Alexander Allan Innes Wedderburn → Alexander Wedderburn (psychologist) – this would be a simpler form as per e.g. Vicki Bruce and Gordon Pask etc., and would be clearer as per e.g. Michael Argyle (psychologist) and Oliver James (psychologist), etc. He was never know by his middle names, but something is needed to disambiguate him from the others at Alexander Wedderburn Martinevans123 (talk) 09:01, 12 August 2018 (UTC)

• The headlines on the obituaries for the subject in The Scotsman, The Guardian, The Psychologist and Heriot-Watt University all use the Zander Wedderburn form although The Scotsman did wrap Zander in quotation marks. These suggest that Zander Wedderburn may be the best article location, as the habitual usage? (There is also an existing redirect at Zander Wedderburn.) AllyD (talk) 10:24, 12 August 2018 (UTC)

• Examples such as Bill Clinton and Bobby Charlton look ok as main article names. Judging from these and the advice at WP:NICKNAME, the article should then commence "Alexander Allan Innes Wedderburn (9 May 1935 – 23 February 2017) was..." without intruding the "Zander" contraction, even though it is the article title. • Zander Wedderburn is acceptable, but I also see nothing wrong with the current title, also a common name in sources. Alexander Wedderburn (psychologist) would be a good redirect but not the best title. Station1 (talk) 20:55, 18 August 2018 (UTC)

• That's fine if we want to name people after their obituaries? I guess would much the same as always naming after the name on birth certificate. Martinevans123 (talk) 21:18, 18 August 2018 (UTC)

• Certainly not always. But when disambiguation is necessary, I do think natural disambiguation, such as a full name or nickname, unless truly obscure, is usually preferable to artificial parenthetical disambiguation. Station1 (talk) 21:31, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
