Removal of unreferenced information edit

I've removed the following information from the article as it has been unreferenced since 2007. It can be reinserted if a reliable source for the information can be found:

  • Watson's daughter Rebecca was born October 1994,[citation needed] (in fact, IMDb says 1995 – but that information is also unreferenced). — Cheers, Truth's Out There talk 01:48, 8 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • Russell had several years of formal training with a local vocal tutor, David Dubery.[citation needed]

— Cheers, Truth's Out There talk 15:53, 2 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

If Watson was classically trained, surely that should be referred to, referenced or otherwise?

Velvet Revolver edit

The fact that Watson was asked to be lead singer of Velvet Revolver can't possibily be true.......... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.97.101.181 (talk) 17:25, 6 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Apparently it is. I've added a reference. — Cheers, Truth's Out There talk 04:20, 7 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

The reference is now a dead link - I do wonder whether this article has been removed as it turns out to be untrue? Any other citations are available? I realise that an article no longer being available doesn't make something untrue, but echoing the earlier poster on this, the scenario seems so unlikely that a decent reference is a necessity. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.113.170.97 (talk) 10:23, 29 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Year of birth edit

An IP has recently changed his year of birth from 1966 to 1974 without citing a source. While it is true that some source like [1], [2] or [3] give the year 1974, other sources like IMDb, [4] etc. have 1966. The BBC even gives both years ... Does anybody know a reliable source? --FordPrefect42 (talk) 18:26, 11 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

When I checked the BBC website just now, it was showing 1966. But it isn't reliable because it just obtains the information from Wikipedia. I haven't come across a reliable source yet, but believe that the 1966 date is more accurate because in a 2007 interview with The Times Watson said: "And here I was with a brain tumour on the eve of my 40th birthday." So unless another editor has a reliable source specifying that Watson was born in 1974, the 1966 birth year should remain. — Cheers, Truth's Out There talk 08:31, 14 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
I just recognized that the BBC page is a mirror of this wikipedia article, so no wonder it has again changed by now. Sorry for that one. Thanks for the link to the Times interview, I think that this cleared up tings: 1974 is completely impossible. --FordPrefect42 (talk) 06:53, 15 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Pituitary tumour edit

I have removed the words 'brain tumour' since Russell Watson was suffering from a pituitary tumour, not a brain tumour. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Irandust (talkcontribs) 22:54, 17 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

The reference to cancer should also be removed, as a benign tumour, it isn't cancer! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.197.15.138 (talk) 08:59, 1 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Lawsuit edit

I have just removed this section. The material was contraversial. The references given were to dead links. There were far too few inline refs. If this story is to be reintroduced, it needs to be clearly referenced, point by point, from a reliable source, eg newspaper reports. almost-instinct 12:13, 3 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

NO MC Hammer! edit

I have removed mention as he says in this recent interview, it never happened! http://www.crawleynews.co.uk/RUSSELL-WATSON-INTERVIEW-Eric-Cantona-stopped/story-26090874-detail/story.html Veryscarymary (talk) 20:59, 1 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Getting the right 'Salford' page edit

I do wish people would learn and understand how to use the correct 'Salford' page for various people who have a connection with the various 'versions' of 'Salford'. Eg, some people think the page 'Salford, Greater Manchester' covers all 'Salford'. Not so, 'Salford, Greater Manchester' is concerned with Salford in its original historic form (post code M3) before the nearby districts of Broughton, Pendleton etc were added in the 19th century. This true 100% Salford covers a fairly small area partially bounded by the River Irwell across from Manchester city century. Between 1844 and 1974 'Salford' was also the County Borough of Salford which was granted 'city status' in 1926. This 'city of Salford' included districts such as Salford itself (as above), Pendleton, Broughton, Kersal, Weaste, Ordsall, Irlams o' th' Height etc. Since 1974 the local authority for 'Salford' is known as the City of Salford which is comprised of five different towns namely, Salford (city), Eccles (municipal borough), Swinton and Pendlebury (municipal borough), Worsley (urban district) and Irlam (urban district). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.112.166.26 (talk) 16:41, 9 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Star Trek: Enterprise edit

Why is one of the categories in which this article is placed "Star Trek: Enterprise"? The article does not make it clear what this singer has to do with Star Trek: Enterprise. Vorbee (talk) 15:56, 3 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Early life edit

'Russell Watson attended Irlam Endowed Primary School. He then began work on a Youth Opportunities Programme as a bolt-cutter.' This sounds as though he started work at 11 years old. He would have gone to what became Irlam High School after comprehensivisation, but it's had a couple of name changes and I haven't been able to find out the dates.
