Hy! I think that in France (I'm French), that isn't politically correct to say he's a jewish singer. He's a French singer, that's all, and he never have said he was a jewish singer. Bruel's songs are tipycally french. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 88.160.233.169 ([[User talk:{88.160.233.169} (talk · contribs · [https://tools.wmflabs.org/whois/gateway.py?lookup=true&ip=88.160.233.169}

This is not politically correct in France (I'm french too) , but it is on English Wikipedia. Every people here are listed according to their ethnicity. Get over it.

But is it particularly relevant in the introductory paragraph? It would be usual on English Wikipedia to mention it in a section about his personal life (provided it can be cited), and to include him in the appropriate categories (as is already the case). However, as it stands, the positioning in the opening paragraph suggests this is a major part of his identity, and there appears little to suggest this is so. In other words, his religious affiliation is given undue prominence, contrary to Wikipedia guidelines. Contrast this article with Neil Diamond or Bette Midler, both well-known singers of Jewish extraction. In neither of those cases is their religious background mentioned in the introduction.
