Replaceable fair use Image:Sculley-interview.jpg edit

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Sculley-interview.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Garion96 (talk) 10:22, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

According to the criteria it does not has to possible 'right now to replace an image by a free image, the text is "could be created". An image "could be created" for a public figure who appears in public. Eventually someone at flickr might come up with a free image, you could ask copyright holders for releasing an image under a free license etc etc. Garion96 (talk) 11:24, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

Literature in the Hoysala Empire edit

Hi Wackymacs, how are you. Sandy Georgia forwarded your name to me when I was looking out for experienced copy editors to help me. The above article has gone through a thorough PR (Ruhrfish, Redtigerxyz), Mos check (Epbr123), image clearence (ЭLСОВВОLД) and general copy edits (Michael Devore). I need one solid round of copy edits to cap it all. I hope you are free to help me, something I would really appreciate. thanks, Dineshkannambadi (talk) 20:42, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

DeLorean edit

John DeLorean did not impress me in any way except as a hustler who took advantage of people due to his " glorious reputation?" and so-called charisma. Take a look at "Just wondering and other Corrections Open for Discussion" also on the discussion page. This too brings up questions about Delorean's ethics and self-created public image from those who knew him.Kazuba (talk) 16:26, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

I originally asked Finetooth to do this, but he respectfully declined and consulted me to WP:PRV. Since you have quite a few FAs and GAs to your name and you've already dealt with U.S. Route 491, could you take a look and see what's wrong in the prose in Utah State Route 181? I'll understand if you don't want to, I've learned roads are a very tedious subject :) CL — 01:59, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice edit

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Copyediting edit

You come recommended to me for a a copy edit request. I recently wrote and posted U.S. Route 41 in Michigan, which was initially rated as B-Class. I'd like to take it to GAN (and eventually FAC) but I know it could use a second set of eyes for a copy edit. If you are willing, could you copy edit it, or recommend someone else who might? Orphaned non-free media (Image:AppleCare.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:AppleCare.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. >>>Hello. I recently came across this article which you started in 2006. I've added more information and I have added 9 references from books and other sources. I could not find sources for some of the information you added, so I had to remove it. Which sources did you use? — Wackymacs<<<

WRT the article on the Detroit Automobile Company, the source I used primarily was "Young Henry Ford, A Picture History of The First Forty Years" by Sidney Olson, published 1963 by Wayne State University Press, Library of Congress Catalog Card # 63-20162. There is no ISBN #.

This book is the result of the 'archival excavation' of Fair Lane, Henry's private 56-room mansion in Dearborn. The cataloging was headed by Robert Bahmer, Deputy Archiver of the United States. According to the preface, the final tally of Fair Lane was 10,000,000 documents, 250,000 negatives & prints and 10,000 books. No doubt most of the subsequently published data by other authors regarding the early automotive events of Henry Ford can be traced back to this archival cataloging. This was my source for the initial DAC article.

The book is well worth checking into.

I am curious: what with the vast volume of publications & articles on Henry Ford over the years, that you considered you search thorough enough that you "had to remove" what you yourself could not verify. After comparing the 2 versions, I do feel you eliminated some pertinent information to the detriment of the article's quality.

Finally, the final paragraph of the current article >>>The Detroit Automobile Company later became the Cadillac Company under ownership of Henry Leland, who came in subsequently after Ford had left.[8] It was reorganized into the Henry Ford Company on November 20, 1901...<<< is misleading. The DAC was reorganized into the HFC, which was subsequently reorganized again into the Cadillac Motor Car Company, but the text implies the chronological reverse. It needs clarification.

Speedy deletion of Abandonee edit

A tag has been placed on Abandonee requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, "See also" section, book reference, category tag, template tag, interwiki link, rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Paranormal Skeptic (talk) 15:28, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Wackymacs it's time you went back to Steve Jobs edit

There is a lot of nonsense going on with the Steve Jobs site. And incidentally Fowler's Modern English Usage (Oxford University Press) says that the possessive case for a name ending in "s" (like Jobs)can be either Jobs' eg Jobs' house, or Jobs's eg Jobs's house. Both are correct.

You have covered many errors in your archives. As you know, people are often too lazy to use the archives. All the current questions on the Jobs discussion board are covered in his archives. Including the fact that the sister of Joan Baez, Mimi Farina, died of the same cancer that Jobs is reported to have.

Also the fact that the names of his young children were removed when some idiot published the name and address of his then 11 year old daughter's school - a highly dangerous and stupid action.

Come on Wackymacs. You are needed. wallnut

Userbox for GA reviews edit

The userbox {{User Good Articles reviewed}} has been updated so that it can now link to a page in your user subspace where you keep track of all your GA reviews, if you have such a page. This can be done by adding a | and then the name of your user subpage (or subsection of your regular user page) wherever you have the template called. For example, on my user page I am using

{{User Good Articles reviewed|6|User:Rjanag/GA reviews}}

which displays as

This user has reviewed 6 Good Article nominations on Wikipedia.

There is more information on how to do this at Template:User Good Articles reviewed.

Note: If you are not interested in doing this, you don't have to do anything; the template will still work for you exactly as it does now.

CSD nomination of Susan Barnes (computing) edit

A tag has been placed on Susan Barnes (computing) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. magnius (talk) 14:43, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Articles for deletion nomination of AppleCare edit

I have nominated AppleCare, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/AppleCare. Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. JasonHockeyGuy (talk) 06:13, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

  • Please note that the nomination for deletion was not actually completed, so as of this writing, the article is not up for deletion. However, it could be nominated again, so please be aware of that possibility. If Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/AppleCare is a blue link rather than a red link, that means the article has been nominated again. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 07:57, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:Battirvillage.jpg edit

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Battirvillage.jpg.

Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 16:04, 25 September 2009 (UTC)

NowCommons: File:Bonmarchestore.jpg edit

File:Bonmarchestore.jpg is now available on Wikimedia Commons as Commons:File:Le Bon Marché department store in Paris 1867.jpg. This is a repository of free media that can be used on all Wikimedia wikis. The image will be deleted from Wikipedia, but this doesn't mean it can't be used anymore. You can embed an image uploaded to Commons like you would an image uploaded to Wikipedia, in this case: [[File:Le Bon Marché department store in Paris 1867.jpg]]. Note that this is an automated message to inform you about the move. This bot did not copy the image itself. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 08:14, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Senate michigan.jpg edit

A tag has been placed on File:Senate michigan.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free image with a clearly invalid licensing tag; or it otherwise fails some part of the non-free content criteria.

If you can find a valid tag that expresses why the image can be used under the fair use guidelines, please replace the current tag with that tag. If no such tag exists, please add the {{non-free fair use in|article name that the image is used in}} tag, along with a brief explanation of why this constitutes fair use of the image. If the image has been deleted, you can re-upload it, but please ensure you place the correct tag on it.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Brazil edit

Hello, Wackymacs! I am currently working on the article about Brazil along with other editors. We have almost completely remade it from scratch. I noticed that you were one of the editors who were against the article's assessment to featured status. I was wondering if you could take a look in it, but not a serious overly detailed look because we are not finished yet. Just a quick look to see if we are going into the right direction. Thank you very much and regards, --Lecen (talk) 03:23, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

Unreferenced BLPs edit

Hello Wackymacs! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 2 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 950 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

  1. George McMahon (actor) - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL
  2. Rod Canion - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Grab some glory, and a barnstar edit

Hi, I'd like to invite you to participate in the Guild of Copy Editors July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. In May, about 30 editors helped remove the {{copyedit}} tag from 1175 articles. The backlog is still over 7500 articles, and extends back to the beginning of 2008! We really need your help to reduce it. Copyediting just a couple articles can qualify you for a barnstar. Serious copyeditors can win prestigious and exclusive rewards. See the event page for more information. And thanks for your consideration. ɳorɑfʈ Talk! 15:40, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Crissy Moran and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to address the nominator's concerns but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 06:15, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

GOCE Backlog Elimination Drive Wrap-up edit

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. Thanks to all who participated in the drive! Over 100 editors—including Jimbo Wales—signed up this time (nearly triple the participants of the May drive). This benefited the Guild as well as the articles in need of copy editing. You can see from the comparison graphs that we increased the number of completed copyedits substantially. Unfortunately, we were not able to meet our goal of completely wiping out 2008 from the queue. We also were not able to reduce the backlog to less than 6,000 articles. We suspect people were busy with real life summertime things, at least in the northern hemisphere! We were able to remove the months of January, February, March, April, and May from the backlog, and we almost wiped out the month of June. We reduced the backlog by 1,289 articles (17%), so all in all it was a very successful drive, and we will be holding another event soon. We'll come up with some new ideas to try to keep things fresh and interesting. Keep up the good work, everybody!

Stats
If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. If you edited in the May 2010 GOCE Backlog Elimination Drive, your word totals are cumulative for barnstars (not the leaderboard). Over the course of the next week or two, we will be handing out the barnstars.

Proposed deletion of Logic Spectacles edit

The article Logic Spectacles has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unsourced since 2006, unedited since 2007, micro stub.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. November 2010 backlog elimination drive update edit

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive!

GOCE November 2010 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

We have reached the midway point in our backlog elimination drive, so here is an update.

Participation report — The November drive has 53 participants at this point. We had 77 participants in the September drive. In July, 95 people signed up for the drive, and in May we had 36. If you are not participating, it is not too late to join!

Progress report — The drive is quite successful so far, as we have already almost reached our target of a 10% reduction in the number of articles in the backlog. We are doing very well at keeping our Requests page clear, as those articles count double for word count for this drive.

Please keep in mind the possibility of removing other tags when you are finished with an article. If the article no longer needs {{cleanup}}, {{wikify}}, or other similar maintenance tags, please remove them, as this will make the tasks of other WikiProjects easier to complete. Thanks very much for participating in the Drive, and see you at the finish line!

File source problem with File:Durganvillage.jpg edit

Thank you for uploading File:Durganvillage.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 14:37, 18 November 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 14:37, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Roymasonxanadu.JPG edit

Thank you for uploading File:Roymasonxanadu.JPG. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. SchuminWeb (Talk) 16:54, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

We have reached the end of our fourth backlog elimination drive. Thanks to all who participated.

Stats

GOCE November 2010 backlog elimination drive graphs
  • 58 people signed up for this drive. Of these, 48 people participated in the drive.
  • Although we did not eliminate the months we planned to (January, February, and March 2009; and August, September, and October 2010), we did reduce the backlog by 627 articles (11.2%), which was over our goal of 10%.
  • 49 awards will go out to 33 of 48 participants. Check out the complete list of barnstar winners here.

Barnstars

If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. These roll-over words count as credit towards earning barnstars, except for leaderboard awards. We will be delivering these barnstars within the next couple of weeks.

Our next drive is scheduled for January 2011. In the meantime, please consider helping out at the Wikification drive or any of the other places where help with backlogs is needed.

Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 backlog elimination drive

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 Backlog elimination drive! The drive is halfway over, so here are some mid-drive stats.

Participation

GOCE January 2011 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

So far, 43 people have signed up for this drive. Of these, 25 have participated. If you signed up for the drive but haven't participated yet, it's not too late! Try to copy edit at least a few articles. Remember, if you have rollover words from the last drive, you will lose them if you do not participate in this drive. If you haven't signed up for the drive yet, you can sign up now.

Progress report

We have eliminated two months from the backlog – January and February 2009. One of our goals is to eliminate as many months as possible from the 2009 backlog. Please help us reduce the size of this part of the backlog if you haven't already. Another goal is to reduce the entire backlog by 10%, or by 515 articles. Currently, we have eliminated 375 articles from the queue, so if each participant copy edits four more articles, we will reach that goal.

Thank you for participating in the January 2011 drive. We anticipate it will be another big success!

Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 Backlog elimination drive

Greetings from the January 2011 Backlog elimination drive! We have reached the end of the month and the end of another successful drive; thanks to all who participated.

Statistics
  • 54 people signed up for the year's first Backlog elimination drive. Of these, 40 participated.
  • One of our goals was to reduce the size of the backlog by at least 10%. We managed to reduce the backlog by 633 articles, or about 12%.
  • Another goal was to eliminate as many 2009 months as possible from the queue. We eliminated January, February, March, and April—4 out of 12 months is not bad! In addition, we eliminated 37% of all remaining 2009 articles from the queue.
  • Chaosdruid copy edited Kutch Gurjar Kashtriya for 32,711 words, which is the largest single article completed in one of our drives so far. This article counts as six 5000-K articles, and Chaosdruid wins the "most 5000-K articles" leaderboard category. Way to go! A complete list of individual results is here.

Speedy deletion nomination of FinanceToGo edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on FinanceToGo requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.) or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Alpha Quadrant talk 22:58, 8 March 2011 (UTC)

The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Ten Pound Hammer, his otters and a clue-bat • (Otters want attention) 19:49, 25 March 2011 (UTC)

File source problem with File:Al-Salam-Boccaccio-98.jpg edit

Thank you for uploading File:Al-Salam-Boccaccio-98.jpg.

If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 19:02, 15 April 2011 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Damiens.rf 19:02, 15 April 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Dan'l Lewin edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Dan'l Lewin requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. GOCE drive invitation edit

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors

The latest GOCE backlog elimination drive is under way! It began on 1 July and so far 18 people have signed up to help us reduce the number of articles in need of copyediting.

This drive will give a 50% bonus for articles edited from the GOCE requests page. Although we have cleared the backlog of 2009 articles there are still 3,935 articles needing copyediting and any help, no matter how small, would be appreciated.

We are appealing to all GOCE members, and any other editors who wish to participate, to come and help us reduce the number of articles needing copyediting, as well as the backlog of requests. If you have not signed up yet, why not take a look at the current signatories and help us by adding your name and copyediting a few articles. Barnstars will be given to anyone who edits more than 4,000 words, with special awards for the top 5 in the categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words".

Proposed deletion of Harrods Casino edit

The article Harrods Casino has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Stub of dubious notability, unsourced except for a spam link, and unlikely to improve as the company's now gone under.

Replaceable fair use File:Davidbunnell.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Davidbunnell.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that this media item is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails the first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media item could be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media item is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the file discussion page, write the reason why this media item is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Marcus Qwertyus (talk) 07:29, 2 January 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Davidbunnell.jpg.

You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. File permission problem with File:De-Lorean-Left-allclosed.JPG edit

Thanks for uploading File:De-Lorean-Left-allclosed.JPG, which you've sourced to www.babbtechnology.com. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Marcus Qwertyus (talk) 22:41, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of La Lanterne edit

The article La Lanterne has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Essentially a copy of the Nuttall Encyclopaedia ("Lanterne, La, a stout lamp-iron at the corner of a street in Paris, used by the mob for extemporised executions during the Revolution by Lynch law."), it seems pretty meaningless to me. "Lanterne just means "lantern" in French. Sure they were used for lynchings during the French Revolution, but if the subject is worthy of an encyclopedia article, it should be called use of street lanterns for lynching during the French Revolution.. Actually, an article called "La Lanterne" with "la" and a capital L should probably refer to the 19th century newspaper described in fr:La Lanterne (journal)

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Fordson tractor edit

Hi, this is ancient history. Do you remember making this edit here
Under 1:2:1 Reliability: "The most negative feature was the rear end which had a tendency to flip over backwards if sudden resistance on the drawbar created excessive torque in the transmission.[1] " (I am unable to pick up the reference)

I'm writing to you without amending it because it seems to me there is a small possibility that I am wrong and it is in fact intelligible! But I do not understand what you mean by "excessive torque in the transmission" That statement seems to me to be nonsense.

Do you mind if I replace that section with "The most negative feature was a fundamental design flaw. If a towed implement became immoveable the tractor would flip over backwards because the drawbar's pull came from above the back axle". I am sure it might be better put, please have a try.

What do you think? regards, Eddaido (talk) 06:42, 8 November 2013 (UTC)
