I'd have to disagree with their status as an "emo" band. Simply because they talked about love doesn't necessarily mean they were emo. They even make fun of immature, adolescent love on tracks like "Today I Met The Girl I'm Going to Marry." --AspirinKid 16:51, 24 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Concerning their classification as emo, there is a big difference between what we now consider emo and what it meant when NOU first formed. Basically, NoU was a seminal first wave emo band, in part because of Svenonius's delivery, the lyrical content, and its fusion with punk music/sound. Drewcifer3000 04:58, 7 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Surely the Embasy Tapes are early recordings, rather than tracks for a third album.

The Embassy Tapes were recorded in September 1992, which would be a full seven months after they recorded their second record, Plays Pretty for Baby. [1] --AspirinKid 16:33, 24 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

I was going to delete the "article," but I'll let someone with more authority than I handle it. As it stands now (Nov. 22, 2005) it's just a transcription of the band's "official" bio from many years ago. Druff 01:26, 23 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

The Tim Green link is most likely a link to a different Tim Green which seems to be a football player so i unlinked him. Tim Green from Nation of Ulysses is now member of The Fucking Champs. He is also experienced studio engineer.

Fair use rationale for File:Ulysses Speaks.jpg edit

File:Ulysses Speaks.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

GA on hold edit

  • You should either cite everything, or nothing, in the lead. Not just one cite
Done Took out the one arrant citation in the lead. Drewcifer (talk) 02:06, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • "the Nation of Ulysses released" - is the "the" necessary?
Hard to say. Same with the Make-Up (see below). I took them out nonetheless. Drewcifer (talk) 06:31, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • "teen-oriented Sassy Magazine's first " - mag titles go in italics
  DoneDrewcifer (talk) 06:31, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • "Steve Gamboa, the Make-Up" - should the T in The be capitalised?
It's hard to say. The Make-Up was called various things (Make-Up, The Make-Up, Makeup, etc), so I don't think one way is necessarily wrong. Drewcifer (talk) 06:31, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
I think the main thing is that it's consistent throughout the article. dihydrogen monoxide (H20) 05:36, 17 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • I think I said this in the Svenonius GA review as well. Take it easy with his quotes ;) Not only in what he's saying, but also in that they're used a lot, where perhaps prose would be better
I think in some cases quotes are good. If you look at the article, there are a fair amount of quotes, but the vast majority of them are in the two sections dealing with their ideology. So I think writing that kind of stuff out in prose would be a bad idea, since the whole idea behind the band was so centered around their tongue-in-cheeck political-psycho babble, that to turn it into dry prose would be missing the whole point. Also, how better to describe how a band thinks (or pretends to think, in this case), then by hearing it from the band itself? Drewcifer (talk) 06:31, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Good point. Just don't overkill too much! dihydrogen monoxide (H20) 05:36, 17 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • "named 13-Point Program to Destroy America Nation of Ulysses" - comma after album title
  Done
    • Also, who are you quoting in that paragraph? (Let me guess...)
Svenonius, of course. What can I say, he's a quotable guy. Drewcifer (talk) 06:31, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • "The band usually wore suits and greased hair on stage, although they sometimes wore matching shirts and pants of a more casual nature." - a ref/image would be good
Done removed the sentence. Unnecessary, and a free image isn't available to clarify visually. Drewcifer (talk) 02:06, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Leave a note on my talk page when done. Cheers, dihydrogen monoxide (H20) 00:23, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
