editThe photo listed is not Rodney Erickson. Suggest using this image instead: http://www.flickr.com/photos/pennstatelive/4951089942/in/set-72157628915241731 Endeavor2 (talk) 03:08, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Endeavor2. Are you sure it's not him? Unfortunately, we cannot use that picture as it is not freely licensed. Per WP:NFC#UUI, we can't use non-free pictures of living people. --Jtalledo (talk) 09:42, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Jtalledo. Yes, I am 100 percent certain the existing photo is not Rodney Erickson, as he doesn't wear glasses, for starters. I tried to find out who that commencement speaker is in the existing photo -- it seems to be of an honorary speaker from a graduate school ceremony, given the number of faculty in the background -- but it is not Erickson. The photo I suggested is from Penn State's official Flickr website, which does allow free use for noncommercial purposes. I understand a bit about the Creative Commons but am a bit hazy on the rationale between noncommercial rights and Wikipedia's need for completely rights-free photos. An alternate photo of Rodney Erickson, also from the Penn State Flickr channel, is http://www.flickr.com/photos/pennstatelive/6680909201/in/set-72157628915241731, same with this one of him speaking at a commencement -- http://www.flickr.com/photos/pennstatelive/7145632507/in/set-72157628915241731. I think it is more important to have an accurate depiction than a completely rights-free one, no? Just my two cents, FWIW. (Endeavor2 (talk) 01:16, 15 October 2012 (UTC))
- BTW, Jtalledo, I'm somewhat new to WP editing and posting; please forgive me if my talk posts scream "newbie"! heh. Full disclosure: I work at Penn State, which is why I know the photo isn't of him. (I will do my best to uphold the WP expectation to keep any/all of my Penn State contributions factual and unbiased.) (Endeavor2 (talk) 01:24, 15 October 2012 (UTC))
- No worries. Anyway, the gist is for biographies on living persons, a completely free use image must be used. That is, an image that is freely licensed for even commercial use.
- I'll remove the picture that is currently in the infobox, since it may cause confusion. Thanks. --Jtalledo (talk) 13:45, 15 October 2012 (UTC)
