Episode tags

Episode tags are not supposed to be used for reality television series'. A reality show like Survivor is a game, and the section on Survivor in this article is about Tony's game and how he played it. His gameplay is completely irrelevant to which episode it was aired in. Gloss • talk 22:18, 13 June 2014 (UTC)

"Episode tags are not supposed to be used for reality television series"??? Where in the world did you this that idea from??? Material in Wikipedia articles must be supported by citations of sources, be they secondary sources, on in the cases of some information in TV-related articles, citations of the episodes themselves. Pawn Stars, Celebrity Rehab, The Real World, Counting Cars, all properly cite both secondary sources and episodes from which their material is derived, as do biographical articles of people related to those shows, like Rick Harrison, Judd Winick, etc. Where do you get the idea that this does not apply to reality TV or games? I was asked to comment on this issue. I added the WikiProject Television banner to this talk page; members of that project may have other suggestions. I can also offer two related opinions of my own.

First, Gloss and Nightscream have each reverted the other's edits twice within an hour. The three-revert rule is a bright line standard on edit warring: "An editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page... within a 24-hour period." Any editor who engages in edit warring, even without violating the three-revert rule, may be temporarily blocked from editing. Both editors have done the right thing by bringing the debate here to the talk page; neither should reverse the other until some consensus is reached regarding article content.

Second, all articles on Wikipedia, including those about contemporary popular culture issues, must be verifiable. This is accomplished by citing reliable sources that establish notability and verify content. Specific reference to episodes of the television program may be useful as primary sources, though secondary sources such as media reviews should also be sought. I agree with Cnilep. Wikipedia:Verifiability is clear on this. "Any material whose verifiability has been challenged or is likely to be challenged, must include an inline citation that directly supports the material. Any material that needs a source but does not have one may be removed." The addition of {{episode}} is a challenge to the associated claim and a citation must be provided. Removal of the template is inappropriate unless it is replaced with an inline citation. In this case, {{cite episode}}, preferably inluding the |minutes= or |time= parameters, may be used to cite the claims. --AussieLegend (✉) 04:08, 14 June 2014 (UTC)

If episode tags are needed there's a very long list of players on Template:Survivor (U.S. TV series) contestants that have sections on Survivor that need episode tags, as not a single one of them have them. So let's be consistent, eh? Gloss • talk 16:22, 17 June 2014 (UTC)

I'm not trying to justify anything. I'm saying if this is how it should be, anybody who wants to apply this to all of the Survivor contestants should do so, as there are no other articles that use these tags. User:Nightscream did not remove any material in his edit. He simply requested clarification as to which episode the said events took place. I do not see any problem with that. My two cents For what it's worth, I was asked to be here. The only thing that I immediately notice is something like, "In the premiere episode of [TV series], such and such happened..." doesn't need a citation.
