Thomas Meehan was the commanding officer during the airborne mission of the "Band of Brothers" on D-Day. He died during the invasion when his plane took a direct hit. He is portrayed in the series, Band of Brothers, as the officer who led them up to and the night of the invasion. Notability is not garnered by being in a specific place at a specific time; nor is it garnered by being appointed to a certain position. It is regrettable that Meehan did not live to perform some act that would have made him notable, but he did not. The same applies to thousands of others who died in World War II and other wars. Being featured in a TV mini-series for less than one minute does not make one notable.--Jim in GeorgiaContribsTalk 18:07, 12 November 2012 (UTC)
I would strongly disagree with any action to delete this entry and reject what seems like a disdainful reference to Meehan's service, and his portrayal in the Band of Brothers miniseries. Serving as the commanding officer of what Wikipedia itself describes as, "one of the best-known companies in the United States Army" itself confers an inarguable degree of notability, regardless of the brevity of the subject's life and irrespective of the subjects fame or notoriety in comparison to others who've held the same position, and are decried notable for it. While this entry could certainly use additional detail and sourcing, to suggest that it somehow is not worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia is a sniffy sentiment that I cannot support. Notability for Wikipedia is determined by having significant coverage in reliable sources. Meehan's brief contribution to the war effort and before the period for which the Company is chiefly known will probably mitigate against him in that respect. As to detail, what more is there to say that does not become detail for details sake rather than for the benefit of the reader. Wikipedia is a form of encyclopaedia not a collection of extensive biographical articles. GraemeLeggett (talk) 21:50, 14 November 2012 (UTC)
I'm concerned that citing DeAngelis is not in keeping with WP:RS. There is no authority indicated for the ribbons and medals displayed and it includes the insignia of the First Allied Airborne Army, an organization that was not activated until Meehan (again, sadly) was KIA.--Jim in GeorgiaContribsTalk 23:35, 14 November 2012 (UTC)
