Demographics

edit

Why do references to median gross income and racial makeup keep getting removed? Pacific Palisades has the 5th highest per capital income in the County, and is around 82% White according to the LA times mapping LA project. These are notable facts worthy of inclusion. No one is making any sort of judgement good or bad about the area by including that information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 47.157.79.79 (talk) 19:41, 12 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Wealthy is a subjective term that is not useful in the lead. Content with reliable sources can be added to the demographics which provides information to the reader rather than useless labels. Fettlemap (talk) 19:51, 12 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Ok, remove it from the intro section, but nearby neighborhoods Bel Air, Los Angeles, and Brentwood, Los Angeles, Malibu, California include this information in the demographics section, largely with the same LA Times source. Include the info in the same way it is shown there. The repeated removal (its not just me, others have tried) imply some sort of strange grudge against including it here.

Who is Melissa Schall? A google search on her reveals no one who is an activist. The description "Heartbreaker" leads me to think that it's a personal friend of the contributor. I'm going to revert it - if you wish to include her, please post here why she should be included - what activism is she famous for? Manway 15:58, 4 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

If they would just post citations that verify the information no questions would be necessary.Pleasestopit (talk) 21:40, 19 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

You waited almost 5 years to post that? --Manway 04:51, 20 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Palisades Charter High School Website

edit

The website listed in Ref 1 - http://www.palihigh.org - is NOT an official school site. It is a paid inclusion site operated by a company called Educational Networks that (my understanding is) basically steals content from school sites until they can show the school the number of hits they get is big enough that the school should pay them. Personally, I don't think we should have a link to this site.

The official school site is http://www.lausd.k12.ca.us/Palisades_Charter_HS/school_profile.html - maybe a link here would be a better choice?

I just noticed the undo. Not sure if you read my comments before the undo, but thanks for that. Manway (talk) 05:39, 18 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Incorporated to city of Los Angeles

Puff

edit

The beginning of this article appears loaded with uncited and sourced puffery including the multiple uses of the word affluent to the point of disgust. This is not a real estate blog and is not here to market the area. As I am someone from the area I would like to see an objective realistic viewpoint of the neighborhood not some hyped up garbage like a bad movie. Pleasestopit (talk) 21:38, 19 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

:Please show me one use of the word "affluent" in this article. I think you're taking things out of context. I'm a PacPal native and this article seems very Neutral POV to me, --Manway 04:54, 20 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

My apologies. I did not see your edits before I posted that. Yes, you did a nice job improving the lede. In fact, you made it very neutral. Nice job and again, please don't jump down my throat for the earlier comments. I retract them 8^) --Manway 04:57, 20 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles. Please take a moment to review my edit. Pacific Highlands

edit

I doubt this article even needs a single section on Pacific Highlands, but it does not need two, especially with both of them completely uncited to anything. I removed the second section about Pacific Highlands, because the subject is more than adequately covered in the first.76.168.109.87 (talk) 15:15, 13 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

edit

I removed a link to the Pacific Highlands neighborhood because it redirected to another part of the article which duplicated the material in the section with the link, and I removed the second section anyway, see above for rationale.76.168.109.87 (talk) 15:18, 13 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Village is walkable and vibrant?

edit

I removed the description of the Village as walkable and vibrant because (a) it isn't, and (b) if we're going to state opinions like that in WP's voice we need high quality sources. This had no source. Please consider reading WP:BURDEN and finding a source before replacing this material.76.168.109.87 (talk) 15:20, 13 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Village consists of weekly events?

edit

I removed the list of things that the Village putatively consists of because it doesn't actually consist of that stuff, because it sounded like one of those brochures you find in hotel lobbies, and because we really need a source, if only to demonstrate that anyone other than the local boosters who put that nonsense in think it's important. Please read WP:BURDEN and justify the reinclusion of the material. Thanks! 76.168.109.87 (talk) 15:23, 13 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Palisades News

edit

Is the Palisades News important? I'm sure that the people who run it think it is, but no one else really does. Thus I removed it. Please find a source to justify its reinclusion.76.168.109.87 (talk) 15:26, 13 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Alphabet Streets

edit

I removed this neighborhood. It was made up by real estate agents. The history of it was made up by real estate agents. It was unsourced, and it is unsourceable to any reliable sources. If you want to replace it, please at least find one source that's not a real estate agent's website. 76.168.109.87 (talk) 15:33, 13 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Marquez Knolls

edit

I removed this neighborhood. It was made up by real estate agents. The history of it was made up by real estate agents. It was unsourced, and it is unsourceable to any reliable sources. If you want to replace it, please at least find one source that's not a real estate agent's website or the homeowners' association, which is most emphatically not a reliable source for the existence or importance of this area as an actual neighborhood.76.168.109.87 (talk) 15:35, 13 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Population

edit

"The area currently has about 24,651 residents" was evidently written by someone who doesn't know what "about" means. Population figures are integers, so in the context 24,651 can't mean "24,651 plus or minus a half". It would be okay to write "exactly 24,651" if it can be sourced, although of course the figure would need updating every time the population changed, which would be unlikely to be fewer than several times a month. Alternatively, and rather more sensibly, lose some of those significant figures: "over 24 thousand", "a little under 25 thousand", something like that. 92.232.224.153 (talk) 13:38, 21 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Good point. I've changed the article. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 05:20, 18 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Politics

edit

I think giving the idea that it is a heavily-Democratic area is useful, with the overall presidential vote in 2020 being good (both percentages and raw totals). But I don't think it is necessary to put the results for every single Palisades neighbourhood, because it doesn't add much.
