingiby (talk) 20:20, 2 January 2019 (UTC)
Again, you're completely missing the point. "Major" is synonymous with "important". 23 editor (talk) 20:24, 2 January 2019 (UTC)
"Major" is synonymous with most "important". Jingiby (talk) 20:26, 2 January 2019 (UTC)
If I wasn't a native English speaker, perhaps I'd agree with you. 23 editor (talk) 20:27, 2 January 2019 (UTC)
Ok, I have checked it. You are really right. That was my linguistic misunderstanding wich led me to a big confusion. Regards. Jingiby (talk) 20:32, 2 January 2019 (UTC)

Insurgency in the Preševo ValleyEdit

I edited serbian page of Insurgency in the Preševo Valley where I described deaths of 18 policemans and 6 soldiers during conflict. That is why I changed Yugoslavia casualties to 24. Thats the real casualties, not 18.

User:Stefan Kosovac —Preceding undated comment added 13:38, 30 January 2019 (UTC)

Do you have a source for that? 23 editor (talk) 18:50, 30 January 2019 (UTC)
Yes I have - https://web.archive.org/web/20081225205542/http://bujanovacpress.yubc.net/pozadina_sukoba/napadi%202.html thats the official serbian source
its this part if you dont understand serbian i will translate it to you
POSLEDICE TERORISTICKIH NAPADA -------- CONSEQUENCES OF TERRORIST ATTACKS
A. Ubijeno 34 ----------- A. Killed - 34
1. Gradjana 10 --------- 1. Civilians killed 10
- Srba i Crnogoraca 5, Albanaca 4, ostalih pripadnika razlicite nacionalnosti 1 -------- (Serbs 5, Albanians 4, other nationalities 1)
2. Pripadnika MUP - a 18 --------- Members of MUP (Serbian police) 18 killed
3. Pripadnika VJ 6 ----------- 3. members of VJ (Vojska Jugoslavije - Yugoslav Army) 6 killed
this means there were 24 Yugoslavia military casualties so I would like if you can change all this on english page

Serbia - GANEdit

Hello 23 editor, I would like to ask for your help regarding Serbia's (I hope near) future GA nomination.

Which parts could be improved and all in all do you think that there are arguments in favour of the nomination?

One more thing, if you should ever need some literature or academia papers which are not available online or in Canada, I am willing to get them and photograph them for you, taking in consideration that you have done a great work on Serbia-related themes on en.wikipedia.

Thank you, Mm.srb (talk) 15:36, 3 May 2019 (UTC)

Hi, Mm.srb. At the moment, I don't think the article is ready for GA given how much of it remains unsourced. When this is resolved and when the prose is copy-edited, I think it stands a fair chance of becoming a GA. There isn't one specific area that is lacking, the issues I've outlined are ubiquitous unfortunately. I'll try to make some improvements if and when I have the time. And thank you for your gracious offer. I'll most certainly making an inquiry if there is anything I need. Regards. 23 editor (talk) 12:59, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
I have started working on the article with implementing new sources, but bottom line - I completely agree with you, there is still a lot of work to be done. My offer stands at all times; I will be abroad from end of may to mid June. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need some books or articles. cheers Mm.srb (talk) 14:43, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
