Pop Culture References
editThis is not a page to list every instance of a magical cat in your favorite anime. Please be careful not to just indiscriminately add lists of pop culture references. In order to discourage people from continuously adding one or two line links to their favorite shows, I am removing the Pop Culture section of this article. It would be best instead to link the articles related to those specific anime and manga to this page. Please see Wikipedia's In popular culture guidelines for more details. Some cleanup needed
editNekomata does not really fall under as a type of Bakeneko though this article tries a little bit to point only specific differences. Bakeneko is a type of henge(Shapeshifter), and the Nekomata is strictly a Transformed Monster Cat. I understand no matter who you talk to about Yokai Folklore that you'll get 100 different answers, but this seems to me to be the most understanding route to take with both creatures. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.11.51.217 (talk) 06:12, 22 April 2016 (UTC)
- This really isn't true. Yokai just aren't that categorically organized into classes and subgroups like real animals are. All of the terms are fuzzy, and there's not much common understanding about any yokai really. It's not incorrect to say that nekomata are a type of bakeneko because there aren't any strict classifications about what makes or doesn't make a bakeneko. There aren't really any strict classifications about "shapeshifters" and "monster cats"—terms and translations that were applied after the fact to describe these creatures. There's nothing wrong in stating the relationship between nekomata and bakeneko. The whole point of yokai is that they are nebulous and not 100% definable. Osarusan (talk) 13:52, 22 April 2016 (UTC)
