According to "Jorge Semprun: Schreiben oder Leben (Frankfurt: Suhrkamp, 1995), pp. 28 ff. (First edition: L'écriture ou la vie, Paris: Gallimard, 1994)," he died of dysentery. I don't know how to add a note. I don't have the book.

I just edited the bit about M.H. dying in the arms of J.Semprun. Semprun's account contradicts itself in the several books he has written on the subject and is nearly certainly hyperbolic, and possibly altogether made up. The Halbwachs family, to my knowledge, is not impressed by Semprun's testimony. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Toche (talk • contribs) 22:24, 14 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
