Saint Matthias edit

The sourced text says: "Tumauini became an independent parish from Cabagan in 1751." It does not say Tumauini became an independent parish from Cabagan "under the advocacy of Saint Matthias" in 1751 which is impossible as he could not have been alive in 1751. Regardless, I will look for another DYK nomination to review. HelenOnline 15:40, 10 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

HelenOnline, The line "under the advocacy of Saint Matthias" means that the church superior has appointed Saint Matthias, a Catholic saint to be the patron of the town. Choosing a patron for a town does not need to be alive, one requirement is that the patron is a Catholic saint. You can check the other reference cited. It's the first time I encountered this type of queries on a town's patron. --Carlojoseph14 (talk) 15:46, 10 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, I had not heard the term "under the advocacy of" in that context before. I still don't see where the wording "under the advocacy of Saint Matthias in 1751" is sourced though. If it is unsourced in the lead it should be mentioned and sourced in the main text. I see where it says the church was dedicated to Saint Matthias before 1751 (in 1707), and the town became independent in 1751, just not where it says Saint Matthias became the patron saint of the town in 1751. I have even found a source that says Matias was the patron saint of the town in 1707. Perhaps the wording in the lead is confusing me and could be clarified. I don't think that sentence is particularly important for this article about the church though. HelenOnline 16:20, 10 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
The answer to ALL of your questions is on the History section, first line. It is sourced, however offline. The establishment of a town is not always simultaneous to founding a parish church and dedication to a patron saint since a smaller part of the town, known as barrio could be a visita of the town with its own patron, during the colonization of the Spaniards in the Philippines. Here is the church's historical marker which is republished in the book used as an offline source in the article. --Carlojoseph14 (talk) 16:30, 10 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
You are now doing a DYK review for the article. --Carlojoseph14 (talk) 16:31, 10 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure if that is a question. I was, but I will look for another. HelenOnline 05:57, 11 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
