References edit

Due to the division of SCRAMP and General Racing Ltd, all links to the Monterey Historic website redirect to the General Racing Ltd front page. I had to remove all of those references. If anyone can find replacement sources, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. 169.233.59.10 (talk) 21:06, 20 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Dead Links edit

As the creator of this article, I would like the dead links omitted. Thank you. 67.188.45.27 (talk) 17:21, 24 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

It Still Exists edit

The event still exists, it's simply under a new name. 169.233.57.145 (talk) 07:20, 21 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Continuation of Monterey Historics under new management, or new event edit

If this is a continuation of the Monterey Historics under new management and new name then the 1974 to 2009 information should stay. If it has nothing to do with the Monterey Historics then perhaps the information about the former race should be in its own article and this article would start with this year. I tend to go with the continuation approach. Other thoughts? Thanks, Alanraywiki (talk) 00:20, 10 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

FYI... The Monterey Motorsports Reunion is NOT a continuation of the Monterey Historic Automobile Races - it is a NEW Vintage Racing event and therefor has no history. —Preceding unsigned comment added by De1025 (talkcontribs) 19:05, 10 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
So do you feel the Sonoma race will be a continuation of the Monterey Historics? The Monterey Motorsports Reunion is in the same location and date as the former race, just under different management. For example, the Indy 500 has had a number of sanctioning bodies, but it is still the same event. Alanraywiki (talk) 18:37, 11 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

The Sonoma races will also be a new event, it is not sharing the history of the past Wine Country Classic event even though it's on the same dates and location. The Indy 500 is,and allways has been, owned and operated by the Speedway - not the sanctioning bodies, so they own the event. the Monterey Historics were owned and managed by General Racing Ltd. for 36 years. Laguna seca was paid for the use of the facilities and helped staff the event. they had nothing to do with the cars, drivers, rules, and the history that was established. New name, new rules, new management = new event. Apples & oranges I suppose. —Preceding unsigned comment added by De1025 (talkcontribs) 19:23, 12 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hopefully some more editors will comment on this issue. However, if it is determined that the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion is not a continuation, then this article should return to its former name and a new article with the Reunion name be started. We don't want to lose 35 years of significant history by removing it from this article. Let's see what others say. Alanraywiki (talk) 14:59, 16 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
OK, here's my viewpoint:

1. It's held at the same location. 2. It features the same classes. 3. It's held at the same time of year. 4. It uses the same format.

I'd have to say that it's the same event, just under new management. 76.126.21.16 (talk) 21:06, 10 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Dead links edit

Could someone replace the dead links? Thanks. AmericanLeMans (talk) 22:51, 14 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Popular Mechanics edit

I have removed all the references to Popular Mechanics, as they redirect to an RSS subscription page. If someone can find a way to bypass this redirect, please do so. 192.235.7.100 (talk) 02:09, 17 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Change of management section. edit

The change of management section is a bunch of lawyer-speak nonsense and I'm eventually going to take most of it out. ColinClark (talk) 20:55, 27 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

That section is actually pretty significant. While it may be able to be cut down, most of the information should stay. 72Dino (talk) 20:58, 27 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Any feedback on my edit? ColinClark (talk) 03:22, 17 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
I think overall your edit kept most of the important information. I'm not clear on what is meant by "for commercial reasons" and which event (Monterey or Sonoma) is referred to in the phrase "the event's committee still observes the event as having begun in 1974". But other than that, the new wording works for me. Thanks, 72Dino (talk) 04:16, 17 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I didn't think the commercial details were interesting for the article, but they are explained a little more in the reference. More can be added if you think it improves the article. I clarified the 2nd point a little. Hopefully my next edits can be about funner stuff, like race cars. ColinClark (talk) 04:40, 17 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
I'll take a look at the commercial reasons and see if it should be incorporated into the article when I get a chance. I am interested in the business side, too, but am looking forward to heading up there in August for the Cobras. 72Dino (talk) 04:46, 17 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Very notable race edit

I appreciate the clean up of this article, but this race is definitely meets the notability requirements of a Wikipedia article. I will be happy to add additional citations. It is a long-standing event that is one of the most significant of all vintage races. It has large attendance as well as TV and other media coverage. Bahooka (talk) 15:47, 18 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

I agree with you. Also, the fact that at least one notable if not famous racecar driver has participated annually since 1999 should be great proof of the event's notability. AmericanLeMans (talk) 22:59, 22 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Status edit

Has the article's status been improved? Other editors have removed parts they viewed as "promotional" rather than informative. AmericanLeMans (talk) 18:51, 3 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Featured marques edit

Is my new featured marque table ok? AmericanLeMans (talk) 22:00, 2 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

No, it is not okay. It was removed here and continues to be unsourced and have flag icons. Nothing has changed except the formatting. I am removing again. Bahooka (talk) 21:06, 5 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
I would like to see the history of the featured marques in the article somehow, whether a table or some other format. The flags and the commentary/notes I could do without. Sources should not be hard to find. ColinClark (talk) 00:37, 6 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
I am also okay with the list (although another editor is not.) However, the flags need to go and there needs to be references for all of it before it is added back. AmericanLeMans is getting the information from some source, they just need to cite it. Bahooka (talk) 15:18, 6 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately, I can't find the original source anymore. AmericanLeMans (talk) 20:17, 6 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Then the list of featured marques cannot be added yet. A reference needs to be found. And since you are adding to another list right now, I recommend you add the citation now while you have it. Bahooka (talk) 20:28, 6 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Found it. AmericanLeMans (talk) 20:36, 6 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. Either you or I can remove the flag icons per MOS:FLAG and the largely original research notes from the table. You may also want to look at Template: Cite so you don't keep using bare references for your citations. Bahooka (talk) 21:01, 6 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Dead links edit

Once again we have several dead links that need addressing. Can anyone help? AmericanLeMans (talk) 19:20, 21 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
