This was the first album by Martin officially released in the US and marks a turning point in Martin's musical style[citation needed], previous albums were mostly ballad driven[citation needed] but A Medio Vivir featured more songs with a slight rock edge[citation needed]. The lead single María is also notable for being the first song by Martin in which musically he displays his Latin roots[citation needed]. The album peaks at #11 on Billboards Top Latin Albums eventually going Gold. A more uptempo remix of the single María is later released with Spanglish lyrics and afro-Caribbean beats. This version of the song was hugely successful in Europe becoming the second best selling single in the world that year[citation needed] and would become indicative of Martin's overall style in later albums.[citation needed]
    • Enrique Iglesias releases his self-titled debut album which becomes instantly successful throughout the Spanish speaking world particularly in Mexico and Argentina and the Latin Market in the US were it peaked at #1 on Billboard's Top Latin Albums fast becoming Platinum. The album is notable for outselling his father Julio Iglesias's album La Carretera[citation needed] which he had brought out earlier in the year. The single "Experiencia Religiosa" would hit the top spot in over eighteen countries and all five singles went to #1 on Billboard's Hot Latin Tracks. The album would eventually sell seven million copies becoming one of the most successful debuts of all time by a Spanish artist. The album would also win a Grammy for best Latin Pop Performance.
