Vitesco Technologies (known as Continental Powertrain until autumn 2019), headquartered in Regensburg, is a German automotive supplier for drivetrain and powertrain technologies. Vitesco Technologies is a business area of Continental AG[1] and develops solutions for electric drive as well as internal combustion engines.

Done Implemented partially. Did not include the names of employees beyond the CEO (it’s too common for managers to want to see their names published, but Wikipedia is not a directory, so we usually only publish the name of the CEO), or the people in charge of the different business units. The Products section was cleaned up a bit to remove self-promotional sentences. Ferkijel (talk) 12:33, 28 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

History edit

On January 1, 2019, Continental Powertrain was carved out from the Continental AG[2][3][4]. As part of the overall restructuring of Continental AG, Continental Powertrain was formed as the first of three new group sectors. Together with Continental Automotive Technologies and Continental Rubber Technologies, the three sectors make up the new structure of Continental since January 2020.[5] The brand name was changed from Continental Powertrain to Vitesco Technologies. The new name was officially introduced on October 1, 2019.[6][7] The new brand name originates from the Latin word “vita” (life). With this, the company aims to express its ability to react quickly and flexibly to the changing demands of the industry.[3][8]

Company Structure edit

Vitesco Technologies was founded to act as a more independent and entrepreneurially flexible company.[9] Andreas Wolf (CEO), Werner Volz (CFO) and Ingo Holstein (CHRO) form the company's management.[10] Wolf had headed Continental's Powertrain division since 2018 and became CEO of Vitesco Technologies after the demerger.

Vitesco Technologies has three business units which act economically independent:[11]

  • “Electronic Controls” headed by Wolfgang Breuer
  • “Electrification Technology” headed by Thomas Stierle
  • “Sensing & Actuation” headed by Klaus Hau.[12]

Products edit

The company develops intelligent system solutions and components for hybrid electric, electric drive and combustion engines. The product portfolio includes electric drives, electronic control units, sensors and actuators, as well as exhaust management solutions.[13]

The products of Vitesco Technologies include all versions of electric drives, from 48-volt-systems and hybrid technologies to high-voltage components. In 2019, the company introduced their 48-volt-high-power drive with an output of 30kW. The 48-volt-hybrid component, consisting of an electric machine with integrated power electronics as well as a battery, has comparable functions as a high-voltage electric machine; however it is more compact, lighter and cheaper to produced while having the same efficiency. According to the company, the drivetrain system can lower the fuel consumption in hybrid electric cars by 20%.[14] In the high-voltage segment, Vitesco Technologies offers an axle drive with two power outputs, 120 or 150kW. The high-voltage axle drive combines the electric engine, power electronics and reduction gear in one. Because of its size and efficiency, it is suitable for numerous vehicles and concepts.[15][16]

Power electronics, which control the cooperation between the electric machine and the battery, are another part of the product portfolio. Vitesco Technologies supplies various types of electronic vehicles with power electronics: from plug-in hybrids and electric cars with highly integrated axle drives to electric high-performance vehicles. The integrated power module allows a current of up to 650 amperes and provides the electric machine with energy and controls the energy recovery.[17]
