Pronunciation? edit

The pronunciation description for Senedd is excellent ("SEN-eth"), however it would be very helpful if other words in the article, particular those that are headings, had the same treatment. These words include: Neuadd, Siambr, Cwrt. Tinkstar1985 06:17, 24 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi. I speak welsh and I think that statement is wrong. It'd pronounced sen-edd, but Welsh is a Gaelic language which complicates things. I suppose it could be pronounced ''SEN-EVV'' with the 'v' 's supposed to be an d sound, pronounced as a sort of hum.

Basically, it's complicated :D cf38talk 22:15, 19 December 2007 (UTC) Welsh is a language on the Brythonic branch of the Celtic language. The "dd" is like the "th" in "then", simply put, but I think some IPA is in order. Senedd (ˈsɛnɛð), Neuadd (ˈnəiað), Siambr (ˈʃambr), Cwrt (ˈkʊrt), Oriel (ɔrjɛl). St David's Day edit

The article says that the Senedd was opened on St David's Day 2006. This is incorrect, because St David's Day in 2006 was either the second day of March (if you're Church in Wales) or the last day of February (if you're Roman Catholic). It cannot have fallen on the first day of March because that day was Ash Wednesday. I think this was edited away before, but it seems to have come back. Marnanel 10:57, 15 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hasuko Hasegawa Atelier??? edit

In the reference www.wao.gov.uk it gives the name Hasuko Hasegawa Atelier (no reference on Google apart from the reference itself) as one of the architects, however I feel the real name of the architect is actually Itsuko Hasegawa Atelier. Seth Whales (talk) 22:44, 8 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

edit

I've never seen that logo in the infobox anywhere else. I've just had a look around online and still can't find any other examples of it being used anywhere by anyone. I can't be 100% sure enough to take it down myself, but I'll gladly propose getting rid of it. The Senedd is just a building. I believe the Welsh Assembly own, manage and occupy the building. I know it's nice, but it doesn't seem logical for the Assembly to have created a separate logo and identity for the bricks and mortar keeping the roof over their heads. The building isn't an entity. --Cymrodor (talk) 23:35, 13 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Name edit

My understanding is it has just one name and is referred to by that name. The opening sentence says it's sometimes referred to as 'the National Assembly building'. The only example given as a reference appears to be an article written on the day some men in suits presumably put a spade into the ground, i.e. before construction started and years before the building was completed and occupied, so it presumably didn't have a name at the time. That surely can't be considered proof of it currently having an alternative name.--Cymrodor (talk) 23:44, 13 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

If you look at the 'Awards' section you'll see it's often referred to as the 'National Assembly for Wales' (building). To be honest, I would have called it the same thing (or maybe the Assembly Building) until the Eisteddfod took place in the Bay this year and it was prominently referred to everywhere as the Senedd. I suppose there's a Welsh/English language thing going on here, people who are less comfortable with the Welsh language may not use 'Senedd' so much. Sionk (talk) 22:50, 17 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

SeneddSenedd building – With the imminent renaming of the National Assembly of Wales to "the Senedd"/"Senedd Cymru", there is a strong possibility that the page for the legislature will end up being moved too; I notice that the Assembly is already called by its Welsh name, rather than its English name, in English language sources (recent: [1], [2], [3]). "Senedd building", hence, is a natural disambiguation to contrast with Senedd Cymru, and doing this move several months before the name change allows us to change the links ahead of time. Sceptre (talk) 16:32, 5 December 2019 (UTC)Relisted. – Ammarpad (talk) 07:00, 14 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

This seems a very sensible idea - as noted, even if the Assembly isn't officially renamed, the Welsh name is pretty commonly used in English and it feels a bit odd to have it go to the building rather than the institution. Andrew Gray (talk) 20:46, 14 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
Comment: I've created a draft disambiguation page, which should take this article title if this article is moved. Sceptre (talk) 00:33, 15 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

Article name edit

The usual way to disambiguate is to put the disambiguator in brackets. The building is called the Senedd, not "Senedd building", and therefore I propose it be moved to Senedd (building). Any objections? Ghmyrtle (talk) 12:34, 8 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Sounds sensible and consistent with other articles. Sionk (talk) 16:31, 8 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
I approve, however, I feel we should wait. We need to see the outcome of the Requested move for National Assembly on 6 May 2020.SethWhales talk 09:27, 10 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Oppose: The "usual way to disambiguate" according to the WP:D policy is natural disambiguation. (It's the primary, preferred form, followed by comma-delimited dab, secondarily, then parenthetical dab, tertiarily). Given the fact that the official Senedd page as well as articles by the BBC, ITV, et al always open by calling this the "Senedd building", it is one of its common names. We don't need to decide if it is the common name vs. "Senedd" given that would be ambiguous with the body. The Llew Mawr (talk) 08:33, 11 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
A fair point, I think. This, for example, refers to the "Senedd building". It may change - we should wait and see. Ghmyrtle (talk) 08:59, 11 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Architecture edit

It's very bland for a RSH+P building, why no colour? I guess its neutral? Not much energy but I guess colour was a planning thing? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 5.80.211.164 (talk) 21:20, 7 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

I am unsure but legislative buildings tend to be austere. To me, it resembles a dolmen like you'd find throughout the British Isles during the stone age. I will search for evidence for my hypothesis and its inclusion in the article. — Special:Contributions/TheSands-12 10:27, 16 December 2023 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheSands-12 (talkcontribs) Reply
