Destiny similar to Rama

edit

"...The idea of the ancient spaceship (Destiny) is similar to Arthur C. Clarke's Rama spaceship in Rendezvous with Rama. This spaceship was also thousand years old and travel through the universe. Rama approach sun to get power to continue travel too. ..."

Why unsourced? The source is the Rendezvous with Rama book itself! --Szente (talk) 23:46, 19 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

It's also poorly written.   — Jeff G. ツ (talk) 23:58, 19 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Maybe but not unsourced. --Szente (talk) 00:04, 20 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

This is original research, which is not permitted. You need to provide a reliably published source that makes this comparison/conclusion, sourcing to the book alone is not sufficient. Please follow the bold, revert, discuss cycle and continue the discussion here before reverting the article further. Яehevkor 00:34, 20 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

I wrote some fact by the book (rama also thousand years old, get power from sun, etc). It nonsense to say that original research. It only facts by book not more and not less. I NEVER write that the authors of SGU use Rendezvous with Rama to develope Destiny. This two different things. One is to write tha fact and the other (what I didn't do) is original research! --Szente (talk) 00:43, 20 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

For example this is original research too? [[1]] "...Contact, which uses many ideas similar to His Master's Voice; both depend on the extensive speculation on possible contacts with extraterrestrial intelligence, which was novel when Lem wrote..." --Szente (talk) 00:50, 20 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

I make no comment on what exists in other articles (there are compliance issues in millions on Wikipedia articles, making it worse does not help matters). But this is indeed original research, you have noticed the similarities and commented on them, it's you own analysis and it is not appropriate. I suggest you read WP:OR carefully; to clarify "you must be able to cite reliable, published sources that are directly related to the topic of the article, and directly support the material being presented." Just citing the book is not sufficient, you must cite a reliably published source that makes the direct comparison of Rama to Destiny/SGU. Яehevkor 09:03, 20 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

I'm sorry if I see any simmilarity between Rama which bilt by aliens, thousand years old, looks abandoned, travel trhou universe and get power from suns to Desteny spaceship concept. I dare to use my brain to see the similarity what see many folk in many forums too, and see the one of the most older hungarian portal about series http://www.sorozatjunkie.hu/2009/10/23/stargate-universe-1x04/ This site in 2009 was said the simmilarity aftre cliffhanger and before Destiny got power from sun and adumbrate what will happen whith Destiny in the next part!

OMG what I did! Stay in the dark friend, sorry for disturb. --Szente (talk) 13:42, 20 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Okay.. thanks? Яehevkor 14:50, 20 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Last try...Hungarian source is not enough? In Hungray this is one of the best site about series. It's a kind of shame there is no english (professional) source about this obvious fact but it's not mine. --Szente (talk) 16:57, 20 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure it'd be considered a reliable source by Wikipedia's standards, seems to be more of a blog, no indication that the writers are experts on the subject (they seem to be anonymous, never an indication for reliability), no indication of independent editorial oversight. WP:RSN would be the best place for input on that though. Яehevkor 17:31, 20 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

On the Hungarian web online-news market have two big site: origo.hu and the index.hu. This two ruled most of our market. The index.hu have a special site about serials the http://comment.blog.hu/ I know look like fan site but we like this style. And on comment (the index own whole blog.hu system too) at the righ part (almost down) you will find "Innen lopunk" area. Those websites what used as source for big business site and the "Sorozatjunkie" is there. So here it is old reliable site what use as source the business site too.

How work to accept this site here? --Szente (talk) 18:25, 20 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Bring it up at Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard. Яehevkor 18:45, 20 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

I have removed my comment above as I have discussed the issue at RSN Taroaldo (talk) 00:45, 21 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

If one cannot cite in an article things which are similar - could an acceptable loophole be to put a link to the "Rendezvous With Rama" wikipedia page *in the External Links section*? Or perhaps make a category page called "Fictional works involving big, old, extra-galactic spacecraft?" (Actually, such a page might be useful - I'm sure that SGU and RwR are not the only two books dealing with "big, old, extra-galactic spacecraft". A list might be nice.)
And just for personal erudition, what is the WP guideline page that lays out criteria for what articles do and don't count as "similar articles/concepts"? Jimw338 (talk) 00:58, 10 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to 3 external links on Stargate Universe. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:

Not Really Canadian

edit

A quick check of multiple shows filmed primarily in Vancouver show that only Stargate's wiki lists it as Canadian in origin (Country of Origin). Not the Flash (2014), Not BSG (2004), McGuyver, The Arrow, Smallville, Dark Angel, Vancouver, etc. All of them are listed as Country of Origin: United States. 90% of films tagged "Category:Television_series_produced_in_Vancouver" are American shows, and not listed as Country of Origin: Canada. Shouldn't this be fixed, and remove Canada as Country of Origin for SG-1, SGA, SGU? --63.143.225.22 (talk) 18:17, 25 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
