Salem at Bunker Hill edit

In spite of the determination in the 1980s by historians that the black soldier depicted in the painting Battle of Bunker Hill was not Salem, this is far from settled fact. — Loadmaster (talk) 03:43, 29 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, looks like this was copied verbatim from the latest episode of Glenn Beck. 69.121.112.126 (talk) 06:41, 29 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
So you have some references to demonstrate that it is decided fact? A quick Google search produces a few examples: this, this, this, this, this, and this state or imply that it is Salem depicted in the painting. — Loadmaster (talk) 19:41, 29 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Death_of_General_Warren_at_the_Battle_of_Bunker%27s_Hill,_June_17,1775 Claims that the person in question is "a freed slave who served in the cause of American independence. Later research instead identified him as a slave belonging to [Thomas Grosvenor". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.232.47.138 (talk) 07:03, 13 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Outrage edit

It has come to my attention information regarding Peter Salem was discovered recently ,and someone attempted to post the truth about Peter after Bunker Hill but the post was taken down. Who authorized anyone to take down that work? It may seem hard to believe but it is the truth. I would like the edit to be restored to how it was formerly to whoever or whatever editing it back. As a professor of American History I find Peter Salem's True story extremely interesting. Please fix this — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cleancut251 (talkcontribs) 16:50, 11 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Notability? edit

I see none here. He was a soldier and I don't think it's our intent -- in fact, I know it's not -- to give a page to every soldier in history. 72.86.47.226 (talk) 17:54, 17 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

We're not trying to catalog every soldier in every battle, just the historically significant ones. Salem is historically significant because:
  • he was a freed slave who fought as a soldier in the Battle of Bunker Hill
  • he fired the shot that killed British Marine Major John Pitcairn
Casual Google searches show that he's mentioned on many websites devoted to American Revolution history. So obviously many historians consider this one man interesting enough to devote time and research to his contributions. That should be sufficient to establish notability. — Loadmaster (talk) 19:21, 17 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Need cites to sources as inline citations. Deleted article on African Americans in Revolution by Robert A. Selig, as it did not even mention Peter Salem.Parkwells (talk) 13:10, 1 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
