Beavan's death is given in his obituary (Ibis. April 1870, pp302-303) as "he died at sea on the 3rd of February last, at the early age of twenty-nine". Does this mean that he died 3rd Feb 1870 or 3rd Feb 1869? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Grantus4504 (talk • contribs) 06:12, 12 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
1870 should be right (matches with the 29 years as well). Last refers to the month most recently gone. The usage of inst., prox., last and ult. for dealing with months (not years) still has a bit of life in some Colonial haunts. Shyamal (talk) 08:21, 12 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

The brother of Robert Cecil Beavan (Capt, Bengal Staff Corps) was Reginald C. Beavan (Lieut. , 22nd Punjab Native Infantry). It seems very unlikely that the one from Punjab Native Infantry moved to the Bengal Staff Corps. Shyamal (talk) 04:02, 13 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
