Fair use rationale for Image:Umax17550.gif

Image:Umax17550.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. Purpose of Scanners list

What is the purpose of a partial list of UMAX scanner products? They've produced many more over the years than what is listed here, in addition to the mice, cameras and Apple computer clones. The list of products should be expanded to show all, or deleted, letting the UMAX Web site speak for itself. Perhaps a more detailed discussion of the types of products UMAX has produced would be in order, without detailing every one of them. —Quicksilver^{T @} 21:32, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

Indeed, that section is better changed to prose to explain/document the evolution of their products, etc. Back in Umax's heyday, the press did cover new product announcements from Umax (I've already added some sources like that), and there are probably more product reviews out there, although most of them likely are found in printed (computing) press of the 1990s. UMAX out of business?

The USA site is down. A cybersquatter has the UK site. The German and Australian UMAX sites are still up but their support downloads for drivers are no longer available. Has one of the oldest names in the scanner industry gone out of business? Bizzybody (talk) 06:21, 28 August 2011 (UTC)

Their Taiwan site sells a completely different product now, some kind of handheld computer. I haven't seen any news or reviews about new scanner products from them in ~8-10 years. So, yeah, I think the digital camera (and smartphones) revolution plus the cheapness of office multifunction printers (i.e. including scanners on top) has ended the pure-scanner line of business for UMAX. The only manufacturers which still make standalone scanners have a more diversified product line to include MFDs, digital cameras etc. I can't find any press mentions of UMAX officially exiting the scanner business though. I did find a 1999 story HP thrashing Umax in scanner market, which says that HP's scanner market share had doubled that year from 13 to 26%. I doesn't give any concrete figures what Umax's market share was though. Someone not using his real name (talk) 13:10, 1 February 2014 (UTC)

Info on the UMAX ActionBooks?

I know that UMAX used to make laptops—I have one that they made―but I can't find any info about it. MadeForLosers (talk) 14:44, 17 February 2023 (UTC)
