Central
editI've been looking at the maps and as far as I can tell the line from Brunswick to central has always been under ground, however it used to emergy into the station, which is in a cutting.
In the 70's the floor of the tunnel was lowered at the Central station end and the line connected to the Mersey Railway Tunnel. Which now surved as part of the cross rail, while the Mersey railway was put on the deep level loop.
Thinking about that is there a connection between the Loop and the spur still left over? --Son of Paddy's Ego 15:28, 1 October 2005 (UTC)
- The CLC route into Central was indeed underground. However, they didn't simply lower the floor of the tunnels to allow for a split-level junction with the connecting tunnel to Edge Hill, which was authorised but never built. The southbound Northern Line tunnel was built at a higher level than the northbound tunnel, so that it could pass over the top of the proposed tunnel to Edge Hill.
- North of Central, the Northern Line follows the Mersey Railway tunnel for about half of the distance to Moorfields, where the new tunnel starts again (the junction is under Paradise Street). There is still a track in the rest of the MR tunnel to James Street, which is used for stock movement purposes, allowing the Northern Line trains to reach the main Merseyrail depot at Birkenhead North.
- I've been reading an article from Modern Railways magazine from 1975 (a contemporary account of the expansion works). I've been meaning to add information to the Wirral Line, Liverpool Central and James Street articles about all of this, but unfortunately I've had too much real work to do! --RFBailey 18:59, 1 October 2005 (UTC)
- I've seen some of those pictures in the past. (Paradise Junction) (SIL Stock Interchange Line) (Mann Island Junction)[1]--Son of Paddy's Ego 22:55, 1 October 2005 (UTC)
Station lists
editAs a resource, the station lists should contain existing stations only (or stations under construction, such as Liverpool South Parkway). Articles about stations that are closed should be linked to from elsewhere: listing St James station as part of these lists is confusing. --RFBailey 19:00, 4 October 2005 (UTC)
St James' railway station
editI've noticed that an addition I made to the closed station section (St. James) has now been renamed "Saint James" whereas on maps I've found I've seen the actual station name to be "St. James'" such as here.(Stuey 182 01:04, 4 April 2006 (UTC))
- Yep, that's right. I've corrected it to St James' . The dot after 'St' shouldn't be there as letters are not omitted after the 't' of 'St'. That's just a picky punctuational thing more than anything; the same exists at St Michaels and St Helens. James R 18:02, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
Northern Line Stations Template
editI've created and added a template for Northern Line stations (previous station lists are achived below). What are people's thoughts? Anything that should be changed or added to the template? Obvious next steps are to introduce it to station pages, and do a similar template for the Wirral Line. Given LSP is opening on Sunday, I've not included Garston Mtpt 21:54, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
- Very good in my opinion, a big improvement over the list. I'll do the Wirral Line now. 62.69.34.234 12:00, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

editConfusing lead section
editCould someone please clarify the lead - "Merseyrail's City Line is not owned or operated by Merseyrail" is confusing, even to someone like me who has some knowledge in the subject. To an average reader, it just appears contradictory. — Tivedshambo (t/c) 19:33, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
- To be honest, I don't think the City Line even needs a mention in the lead. Thoughts? I'm planning on doing some work on the article soon as I've recently been doing with Wirral Line. Raywil (talk) 19:38, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
Marsh Lane station
editThis station is in former stations section - is it actually closed - according to Bootle New Strand railway station it was just renamed.Sf5xeplus (talk) 15:59, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
Move discussion in progress
editThere is a move discussion in progress on Talk:Merseyrail which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RMCD bot 20:31, 2 February 2023 (UTC)
Citation issues
editThere's a clear issue on this article over citations, and the lack of both, citiations, and reliable sources of information.
For example, after doing some searching, there is no information relating to the 1998 Brunswick station (though it is obvious that it happened). If anyone can find any sources, lmk, however, I think it may need to be deleted as uncited, even though its obvious it happened. --- 𝓙𝓪𝓭𝓮 (Talk) • 𝓉𝒽𝑒𝓎/𝓉𝒽𝑒𝓂 13:41, 15 October 2023 (UTC)
