Hi, and thank you for your attention on my work. I added two more references and hope now it's better sourced! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kheo17 (talkcontribs) 00:37, 26 February 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing out the issues with Psalm 150 (band)

I've provided a reliable source and I think I've cleaned it up sufficiently now. I don't see an entry for the article at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion so all that's left to be done is for you to remove the prod. Thanks again. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 23:45, 2 March 2011 (UTC)

Thanks. Yes, it needs better references, but there are bands in that source that take up less space. Psalm 150 gets just over a full column, and some bands only get 1/4 of a column. I wouldn't supply that reference for them. Thanks again. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 19:37, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

Jazz Royalties

Beautiful. Prod = Proposal to delete. I hadn't seen or read that acronym anyplace else. I did see that, but "Prod" didn't register. After I research the rules, I'll write more Tapered (talk) 20:21, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

On further reflection: at BEST, this article is worth a heading "Royal Nicknames" in the Nicknames of jazz musicians article, but if jazz fans feel the need to put trivia like this in Wikipedia, it's not wasting enough of the site's bandwidth to be worth my time to deal with it. Frank Zappa was right; "Jazz is not dead. It just smells funny." http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Frank_Zappa — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tapered (talkcontribs) 05:34, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
  • I'm not an enthusiast on "royal" nicknames myself (or anything else royal come to that). But there was something there as a sociological phenomenon at least in the 20s-30s, with King Oliver, Duke Ellington Count Basie, and can't be completely ignored; that subsection approach looks a decent idea. But best discussed on the article Talk page. I'll copy these points over to there this evening. AllyD (talk) 07:08, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

Notable being established in sandbox

Re: List of jazz pianists‎; 22:12 . . (-20) . . AllyD (talk | contribs) (Undid revision 424924172 by Betty4 (talk) -nonnotable redlink)

Redlink? There are old redlinks all over Wikipedia. I just started this article less than 24 hours ago. You're too quick on the trigger. This article is in the sandbox. Notability is being established off-line. Ricardo Scales "IS" a notable jazz pianist! Wikipedia suggests that contributors "NOT BITE" other new contributors to avoid discouragement. Give a contributor ample time to gather all necessary data before undoing someone else's hard work. --Betty4 (talk) 22:21, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

Re: Asylum Street Spankers

Sheesh! Given the abusive language, I think in this case a single warning would have been in order - in fact, I went ahead and left one for the anonymous editor. There was an earlier series of similar edits from another IP address, but it looks like the same ISP - I went ahead and left a warning for them, too, even though it was a couple of months ago. If the IP address continues to change, I think we'd need to semi-protect the article. I'll watchlist the article in the meantime. Thanks, -- Gyrofrog (talk) 14:56, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

I have gone ahead and blocked the anon. IP for 1 month. The edits are so intermittent that I didn't see any point in the usual 24-hour first block. Given that the IP's only edits have been potentially libelous additions to that one particular article, I think the lengthy block is justified. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 16:00, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

Similau

I am not sure the Henry Martin text is the reference I would have picked for this. Considering I transcribed the score, recorded it on a CD I produced, and had talked to Russell myself (around 1999), this is really not where the information came from. But, I have the Martin book at work and cannot look at it until later...let me see what you are looking at.

I am thinking pretty serious of doing a "Bird in Igor's Yard" page (have Russell's score he gave to me). I have full anaylsis of the score and neatly redone into Encore.

Hubertine Heijermans

Hello, here they speak french, but wikipedia has no swiss section. The french Swiss are under supervision of fr.wikipedia. The Italian Swiss have it.wikipedia, the German Swiss are on de.wikip. The French from France do NOT read even the largest Swiss papers, do hardly know a thing about Swiss museums. Only dead Swiss artists or famous are accepted in France. The article Hubertine Heijermans was written by Paldopaldino in french, and was removed without warning, he just told me he saw pink flags. No discussion, because he does not know how to find the place to talk. He has Italian mother language, writes English with difficulty and worse, understands no dutch. Yet he asked me to help. Paldopaldino is steward and flies long distances, he is seldom at home with his family, therefore he is fast on computers to keep contact on earth. Many references, useful for the article is information from too long ago. All the professors are dead. Only Swietlan Kraczyna is alive, but his native language is Russian. I have a problem to get enough links. But without english nobody in England, Holland, or in the world can read the article. I do not understand why the Internet website with so many paintings cannot serve as a link? The reader finds a portrait of Isabelle Adjani there, where she is an actress in the film 'La Reine Margot.' That is public. Can one image of Adjani serve as a link? How to send it. i do not master the long explanation about sending. Thanks, Kalaharih--Kalaharih (talk) 22:21, 13 July 2011 (UTC)

  • There is no problem with citations in other languages; after all, the one I found is in French. But the article does need references, not least because it is a biography of a living person. And I am sceptical about whether Ms Heijermans meets the notability criteria for artists, which is another reason for seeking references. Perhaps criterion #4 is the best bet, and I thought the Museum van Bommel van Dam might support that, but her works are not listed under "Highlights uit de Collectie" on their website. So I do urge you to seek out references that can meet the criteria, if possible. AllyD (talk) 22:48, 13 July 2011 (UTC)

Yes, no mention in Highlights, but Museum van Bommel van Dam started Highlights later then in the beginning of the 70s. i am sorry to say that you may not have seen the Musée Jenisch where a list is public on their site with the name under H on it. It says Cabinet d'Estampes and ' liste'. this site figures on Wikipedia. They included new work in 2007. But not only museums make a painter gain notoriety. Much depends on his technique, obviously needing an art expert or restorer to establish that criterium. It is late for today, goodnight. Kalahari--Kalaharih (talk) 01:05, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

Hello,

I am very sorry, that I did not use the sandbox at all, I hope i can offer my excuses to other wikipedians because I only now saw, that I had to do trials in the sandbox to get a view, while instead I save the page, and everybody sees every tiny correction. Really stupid of me, Kalaharih--Kalaharih (talk) 18:49, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

  • There's nothing wrong with making successive edits in the article itself. But, as I said before, what the article needs is references to establish the subject's notability. The footnotes that have been added are references to the existence of various institutions and people, but do not attest to the subject of the article or demonstrate her notability. For example, there is no point in referencing Singapore as a country; nobody doubts it exists, the issue is whether Ms Heijermans' exhibition there was notable (critical reviews in newspapers for example?) AllyD (talk) 22:30, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

It is best to discuss article improvements in a slightly more public place, so I've copied my comments above to Talk:Hubertine Heijermans where it would be best to continue any further discussion on this topic. AllyD (talk) 22:34, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

In your talk of 2.32, 14 july 2011 you are right to ask for a clear link, that fortunately i was able to trace. You can find it on *Newspapers Singapore The Straits Times 1994 Any contact I try with Nancy Roach became impossible, because the Gallery does not exist any longer and the person went to Australia. For adding that BBC News ref to the Teeside railway viaduct article. I presume I can just copy that format now for other news sources (obviously changing the date and such like)? I have a bit of coding experience so this is slowly making sense to me....The article has been saved from deletion anyway by the looks of it if I'm reading things right. Things certainly move fast around here...the page changed 3 times while I was looking at it tonight!

Please do not remove Biographies of Living Persons prods from an article unless it contains at least one reliable source or was created before 18 March 2010, as you did with Liam Stubbs. If you oppose the deletion of an article under this process, please consider sourcing the article or commenting at the respective talk page. Thank you. According to the WP:BLPPROD Unlike standard proposed deletion, the BLP deletion template may be removed only after the biography contains a reliable source that supports at least one statement made about the person in the article. nik.. .

Thank you for the fix. I am sorry to say I did not know I should not have removed those maintenance templates. Two faults on my part: (1) I did not realize that actual book reference and a youtube-clip about the book background were not good citations. I agree that reputed reviews are valid citations. I've not been able to locate any that I would call reputed. Will work on that. Maybe I'll get some help from others here. (2) I assumed that having done a change, I could remove the maintenance parts. And, if necessary, they would be brought back in. That was a bad decision. So, I guess I should leave the maintenance parts in after editing the page and they would be removed by reviewers if the page is deemed to have fulfilled the requirements. --nik 05:47, 7 December 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nik.. . Alan Stransman

Hey, I noticed that you've flagged the article on Alan Stransman as review due to "non-credible sources". However, at this time, very little information is available on Stransman so as a result it's hard to find sources that Wikipedia would deem "reliable". However, in the future, when more sources appear on the topic, I will add more sources to make the article more credible.

Zim (software)

Dear AllyD, what sort of references for a text-editor do you have in mind?

I took the wikipedia article Ted (word processor) for a template. There the references are to ted's website; debian repository; and ubuntu repository.

Take also the Nano_(text_editor) article: all references are to the nano's development site.

Look also at the JED_(text_editor) article --- the same situation: the reference is to the development site.

I guess all these articles are also not meeting wikipedia gidelines, no? ;)

Could you please show me a wikipedia article about a text-editor which, in your opinion, meets wikipedia guidelines, so I could use is as a good example? :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dmon137 (talkcontribs) 00:18, 10 January 2012 (UTC)

Again: Could you please show me a wikipedia article about a text-editor which, in your opinion, has significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, so that I could use is it as a good example? Or do you believe *all* articles about text-editors should be deleted from wikipedia? 85.81.116.15 (talk) 22:43, 10 January 2012 (UTC)
In the recent questionnaire about Wikipedia I was asked whether I think the drop in wiki-edits is due to hostile and incoherent reaction of wikipedians towards newcomers. I didn't understand the question first. I understand now... :( 85.81.116.15 (talk) 22:43, 10 January 2012 (UTC)
  • Off the top of my head, vi and Emacs are articles with significant references and listed sources. But anyway, the point is not to delete articles, it is to ensure that those on Wikipedia have their notability clearly established through independent references. That's all, and that is what the notability tag is requesting. AllyD (talk) 22:56, 10 January 2012 (UTC)
But anyway, the point is not to delete articles --- aha, and what exactly did you put on top of my article? --- "the article is likely to be ... deleted".
And since you didn't put this note on same refs-quality articles (ted, jed, tomboy, and nano) I find your reaction to a newcomer very hostile and completely incoherent. Anyway, I've got some random references to Zim from some internet magazines (just like in Vim article) --- feel happy, bully. Dmon137 (talk) 11:44, 11 January 2012 (UTC).

  • Looking at your Talk page, there have been repeated speedy-deletes of pages about Didi-07 ltd. As stated there, these have been because the pages have no indication as to why the company is notable. I'd suggest referring to WP:CORPDEPTH for details of what is needed for a company to be consdered notable. AllyD (talk) 17:40, 13 January 2012 (UTC)
  • Dear AlliD,

Thank you for your response! I read the rules in WP:CORPDEPTHand also the importance of company notability. Can I edit the page Didi-07 now, if I update the information about the company, which means more information to prove the notability of the company? Also I am asking you this, because now I can not change the page, as there is no edit button. I am waiting your help and advice about this matter. MNB Technologies, Inc

The staff at MNB prepared the base article for Wikipedia and did so in a very objective manner with no marketing hype, etc. We then asked others familiar with our company and products to provide feedback and incorporated their thoughts so that it presents information of particular interest accurately.

We then also added references to independent news and trade publications, federal government awards, and relevant awards by independent agencies. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nvgranny (talkcontribs) 15:30, 26 February 2012 (UTC)

  • A problem is that asking for and incorporating feedback, which good business practice for in-house publications, is original research in terms of Wikipedia; it is implicitly selective. I've also added a 3rd party ref (always better than the subject's own site). AllyD (talk) 09:07, 24 March 2012 (UTC)

Waqidi Falicoff, Music Career

Thank for your input. I have spent several years trying to rectify the lack of credit for my co-composing of the Broadway Show, "Story Theatre", which won 2 Tony awards in 1971 and was nominated for best show of the year. Not only was I not given proper credit but another person who also a co-composer was also not credited, Raphael Grinage. Neither of us received nearly $250,000 in royalties at the time and none of the composers received any royalties from the ABC TV Show, Story Theatre. Although, the director of the show, Paul Sills, did correct some of the key Broadway databases for me (Samuel French), my colleague and I never received the accolades given to a composer of a Broadway "hit" show, as was given to the two other composers (Johnny Carson Show, etc). Ordinarily I would certainly not post a Wikipedia page about myself. Indeed, if you notice I did not make this a bio about my entire career but only my music. I will leave it to others to post about me in these other fields if my contributions warrant it.

At least I was honest as to who created the article. I could have easily had a proxy do it for me. I would also point out that I have reviewed numerous Wikipedia pages on individuals I know. I can tell you categorically that there is no way that all these articles were done without the help of the individual, minimally a close friend or relative. The level of detail is simply too great.

I thank you very much for the opinion. I can tell you that I was not 100% happy in doing this. If you think that my musical accomplishment as a Broadway Composer does not meet the minimum "fame" requirement of Wikipedia, I would understand if it is chosen to be deleted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by WFalicoff (talkcontribs) 17:34, 8 April 2012 (UTC)

TRG Media

Hi AllyD,

You recently put the page TRG Media up for speedy deletion. As of right now, we do not have much content up on the article, nor do we have our full citations listed. Until we have completed the website, is it possible for the speedy removal tags to be deleted, or for the page to be saved as an unfinished draft?

Thanks! -TheRealGeeks

Wadi Adventure - Conflict of Interest

Hi AllyD,

Apologies if I have wasted your time by starting a page on Wadi Adventure (now deleted) but I thought this facility may prove just as interesting as the many like it that have their own pages on Wikipedia and create a basic template for others with an interest in the tourist attractions of the region or the technology employed to build common knowledge. It was not my intention to spam and accordingly I made my professional connection to the project clear and did not include non-factual information in what was written. I understand the reasoning behind the deletion and if it should remain so then would it be proper of me to remove links to it I made in other articles?

MessageNet systems

Hi AllyD, thank you for taking the time to tag this page I created this morning. It looks like you're very well experienced in company notability, and I welcome your expertise! I also welcome more editors to help add more sources to this company's article, as I think this company contributes to this field (forgive me if I'm enthusiastic about my IT interest!).

As of the time of posting, I hadn't yet completed entering all the references in my list (you're fast!); but I've since added the majority of them. At your convenience, would you mind soon taking another look and reconsidering the tags you placed there, please? I'm not sure if there's one that asks for more sources, and isn't so strong as to say it might be deleted, perhaps?... I'm still sort of new to editing here. Please advise! Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chris.rider81 (talkcontribs) 18:34, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

I've since added references. And there has been additional activity from other editors. I think this article is well on its way to being of a more notable status. I haven't heard anything back from you since my last communication above, so I think you are pretty busy. In light of that, I'm going to go ahead and remove the notability tag, but leave the primary-sources tag. Hopefully someone in the community, in-the-know about this industry, can provide even more! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chris.rider81 (talkcontribs) 18:53, 2 May 2012 (UTC)

Templates to point users to other Wikipedias

For people like today's Albanian who post articles in other languages, there is at WP:PNT/T a useful set of templates to point them to the relevant WP. Many of them are bilingual, like {{contrib-sq1}}, which can be useful if the contributor doesn't understand English. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 16:42, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

  • In that particular case, a Google translation indicated it was an unreferenced story about a woman wearing a Niqab going into a French shop, so some distance from appropriate WP content in any language. AllyD (talk) 17:04, 12 May 2012 (UTC)
  • Oh, sure, Google also showed that both his articles were copyvio and I zapped them accordingly, but (though it may be hard on the Albanian WP) he may as well be pointed to someone who can at least try to explain things in his own language, and it may reduce the likelihood of his wasting any more of our time. But the main point of the PNT/T templates is that not infrequently we get serious contributors who just don't know there is any other WP. JohnCD (talk) 22:31, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

Monoblock

Hi AllyD, thank you so much for your attention! I think article's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monoblock_Industry_of_Imagineering) neutrality (and importance) is sustained by the provided list of multiple independent, third-party reliable sources that describe the subject in detail (websites, newspaper articles and critical reviews). I checked neutrality again though, and modified some wording. Also, I read the wiki of a project very similar to this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poketo) to ensure I was contributing in a fair way. Let me know if it is OK (as I'm pretty new to this). Maybe you can edit it? VikArrieta (talk) 03:19, 28 May 2012 (UTC)

BLPPROD expirations

By the way, I have a bot going and poking BLPPRODed articles daily, so expirations should show up in the appropriate expiration categories within 24 hours or so of true expiration. I don't think that was related to the editor yanking the BLPPROD, I think that was just a policy error on her or his part, and an error on my part for not catching it and reverting his removal of the tag. --joe deckertalk to me 19:26, 31 May 2012 (UTC)

Multidimensional Science AfD

Hello, AllyD, thank you for your comment. The theory of elastic membrane is in agreement with modern physics, and gives us true multidimensional description of the reality. The theory gives explanation of human perception - so called hard problem of consciousness. Science must be multidimensional and structures describing our Universe also must be multidimensional. For multidimensional geometry and multidimensional physics see the links: http://vixra.org/pdf/1207.0036v1.pdf and http://vixra.org/pdf/1111.0092v1.pdf The theory represents a new scientific paradigm different from the existing one, proposed by Decartes, because the old one cannot explain the nature of the living world. Thank you for discussion.Alex21cen. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alex21cen (talkcontribs) 11:00, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

  • Wikipedia is not a place for original research: WP:NOR. AllyD (talk) 11:16, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

Dear AllyD, the theory has been published and discussed by leading scientists at three international conferences: Albert Einstein Century International conference in Paris (2005), Congress of History of Science and Technology in Budapest (2009), Toward a Science of Consciousness 2011 International Conference in Stockholm and had increasing number of supporters. This is just another confirmation of multidimensionality of most scientific theories. The theory is based on the ideas of Albert Einstein and Sir Roger Penrose. I think this page will be very important, progressive and useful for all wikipedians. This isn't an original research, but the product of collective efforts of many scientists. For this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=MUSA%27s_Trio&pe=1& Please do not delete any source from facebook or video links, as those ARE official and only reference from the artist up to this moment. I may add more magazine source too if you request. KKBOX is more or less the LARGEST online music base in Chinese-Asia area so that is a reliable source too. • Facebook is not a reliable source, Youtube is not a reliable source; Wikipedia is not a reliable source. KKBox I don't know, so I didn't delete it as a pseudo-reference in the article, but it too may need evaluation: size does not automatically denote notability, the question would be whether the content there is reputably-sourced. Bodens Page Edit

Hi Ally, Just wondering if you could explain why the Bodens page has been put up for deletion, I see no reason why it is less valid than say Chickenshed which seems to be regarded as a good article?

I'm not Ally (just passing through...), but to me it reads as advertising. Also, there's only the one reference (Watford Observer) that's any use at all - the others look to fail WP:RS (reliable independent sources that aren't mere mentions, profiles, directories etc). Peridon (talk) 18:15, 11 August 2012 (UTC)
I'd advise rereading the Chickenshed article. I've heard of Chickenshed, and I live nowhere near London. The article is quite different, and the referencing, while not perfect, has some good ones. Two MBE's don't do them any harm, either... To me, Bodens means a company dealing in woodshavings and pet things. Peridon (talk) 18:22, 11 August 2012 (UTC)

  • I see you've gone ahead and done that. I would have suggested taking it to the Articles for Creation process; for one thing, there are a lot of PHP associated packages going through Articles for Deletion at the moment on grounds of non-notability. And, in the interests of transparency, it would be good if you add something to the Talk page to specify your association with PhpFox? AllyD (talk) 20:31, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

Can you help me understand exactly how many man-hours a project needs to have before it's notable enough?

Should I provide a list of other projects that do have pages that are far less impactive than Pry?

Do you know what Pry is, btw?

Thanks. —☈ (I'm PvtKing — I managed to not be logged in somehow.)

  • Like all other Wikipedia articles, this one needs to have reliable 3rd party references that demonstrate it meets the notability criteria, in this case, the WP:NSOFT criteria. (The fact that there are other articles on Wikipedia that are deficient - as there are - is not really a useful argument, asone has to start from somewhere. AllyD (talk) 21:11, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
    • I don't think that putting deletion tags on pages within a few hours of their creation is necessary (especially for something like Pry, which obviously dominates Google results, and for obvious reasons if you look into it in any depth). This level of strictness is nowhere near the spirit of Ward's wiki. PvtKing (talk) 16:20, 16 August 2012 (UTC)

??

Hi, a few points:

Firstly, it was a typo, I meant Citizen Khan. Secondly, I created the 'Citizen Kahn' page before the 'Khan' one so don't imply in your text that I deliberately created the article knowing that a proper one existed as I created first.

Mythical Curse (talk) 17:18, 28 August 2012 (UTC).

Hi, I understand that, the issue I have is this bit: 'the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page'. Whilst I respect that I made a mistake with spelling, when I created the page, it was the only page relating to the TV show. I didn't create the page knowing there was already a Citizen Khan page, I created it because no-one else had and I felt that if I created one, other editors might then help and improve the article as has been the case with other articles that I have created. Kind regards, Mythical Curse (talk) 14:22, 29 August 2012 (UTC).
