Taxonomy: For all marine species, Project Gastropods uses the taxonomy in the online database WoRMS. When starting a new article, do not use sources of taxonomic information that predate the 2017 revision for all gastropod groups ("Revised Classification, Nomenclator and Typification of Gastropod and Monoplacophoran Families" by Philippe Bouchet & Jean-Pierre Rocroi, Bernhard Hausdorf, Andrzej Kaim, Yasunori Kano, Alexander Nützel, Pavel Parkhaev, Michael Schrödl and Ellen E. Strong in Malacologia, 2017, 61(1–2): 1–526.) (can be dowloaded at Researchgate.net), substituting the previous classification of 2005 Taxonomy of the Gastropoda (Bouchet & Rocroi, 2005). I only found one species which Hinds had described (which is how I came across his name - there was an ambiguous link in a Wiki article). I wouldn't be at all surprised if there were more; any such should of course be added to this article.

"Hinds" is the standard form for him as a botanical authority, but I'm not finding any records of plant species that he described. It's possible that he's credited as an "ex" author for some plant species.Plantdrew (talk) 00:24, 3 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Searching for "R. B. Hinds" pulls up some of his zoological contributions, e.g. [1], [2]. I'm not very comfortable with the {{Zoologist}} template though. Zoologists don't have standardized author abbreviations (and to the extent that there is a consensus on how to cite a zoological authority, it's by done by subfield; "Smith" might clearly refer to one person in an ichthylogical context and another person in an entomological context). The issue you identified is the reason why I suggested that other editors might want to add "authority" templates, and why I didn't myself just wade in and add a few out of nowhere. IMO, Wiki crowdsourcing at its best. I never expected so many improvements so quickly, in an article about someone almost forgotten. Thank you all! :-D I've used your new info to tweak the article a little, and to improve categories, and to mention him in Hindsia.

Cautionary warning: one source says that Hinds visited the Galapagos – which would be a nice story, but by Hinds' own account of the voyage does not seem to have happened.

WP:OR, so no way includible in the article: it looks to me as if Hinds returned to England very ill indeed, saw his major works (the Sulphur voyage reports) through to publication – and then his body gave out. Narky Blert (talk) 22:36, 3 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
