Hello Nikki, thank you for your helpful review. I think I addressed most everything you suggested. I divided the third paragraph of features to clarify the source. Please let me know of any further improvements. --Wpwatchdog (talk) 13:17, 18 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Whitefish Point National Wildlife Refuge edit

The Whitefish Point National Wildlife Refuge mentioned in the first paragraph does not exist as such. The 33 acres administered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at Whitefish Point is an unnamed “satellite refuge” managed by staff of the nearby Seney National Wildlife Refuge. In other words, these 33 acres have never been officially designated as the Whitefish Point National Wildlife Refuge. In light of this fact, it would be more appropriate to refer to this parcel as a satellite of the Seney National Wildlife Refuge. John Trapp (talk) 22:35, 11 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

The signage for the refuge at Whitefish Point only recently changed. For many years, the USFWS posted a separate web page for the Whitefish Point National Wildlife Refuge. Here is a link to a 2003 USFWS Wildlife Fire Management Plan for the Whitefish Point National Wildlife Refuge: [[1]]. USFWS has not supplied an official reason for the shift in the refuge name for Whitefish Point.--Wpwatchdog (talk) 01:10, 13 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

The Human Use/Natural Resource Management Plan for Whitefish Point (Michigan Land Use Institute 2002) [[2]] says this about refuge lands at Whitefish Point (p. 9): "The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) administers 33 acres of land at Whitefish Point as part of the Seney National Wildlife Refuge."
Futhermore, the Seney National Wildlife Refuge Comprehensive Conservation Plan (2009) [[3]] clearly denotes the location of Whitefish Point Unit of the Seney National Wildlife Refuge (Figures 1 and 3) and includes a detailed description of the Whitefish Point Unit (pp. 7-8).
Given the characterization of USFWS lands at Whitefish Point as the Whitefish Point Unit of the Seney National Wildlife Unit in the agency's own Comprehensive Conservation Plan for the refuge, I think it entirely appropriate and (most importantly) accurate for that parcel be so designated in this article. The article is changed to reflect the above. --Wpwatchdog (talk) 23:29, 25 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
