When I added the infobox I changed the cove rimage to the British cover, because a) It is a British book by a British author b) I think the British covers more readily evoke the feelings of the books, with their gritty colours and so forth. I'll do a plot summary when I get time. Battle Ape 05:43, 14 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Grike

edit

Please to not change Grike to refer to "Shrike." shrike was the British name, and since they're British books, we'll stick to American conventions. Battle Ape 14:01, 22 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Proposed merger

edit

Rationale: I stumbled across the Valentine article when cleaning up copy. Since the plot summary for Mortal Engines is already tagged for length, I felt that Valentine, though a fairly major character, should probably not have his own very detailed article. I propose that either a) all major characters receive a section on this article or b) creating a companion list article with short bios of the important characters, which is what I consider a possibly better solution. Thoughts?

(Note: I didn't propose all character pages for merger because it seemed redundant; if we're going to have this discussion, it doesn't seem necessary to link every single existing character page to the talk section. Valentine was just the one I found first.) --doorautomatica (talk) 05:30, 11 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

For what it's worth, I agree with the rationale and option b does sound better. Mxvxnyxvxn (talk) 03:57, 18 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Just passing through as I'm also doing a lot of copy editing, and I 100% agree this should be made into a character list. This is a classic case of WP:Pokémon test. Torchiest talk/contribs 11:57, 21 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
I think it would be best to create a list of the characters, there's a lot of repetition in the character articles about the character's role in the story and the main article plot section. However, I'd still like to keep quite a bit of info on the characters in the list. I'll do the list if need be, I've read the book a couple of times. Wait a moment, I've just spotted this page: List of Mortal Engines Quartet characters. WVRMADTalk Guestbook 12:31, 13 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

I personally agree that Valentine's page should be merged, because he is not the most important character in the book. He could easily be replaced by Shrike or Magnus Crome. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Validate!Me (talkcontribs) 09:42, 1 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Movie Adaptations changed to Movie Adaptation

edit

So far, there is only a single movie in production, not a franchise. Topic changed to reflect this.96.247.7.59 (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 01:08, 20 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Reclassed as B, although the article could do with a "spoiler free" ===Plot introduction== added toward the start and also a ==Literary significance & criticism== section if possible. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 11:30, 18 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Correction?

edit

The section below cites '1980s' in the first sentence and '1900s' in the last sentence. I'm guessing the second should be either '1990s' or possibly '2000s' but I'm not sure which. I'm also not sure the proper form to bring this to the attention of someone more knowledgeable than myself:

Philip Reeve has stated that his plans to write a science fiction novel were laid in the late 1980s.[2]

The original drafts were intended to be an adult novel, but after several rejections Scholastic said they might be interested in Mortal Engines as a children's story. In the refactoring the story was simplified, removing several characters and much content Reeve thought would not be interesting to children (city politics).[3]

The Mortal Engines world was originally written as an alternate universe in the early 1900s, but Reeve says this turned out to require just too much explaining as how and where history could have diverged.[3] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.24.36.81 (talk) 01:40, 29 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

I assume what is meant is that the books were originally going to be set in the early 1900s, not that Reeve wrote them in the early 1900s. I've re-worded it to make things clearer. IgnorantArmies (talk) 12:44, 29 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
If you find mistakes on articles, the best and easiest thing to do is to be bold and fix things yourself. If what needs fixing is more difficult, then the first place to go is the article's talk page (which is what this is). If that's not successful, then Help:Contents will probably give you what you're looking for. IgnorantArmies (talk) 12:49, 29 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

London

edit

Why is The first London in the subtitle of London links back to The Mortal Engines Quartet? It should link to the City of London.-turkeystar818, Novmember 18, 2017

Just look at the history of the target article and you'll see that User:TTN emptied the target of that article and made it a redirection without checking all the "What links here" made sense to link to the redirection's target article. 60.230.0.235 (talk) 02:27, 19 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
