editi think judo and sambo should be included as well as they are considered wrestling as well and both are practiced in the Olympics
Wrestling and Judo are controlled by different IF, hence they are different sports according to the IOC. Furthermore Sambo is not an Olympic sport. Also, please always sign any comment on the talk page.Fox334 (talk) 22:41, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
Why is there no combined medal table?
editI was wondering if there was a specific reason for having a separate medal table for Freestyle and Greco-Roman? After all, Wrestling consist of a single discipline according to the IOC.Fox334 (talk) 22:41, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
Does the medal tables here include the medals of the 2008 Summer Olympics? --MK (talk) 09:53, 21 September 2009 (UTC)
- Don't know if they include, but the title on both at least says until 2004. And of the former question, nothing bad about them being in separate tables; but a combined medal table could be included too. 85.217.37.204 (talk) 12:13, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
- I made the combined table. I think it doesn't contain 2008 results, but after seeing page's history, few updates have done. So these tables needs adding 2008 medals and maybe a little check. Pelmeen10 (talk) 19:44, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
I think USA has much more golds in freestyle. Table should say 49 instead of 25. Moreover, i still can't find why wikipedia does not follow international used names for countries. There is no South Korea but R.Korea, there is no North Korea but DPR Korea, there is no Macedonia but FYR Macedonia Check this following next links http://www.olympic.org/democratic-people-s-republic-of-korea , http://www.olympic.org/republic-of-korea , http://www.olympic.org/the-former-yugoslav-republic-of-macedonia
If you change names just because some of them are popular than just name America the USA — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.65.172.203 (talk) 10:38, 1 September 2012 (UTC)
IOC dropping wrestling from the Olympics?
editI've only recently learned about the IOC decision (threat? proposal?) to drop wrestling from the Olympics. All I've found so far is an article in the Oakland Press, Oakland Press article about IOC decision. This is news; wrestling is a fundamental activity, if you survived childhood then you've experienced wrestling. Who can point to more about this? It should be a front-page news article, but at the least we should update "Wrestling at the Summer Olympics" with the current event. If someone can find some good references; I heard a rumor that golf was being adopted and they have a limit to the number of sports so they had to drop something.Pete St.John (talk) 17:33, 19 February 2013 (UTC)
What does red mean?
editIn the Men's Table, what do the red X's indicated (versus the blue X's)? Please annotate the table. 71.237.88.113 (talk) 21:34, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
- The X's indicate that the event was held at that olympic game. The X is then linked to wikipedia's page on the event. In the cases where there is no wiki page on the event, the link will become red (to indicate the page doesn't exist). -- Lejman (talk) 00:38, 3 March 2014 (UTC)
Governing body renamed
editWrestling's international governing body renamed itself from FILA to UWW. The infobox still says FILA and I don't know how to change it. JDspeeder1 (talk) 01:30, 20 August 2016 (UTC)
Naming conventions
editI note that the naming conventions for Olympic wrestling articles are inconsistent. Up until 1964, the name of the weight class is used. From 1968 onwards, the weight limit is stated in the article name. What is the underlying rationale for this choice? Is there one? Given that weight limits change over time, it makes a lot more sense to me to use the name of the weight class. Schwede66 18:57, 10 November 2018 (UTC)
- Could you point to the articles you are referring to? I'm finding Wrestling at the 1956 Summer Olympics and Wrestling at the 2004 Summer Olympics which I assume is not what you meant. --Gonnym (talk) 20:42, 10 November 2018 (UTC)
- Ok, I found what you mean. I've looked at the Olympics site and it seems they've changed their naming style. Searching here will show you that for 1956, the Wrestling Freestyle sport, had events for "52 57KG Bantamweight Men", "52KG Flyweight Men" etc, while for 2016 you had "Freestyle 57 KG Men", "Freestyle 65 KG Men". Maybe because the weight amount changed, they felt that using a name for the class will misrepresent when comparing with previous years. --Gonnym (talk) 20:52, 10 November 2018 (UTC)
- Ok, this isn't attracting any meaningful amount of feedback. I shall thus put a formal move request up for some articles representative of all the years that may need attention. Link to ove request. Schwede66 19:17, 15 November 2018 (UTC)

Terminology: Freestyle originally Catch-as-catch-can?
editThe article (including the table) states that Freestyle Wrestling was an official event at the 1904, 1908 and 1920 Summer Olympics, but I have seen it stated elsewhere that in these years the event (wrestling other than Graeco-Roman) was described (in English) as Catch-as-catch-can. Only from the 1924 Olympics onwards was the term Freestyle used, as a translation of the French 'Lutte Libre', which was itself the French term generally used for Catch-as-catch-can. The rules were also tightened up to eliminate some of the potentially dangerous holds and throws previously allowed. I do not know what term was originally used in French, the other official language of the Olympics. Someone who knows more about the history of the event may be able to clarify this. One of the problems is that the meaning of the term Catch-as-catch-can is itself often vague, and not always distinguished from professional entertainment 'wrestling'.86.159.197.53 (talk) 18:07, 21 December 2018 (UTC)
Wrestling at the 1900 Summer Olympics
editIn an 1900 newspaper I read a short article about the wrestling competitions during the 1900 Summer Olympics. They are not recognised by the IOC, but they were held over several days at the Exposition Universelle (1900). Do we need to mention it in the article? See the article here. SportsOlympic (talk) 09:18, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, I would go ahead and include it (and add to the list of non-recognized sports at the 1900 Summer Olympics article as well). -- Jonel (Speak to me) 10:18, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
