  Colombia

Riots:

  • Around 1 October 2023 (as reported), in Santander de Quilichao municipality, Cauca Department, residents from the El Porvenir neighborhood threatened to attack with sticks and stones a Venezuelans man suspected of having committed a crime. When police officers intervened to protect the man from being harmed, the citizens attacked them with stones. A police officer was injured in his face and legs. There were no fatalities.

Violence against civilians:

  • Around 1 October 2023 (as reported), in the rural area of El Palmarito corregimiento (Cúcuta), Norte de Santander, a woman was killed and her body found in the Las Palmas sector. The woman had been kidnapped for four months by an unidentified armed group. The body was found with multiple gunshot wounds. There is no further information on motives and the perpetrator of the attack but there is presence of armed groups in the area. 1 fatality.
  • On 1 October 2023, in the rural area of Puerto Guzman (Putumayo), a woman was shot and killed by members of the Frontier Command in the Brasilia vereda. There is no further information on the motives of the attack. 1 fatality.
  • On 1 October 2023, in the rural area of Galilea corregimiento (Putumayo), a man was shot and killed by members of the Frontier Command in the Normandia vereda. There is no further information on the motives of the attack. 1 fatality.

  Honduras

Violence against civilians:

  • On 1 October 2023, in El Paraiso, El Paraiso, El Paraíso two unidentified armed men shot and killed two brothers inside their home in the Las Lomitas 2 sector. The men arrived on a motorcycle and forcibly entered the house to kill the victims. The reason for the killing is unknown. 2 fatalities.


  Jamaica

Violence against civilians:

  • On 1 October 2023, in Kingston, Kingston, overnight, unidentified armed men shot and killed a woman and injured a man moving in a motor car on Orange Street. Preliminary investigations suggested a conflict between the Upsetter Gang and the SuperStar gang as cause for the shooting. The deceased was the daughter of a People's National Party (PNP) member and councillor candidate for the Admiral Town division, although no relation between the attack and her father's political affiliation was established. A man was arrested. 1 fatality, 1 injured.

  Mexico

Riots:

  • On 1 October 2023, in Uruapan, Michoacan, public drivers and transporters held a demonstration against the start of work for the construction of the cable bus. The state police intervened and used tear gas. A clash started between participants and the officers. One person resulted injured.

Violence against civilians:

  • On 1 October 2023, in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, three people were shot and killed by three armed men who entered a house in colonia Parajes del Sol. Another three people were also injured. 3 fatalities.
  • Around 1 October 2023 (as reported), in Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, a man was killed and his body was found with his hands tied up their hands and feet tied up and with signs of torture in Colonia Benito Juarez. 1 fatality.
  • Around 1 October 2023 (as reported), in Culiacancito, Sinaloa, a woman was killed and her body was found with signs of violence and wrapped in a tarp, half buried. 1 fatality.
  • Around 1 October 2023 (as reported), in Acapulco de Juarez, Guerrero, a man was killed and his body was found dismembered with a message signed by 'El Comandante 18', a leader of Los Rusos gang in Colonia La Laja. 1 fatality.
  • Around 1 October 2023 (as reported), in Toluca de Lerdo, a man was killed and his body was found wrapped in plastics and blankets in San Nicolas Tolentino. 1 fatality.
  • On 1 October 2023, in Cuernavaca, Morelos, a woman who is a journalist from La Jornada Morelos was attacked by the state police after she took photographs of the police operation that protects the facilities of the Special Prosecutor's Office in the Fight against Corruption. About 10 agents blocked her path and forcibly removed her from the car, put her in the patrol, beat her up and threatened her.
  • On 1 October 2023, in Tepeapulco, Hidalgo, a man was kidnapped by six armed men who entered a house in colonia Javier Rojo Gomez. The victim's whereabouts are unknown.
  • On 1 October 2023, in La Magdalena Tetela Morelos (Acajete), Puebla, a man was shot and killed. According to the authorities, his killing is related to the fights between armed groups. 1 fatality.
  • On 1 October 2023, in Papantla de Olarte, Veracruz, a pregnant woman was shot and killed by unidentified armed individuals in colonia Cerro de Dolores. The victim was the daughter of the former President of the Coxquihui Livestock Union who was also twice a PRI candidate for mayor and was killed in 2007. 1 fatality.
  • Around 1 October 2023 (month of), in Xotla, Veracruz, a man was killed and his body was found in an advanced state of decomposition and burned. 1 fatality.

Battles:

  • On 1 October 2023, in Guadalupe, Nuevo Leon, a man was shot and injured by two armed men in Colonia Tierra Propia. The victim is a drug dealer and had also criminal records.
  • On 1 October 2023, in Zamora de Hidalgo, Michoacan, there was an armed clash between armed individuals and the state police in fraccionamiento Altamira. One officer was injured.
  • On 1 October 2023, in La Ruana, Michoacan, there was an armed clash between the National Guard and military officers against armed men who shot at the police during a patrol. Weapons and a grenade were seized. Casualties unknown.

  Venezuela

Violence against civilians:

  • On 1 October 2023, in Tucupido (Guarico), two suspected members of the Tren del Llano Gang shot and killed the owner of an ice-cream shop, in an attack occurred in those premises in the Los Llanos sector. The suspects arrived at the scene on a motorcycle, dismounted, and shot the woman at least five times. It is thought that the killing is related to extortion threats. There is no further information at this point in time. 1 fatality.
