I do not know where to ask this, but what is the origin of the VSE? Whose idea was it? Was it originally written by Griffin? Zubrin? Someone else? I am not suggesting that person be criticized, only that the full progression be explained. This was a huge change in direction. We should know how we started on this course, and it seems unlikely that President Bush developed it personally.

Note on the Criticism Section

I'm removing Buzz Aldrin's name from those responsible for the cited abstract "Sustainable Space Exploration and Space Development - A Unified Strategic Vision". While his work was used as a reference, the only authors listed as responsible for it are Feng Hsu, Ph.D. and Ken Cox, Ph.D.

However, I'll incorporate Aldrin's criticism of NASA's vision into a statement of its own, referencing the actual article he wrote.

One key point missing from the the section was the 'political engineering' a major unwritten VSE requirement to keeping the Shuttle Workforce employed, this was successful in AL, MS & TX by not in FL. This requirement restricted the mission and system planning yielding the SLS Rocket. There are competing mission architectures that have a better chance of success using commercial launch services such as Space-X. If the SLS funding was direct to designing a Lunar/Mars landing system, NASA may have been able to plan for a Moon/Mars mission. dond (talk) 19:53, 13 August 2016 (UTC)

The far side of the Moon may not be permanently free of the "noise" of Earth. As we continue to place satellites in progressively higher orbit around the Earth, they will eventually cast their signals across even the far side of the Moon.

Changed from whole article needs update to specific sections need expansion (October 2021)

Hello, I have updated the lead section very slightly to reflect changes in space policy under different presidents until 2021. I removed the "needs update" tag on the whole article. I added new tags in the sections "Mars vision" and "Interplanetary human transport" because those sections have no article text, only images. Thanks. Jturner20 (talk) 16:53, 14 October 2021 (UTC)

Conflating VSE with ESAS
