Year of birth

edit

Braxton's year of birth has been described as 1967 and sourced to a 2012 article, which says she turned 45 in that year year. Today an IP has added a Huffington Post article, also from 2012, saying it was her 46th birthday that year, and has changed the year of birth to 1966 accordingly. I see there was a discussion about this about 6 years ago. Perhaps we need help solving it. AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 05:01, 30 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

This is still a live issue. There are two sources refs in the article as to her birth date. One makes it 10/7/66. The other makes it 10/7/67. I've edited the article to delete references to a birth year, giving the birth date only, as "October 7". Please do not add a birth year without providing a superior source to the ones currently in the article. And please discuss here if you think I've gotten this wrong. Thanks. Arrrrgh. The article at Encyclopedia.com gives yet another year: 10/7/68. David in DC (talk) 20:29, 20 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
It is 2021 and this is still a issue. I reverted a pending change to 1966 after googling the original 1967 birth date and finding many confirmations but on further research I found just as many for 1966 dates (maybe I was too hasty - sorry). Unless someone can find a definitive reference I think we need to be vague and say 1966-1967. Mtpaley (talk) 23:46, 5 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Gas station discovery story

edit

I'm a little confused with regards to the gas station discovery story. Here on the entry it says that Braxton claimed she wasn't singing to herself but rather was recognized for her prior performances by the attendant. However, on an interview published by Guardian today, Braxton clearly states: "Nobody believes how I was discovered. They think it’s a story for publicity, but it’s absolutely true. I was in college and one day I was at the gas station, singing to myself while I filled the car. "

You are looking for Traci Braxton. (CC) Tbhotch 22:20, 13 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
Do we know why so many people seem to be confused about this? Did some major News outlet get it wrong? --DanielRigal (talk) 23:59, 13 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
Maybe it's the illusory truth effect. They see a picture of Braxton or read "Braxton dies" and they immediately assume it's about the most popular Braxton. Then they will start to say in the future "I swear she was dead". (CC) Tbhotch 01:01, 14 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
