Karina Longworth

You put citation tags on Karina Longworth within three minutes of its creation. Was this done by a bot or something? If there is something wrong with the citations, please tell me what it is, and I will try to remedy it. By the way, now that the article is in Wikipedia, I am working on establishing its notability (I already have lots of notes for doing this). I always wait to do this until an article is actually created--otherwise there could be links in other articles that link to a non-existant page. Thank you for your time--Foobarnix (talk) 00:32, 2 March 2011 (UTC)

Assistance on rewrite of Michael Gruneberg page

I've had the page I created on Michael Gruneberg deleted twice. I've rewritten it and am trying again, although not publicly. Would you mind taking a look at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Bobg508/Michael_Gruneberg and give me some advice on what I need to do so that it won't get deleted again? Thanks. Notability of Karina Longworth

When I did not get any response to my previous request to you for advice on how to establish notability of this article, I reviewed the article, and in good faith removed the notability tag which you had placed on it. I was particularly puzzled as to how anyone could have established that the article lacked notability when it had only existed for exactly 13 minutes when you placed the tag. When you did not respond to my first request for clarification, I quite honestly doubted whether you had read the article.

You have again placed the notability tag on this article.

I have reviewed the page Wikipedia:Notability (people) and, using the information written there, have outlined below my reasons for believing that the criteria are satisfied. Please let me know where my reasoning is incorrect and what else I can do to establish notability. I worked very hard on researching this article.

Notablility criteria for Karina Longworth

She has been the subject of multiple published secondary sources which are reliable, intellectually independent of each other and independent of the subject.

  • These would including the Huffington Post, the New York Times, and Variety. These are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject.
  • She has appeared in a widely distributed documentary film representing the online film critic's viewpoint.
  • She is extensively covered in online media such as filmfocus.com and indieWIRE (indieWIRE is probably not entirely independent of the subject, but neither is it controlled by her).

The person is regarded as an important figure or is widely cited by peers or successors.

  • There are 14 existing links to Karina Longworth in Wikipedia.
  • Longworth was one of the founders and a former editor of the film blog Cinematical, a film news and discussion blog now owned by AOL.. A Google check shows that there are up to 542 mentions of Cinematical in Wikipedia and refererences to Cinematical in the mainstream press are too numerous to mention. There really should be a Wikipedia article on Cinematical. Its notability would be very easy to establish.
  • Longworth was a former editor of SpoutBlog, another daily film blog now owned by indieWIRE. There are only a dozen or so mentions of SpoutBlog in Wikipedia, but again, mentions of this film blog in the mainstream press are very numerous.

This person has made a widely recognized contribution that is part of the enduring historical record in his or her specific field.

  • She wrote a book, The Portable SpoutBlog ISBN 1448695716 , which is listed at Amazon, at Internet Book Database online database, at aNobii personal library catalog, at Goodreads personal library catalog (with a capsule review), and numerous other book sources. This book provides a valuable historical resource of the many films it covers.
  • Longworth has a large fan base or a significant "cult" following of her film blog Vidiocracy.com. (If necessary, I can produce figures of how large her fan base is.) Vidiocracy provides an important historical record of the many films and independent films that Longworth has reviewed.
  • Longworth is a frequent contributor to rottentomatoes.com, a resource widely consulted by filmgoers, and another important historical record of films and film criticism.
  • Longworth has contributed articles to many mainstream national magazines as mentioned in article.
Response – I shall address your comments. First I'll ignore your fluff about not reading the article and the time it took to mark the article as non-notable. They really serve no purpose in a constructive discussion.
  • "She has been the subject of multiple published secondary sources which are reliable, intellectually independent of each other and independent of the subject." I do not see where she has been a subject of any of the article you mentioned. The HP bio was I assume written by her and therefore not a secondary source. Appearing in a documentary film is a primary source. I see no evidence of extensive coverage of her in the media.
  • "The person is regarded as an important figure or is widely cited by peers or successors." Links to/from Wikipedia articles are hardly independent or in any way an indication of wide-coverage. Cinematical may be notable, but since notability is not inherited, unless there are numerous "non-trivial" articles about her, this does not prove her notability. Additionally, I see nothing in the article that supports her involvement with Cinematical. Supports is the important word here. That support needs to meet the criteria in WP:RS. "Being a former editor of SpoutBlog, is again not notable. I suggest you re-read WP:BIO and concentrate on meeting the criteria using [[WP:RS|Reliable sources}}
  • This person has made a widely recognized contribution that is part of the enduring historical record in his or her specific field. Rather than address each item individually, I just say none of these are an "enduring historical record" nor are they a widely recognized contribution.
I again suggest you re-read WP:BIO and concentrate meeting the criteria using reliable sources. ttonyb (talk) 21:07, 3 March 2011 (UTC)
Hi Tony, could you please check in at Wikipedia:Editor assistance/Requests#Assistance on Notability criteria and offer some advice. Cheers, Kudpung (talk) 07:10, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

A television personalty does not deserve a wikipedia page? She is being google'ed everyday and has an enormous fan base that is still growing. Not only is she a television personality but she is also the Exec. producer and Creator of the television show. Also, why do you keep deleting her connection to mogul Sean "P. Diddy Combs? He owns the venue that her show is filmed in....and he endorses her and the show as well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Atlantatv (talkcontribs) 14:05, 8 March 2011 (UTC)

Wikipedia notability is based on providing verifiable, independent, reliable sources, not what article subject does for a living. There does not seem to be adequate reliable sources to support nobility. ttonyb (talk) 00:29, 9 March 2011 (UTC)
Hey, her tv show was on the barack obama website. The president's website is sort of a big deal I think. And I saw her on TIVO also. just my two cents. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.22.230.135 (talk) 00:17, 9 March 2011 (UTC)
Hey, I would suggest providing a reference on the article to the White House website page that specifically references her show. BTW - appearing on TIVO does not provide notability. ttonyb (talk) 00:29, 9 March 2011 (UTC)

Probably best to leave it templated and let some other editor take it to AfD if they ever do. The BLP project is also very good at assessing cases like this and they will have it on their watchlists. What do you think? --Kudpung (talk) 02:05, 12 March 2011 (UTC)

Ted Turner

Ttonyb,

I am not engaging in an editing war. I have used the article's talk page. I forgot to sign it and then corrected that mistake as soon as I noticed the problem. I am following the rules and I have done nothing wrong in my editing of the article. I do not intend to fight with anybody and I am perfectly willing to collaborate, as is expected of the users. However, I will not distort the truth. Political correctness is not truth. Political correctness may allow males to be collectively blamed for an action but not females or black people or gay people. Political correctness may suggest that Ted Turner's statement was not misandry. But the standards of political correctness are not standards that define the information contained in wikipedia.Maumau1000 (talk) 03:33, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

I care nothing about PC and yes you are engaged in an WP:WAR. BTW - Wikipedia is not about truth, it is about verifiability. ttonyb (talk) 03:45, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
After doing some research on wikipedia policy, I've concluded that we are both wrong. Wikipedia is not about truth. But for matters like this, which do not depend on documented facts, it is not about verifiability. It is a majority rules situation, even if the majority is wrong.Maumau1000 (talk) 16:25, 12 March 2011 (UTC)

Fanita English

Only today i realized that you have proposed Fanita English article for deletion. I am not sure really why you removed it. I am a scholar which i learned about her in a training kept sometimes in February. Apparenly she is a well knowns transactional analyst (at least in Germany from where the trainer was - the vice president of the German TA association). In fact the small article was a translation and addaptation of an already existing German article. Can you doublecheck this situation and help me recover the article? many thanks Catalin Bogdan (talk) 07:26, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

Salsa (New York Style) Flagged for Speedy Deletion

Hi, you flagged the Salsa (New York Style) article for speedy deletion because it supposedly violated the copyrights of two external websites. I have protested this because I believe the two external websites actually plagiarized content from Wikipedia, not the other way around. I have made my case with evidence on the talk page for the article. Thank you for your time, Cold Salsero (talk) 02:46, 18 March 2011 (UTC)

Having Trouble with Searching Article Archives, May I Receive Help?

Hi Ttonyb1, I was trying to create an archive page for the Talk:Salsa (dance) discussions, and I added some search boxes for the archives, but none of the links they generate seem to actually go to the archives. Is there something obvious that I'm doing wrong? Is there a forum or notice board or something on Wikipedia where I may receive more help on this sort of thing? Thanks, Cold Salsero (talk) 21:55, 18 March 2011 (UTC)

Where is the code/page you are using? ttonyb (talk) 22:16, 18 March 2011 (UTC)
I looked at [1] and the search seems to work for this page. ttonyb (talk) 22:20, 18 March 2011 (UTC)
Take a look at [2]. ttonyb (talk) 22:30, 18 March 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for taking a look, but I still think there is a problem. If you search for "Picture", you should get 1 result for it in the search. But if you click on that link, you don't go to the archive, you go back to the main talk page where the topic isn't there anymore. Yet if you check the archive, the discussion is indeed in there.
Should I seek further help on an Administrator or Editor, or Technical notice boards? Cold Salsero (talk) 00:18, 19 March 2011 (UTC)
Try Wikipedia:Editor assistance/Requests or Wikipedia:Help desk. ttonyb (talk) 02:25, 19 March 2011 (UTC)
Ok, thanks! Cold Salsero (talk) 02:42, 19 March 2011 (UTC)
Hey, the issue resolved itself, turns out that it takes a while for the archives to get updated in the search index, Help:Searching#Delay_in_updating_the_search_index. The search box works just fine now, thanks for all your help! Cold Salsero (talk) 10:27, 19 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi Tony, I've declined your A7 nomination of the above page because it credibly asserts notability, although I do agree that it probably shouldn't stay (I can't recall the link to the page explaining this, but it's something about being famous for a one-time occurrence, which is the case here). Speedy deletion contested: Jens Bergensten

Hello Ttonyb1, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I contested the speedy deletion of Jens Bergensten, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: The article makes a credible assertion of importance or significance, sufficient to pass A7. Dear Brother Tony,

I am very disappointed due to this act of vandalism on my user page, after the help of User:JamesBWatsonyour who semi protected my user page I was very happy and satisfied that now I can write and edit Wikipedia articles but few days ago some one vandalized my user page again I want to report this user User:Sajjadhunzai to be deleted as he insulted me by typing given below comments on my main user page due to these comments few people in my social circle insulted me I was never encourage to write for Wikipedia but still i keep writing for Wiki but these comments honestly made me grief, I am too sad honestly therefore I would like to request with you to BLOCK this user because if he can leave these comments on my main user page he can do this with everyone and please Full protect my page please so I and Admins only can edit my user page because I love this place and I am Wikipedia addicted now he insulted and disrespect me with given below comments which he wrote on my user name kindly tell me IS it good?

Redacted insult to Faizanalivarya

I will be very helpful to you if you help me to protect my own page which is my property and honestly help me in this major concern because it’s not only my insult but also insult of all wikipedians. Yours Truly, Wikipedian --Faizanalivarya (talk) 03:01, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

First of all, my apologies that you have had to put up with the childish actions of vandals. Unfortunately, as there are in the world, there are people that feel vandalizing other user's pages is acceptable behavior. This type of vandalism is not acceptable by any Wikipedia standard.
I am not an Admin, so I cannot ban a user or provide protection for your user pages. I have warned the user that vandalism is not acceptable; however, I would suggest you report the user to WP:AIV if the vandalism continues. You may also want to request your user pages be protected for a short period; however, this would not stop a autoconfirmed user from vandalizing the pages.
There will always be disagreeable people to deal with and this is just but one more inconvenience in our daily life. In the greater scheme of things it is a minor annoyance. My best to you. ttonyb (talk) 03:29, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

Shalom Show on tv

Dear Ttonyb1, I'm sorry to bother you yet again. I just got back from visiting my ailing mother, but would like to get back to addressing remaining problems with my article. I do not know how to provide References. Since my last attempt at providing more information, The Shalom Show, which features in depth interviews, also with politicians from left and right, just had Speaker Newt Gingrich on the show. His organization features it on their website www.newt.org http://www.newt.org/video/newt-shalom-show-israel-obamacare-education-and-more Would this and the Speaker’s team serve as a reference? Upon Googling the Shalom Show one finds many articles, including Fox News: http://nation.foxnews.com/religion/2011/02/03/rep-allen-west-says-muslim-congressman-represents-antithesis-america-s-founding- I apologize also that I probably am not communicating with you the correct way. As mentioned, I wish this was as user-friendly as email. About References: I know many of the credible and famous people who have appeared on the show could serve as references, if they are acceptable pursuant to Wikipedia guidelines. Some names appear in the article and their names are hyperlinked to their organizations; These include recent guests on The Shalom Show including Speaker Newt Gingrich, Senior Pastor Bob Coy of the Calvary Chapel, Dr. Abraham S. Fischler, Congressman Allen West, and Stan Chesley. You wrote to me: If I have a good secondary reference, I should send it to you and you will add it to the article; Could Dr. Abraham Fischler, the President Emeritus of Nova Southeastern University serve as a secondary reference source? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abraham_S._Fischler He would be glad to. How do I submit him to Wikipedia as a secondary reference source? Could YouTube serve as a reference? http://www.youtube.com/user/SHALOMshowTV Right now there is quite a lot of interest and media coverage of the Shalom Show: http://www.therightscoop.com/allen-west-speaks-truth-on-islam-israel in the United Kingdom http://focusuk.wordpress.com/2011/01/26/alan-west-on-the-shalom-show http://www.jltv.tv/profile.php?user=ShalomShow2010 I know there were other articles published about this show. The article is not in danger of deletion. If you wish to have the tags removed, you should add reliable sources to the article. Once those references are added the tags will be removed. ttonyb (talk) 23:37, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

It is an attack page. Look at the references. He has not been convicted. He was arrested, out on bail, and awaiting trial. Until the conviction, this falls under WP:NOTNEWS. Even after the conviction, this person would not pass WP:NOTABILITY standards. You might also want to look at WP:BLP1E. It applies here. --Manway 06:48, 26 March 2011 (UTC)

This isn't what we usually mean by an attack page. This seems to be written neutrally and not just to disparage the subject and has media that supports the allegations. Given that I nominated the article for PROD, then AfD using exactly the reasons you noted above, I probably do not need to review the items. However, I suggest you review WP:ATTACK. ttonyb (talk) 15:29, 26 March 2011 (UTC)
Thank you for the discussion. It's a pleasure discussing rationally. Just FYI, the administrator who did delete it as a result of the PROD did so under G10 - Attack Page or negative unsourced BLP. Take care. Regards, --Manway 19:51, 26 March 2011 (UTC)

I have looked the quality of the references and they do not support the removal of the tags. I have added back the ref improve tags as well. Most of the references do not mention the individual and the few that do are local in nature. ttonyb (talk) 15:32, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for your help. From the note above, it seems that you have two concerns about the Mario F Ferri page. The first concern is that the citations, on first blush, do not specifically refernce Mr. Ferri. The second concern is that the the references are local in nature. To address the first concern I have updated the references to provide a more specific reference. The poll result citations now directly link to the poll results which specifically list Mr. Ferri's electoral results; as such, all the references now specifically mention the individual. In regards to the second concern, the references cite:
1. Election results form the City of Vaughan Website - these are inherently local in nature, but the only repository for electoral results in the city of vaughan and approved as a reference to many wiki pages including, the Vaughan municipal election, 2000 page;
2. The National Post, The Toronto Star, Toronto Sun, and The Vaughan Citizen news articles - three of these newspapers (The National Post, The Toronto Star, & Toronto Sun) are among the most circulated newspapers in canada;
3. Immigration Records - these are archives published by the Government of Canada, a reliable and national source; and,
4. Websites for local community organizations - again, these are inherently local in nature, but the only repository for this type of information.
From reading your objections to the article, it also seems that you are taking the position that the article is a biograpgy on someone who is not notable. Please confrim if this is your assertion. I have reviewed the notability rules and Mr. Ferri certainty qualifies as notable because of the following, among other things:
1. Ferri has received the Gonernor General's 125th Anniversary Commemorative Medal, and several other well-known and significant awards and/or honors; and,
2. Ferri is a "Major local political figure who has received significant press coverage".
I hope these changes suffice and that you are willing to remove the warnings and deletion request asap.
Again, thanks for your help! Polyscigrad (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 06:11, 30 March 2011 (UTC).
I have again reviewed the references. There is only one that fits the definition of a secondary source. Unfortunately the article is not enough to support notability. The rest are either simple listings of the individual or are passing mentions of the individual. The tags should stay until the references are improved. I suggest you review WP:RS and WP:PSTS for a discussion on what is needed to support an article.
I do not believe the article meets the criteria for notability as defined in WP:BIO or WP:POLITICIAN. I cannot find any reference to support the assertion that he won "Governor General's 125th Anniversary Commemorative Medal" or that it is a significant award. I also do not see any evidence the individual has received significant press coverage. The coverage listed in the article is minimal at best. ttonyb (talk) 18:37, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
The "Governor General's 125th Anniversary Commemorative Medal was awared to apporximately 42,000 highly esteemed Canadians, from all walks of life, from every region of Canada, from varied ethno-cultural backgrounds and from a multitude of disciplines." see http://www.veterans.gc.ca/eng/sub.cfm?source=collections/cmdp/mainmenu/group10/accm. Are you suggesting he didn't win the award, that seems like complete conjecture, unless of course you have anything that says he didn't? here is a cached version of Ferri's bio on the City of Vaughan website that lists him as the award recipient http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:6MuvC47JkmEJ:www.city.vaughan.on.ca/vaughan/council/regional/reg_councillor_ferri_awards.cfm+%22125th+Anniversary+Commemorative+Medal%22+ferri&cd=4&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=ca&client=firefox-a&source=www.google.ca
for the Jubilee award, please see http://archive.gg.ca/honours/medals/hon04-qegj_e.asp. he is listed as a recipient at http://www.gg.ca/honours.aspx?q=ferri&t=6&p=&c=&pg=1&types=6 and http://www.gg.ca/honour.aspx?id=17442&t=6&ln=Ferri — Preceding unsigned comment added by Polyscigrad (talkcontribs) 23:42, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the response. I am not sure that the award is significant. I understand you believe it is, but I have no understanding of its importance. Being awarded to 42K others does not make it too unique. I did not suggest that he did not win the awards, only there is no evidence in the article to support it. Remember, Wikipedia is not about truth, but about verifiability and all claims such as that should be supported in the article. The burden of proof rests with the author of the article. If no other references are added to the article I may nominate the article for AfD. ttonyb (talk) 00:06, 31 March 2011 (UTC)
According to your comments above, it seems as though your main concern with the notability of this article is the notability of the 125th commemorative medal and the jubilee award. I understand your concerns since they are not well publicized. You may wish to search those awards on wikipedia; both awards have had articles on wikipedia since 2005. Those articles may assist your understanding of the importance and notability of the awards since, if thay are not notable awards, they would not have articles on wikipedia for 5+ years. In fact, I can't envision greater proof that they are notable awards as defined by the rules of wikipedia then that fact. Also, I have contacted Mr. Ferri to obtain a copy of the 125th award. Once I receive it, I will post the scanned image of the award with his name on it to prove that he was awarded it.
Does this satisfy you that the awards are notable and that Ferri is worthy of an article on wikipedia?
Again, I appreciate your vigor in ensuring that wikipedia is used properly and in accordance with its unique, precedent setting, and well advised rules. I hope I have persuaded you that Ferri is notable and worthy of a bio on wikipedia. Thanks again. Polyscigrad (talk) 04:38, 31 March 2011 (UTC)

Multiple citations have been added, concerning business and environmental information, can the warning be removed? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Njsh2011 (talkcontribs) 15:22, 29 March 2011 (UTC)

Done... ttonyb (talk) 15:43, 29 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi, Just reviewing the amends you've to my page. You've removed my copywriting awards, nomination as you said they were for media and not given to me individually. This is the nature of advertising awards, they are given to the project as a whole with individual credits. I am only laying claim to the copywriting portion. Please reinstate. You've also stated on another edit that I wasn't nominated for the reward, I'm not lying! Which award does this refer to. Finally you've said I still don't have enough references. I currently have 15. How many is sufficient and why are these not deemed legitimate? Thanks Kate —Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.255.32.27 (talk) 02:25, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

I reinstated one of the copywriter awards with a slight edit to the text. The other I did not, the reference did not even mention Toon. As far as the number of references, the issue is not quantity, but rather quality. The references in some cases are no more than brief mentions of the individual. Articles must be supported by secondary sources. Take a look at reliable sources. ttonyb (talk) 02:38, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
Yes you're right, oh well looks like it will be deleted then. Thanks anyway. I'll come back when I'm more famous! Thanks, Kate — Preceding unsigned comment added by Katetoon (talkcontribs) 02:43, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
Although I will add that I don't see how my profile differs greatly to this one: Van Badham — Preceding unsigned comment added by Katetoon (talkcontribs) 02:46, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
Don't give up yet. Someone may come along and disagree or perhaps finds some references that fit the bill. As far as the other article, I have not looked at it; however, it may well be it does not meet the criteria for inclusion.

Thanks Tony :-) Yes re other article all the references go to 404 errors. Fingers crossed someone disagrees or I get a book publishing deal in the next week! Thanks again. K — Preceding unsigned comment added by Katetoon (talkcontribs) 03:07, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

Menlo Park and NWA's Fuck Tha Police

Just wanted to ping you as I noticed you removed my addition of NWA's 'Fuck tha Police' from the Menlo Park, California entry. I appreciate this may have appeared to be vandalism, but this track was actually recorded in Menlo Park in 1988 as verifiable by the fact box on the track's Wikipedia page and I believe it to be one of the cultural/musical highlights of the town from the past 25-30 years. It's worth pointing out that the Menlo Park entry is rather void of cultural/arts information and as such I look forward to reinstating the entry if there is no objection - I am pinging to you let you know I have started a discussion on this here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Menlo_Park,_California#NWA_recording_of_.22Fuck_tha_police.22 Thanks! 70.36.139.107 (talk) 03:09, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up. I have to admit I did not think it to be a major event, but if you can get some agreement then go for it. I will not be opposing your request. My best to you. ttonyb (talk) 03:47, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
