The consensus is strong for the alternative proposal from Tavix as shown above, that is to move one page, to leave the other two pages as is and to redirect the very first page to the disambiguation page. (non-admin closure)  Paine  u/c 07:26, 9 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

– The current title's misleading for a start, because they're all footballers. However he's the only one of the three who's actually known as "Marcos Alonso", so I don't think the dab page is relevant. The others can revert to their more common names, according to the articles. Unreal7 (talk) 23:35, 31 August 2016 (UTC) --Relisting. GeoffreyT2000 (talk) 01:43, 8 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

To clarify, the other two should be left as-is. While they have gone by their nicknames, I don't believe they are common enough to overcome the WP:NATURAL disambiguation already in place. -- Tavix (talk) 21:57, 20 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
  • Comment if the primary topic is resolved, the disambiguation page still needs to move to Marcos Alonso (disambiguation) since there are clearly 3 items due to Spanish naming traditions (the "last name" being not the final, but the one before that) -- 65.94.171.217 (talk) 05:56, 27 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
  • Support Tavix alternative proposal. i.e. Move Marcos Alonso (footballer)Marcos Alonso Mendoza and leave others as is. I don't think there's an overwhelming PTOPIC here, and as Cuchullain says, they have all been called Marcos Alonso at one time or another. Clearly sources such as [1] do use the full names sometimes, so they are good disambiguators per WP:NATURALDIS.  — Amakuru (talk) 10:00, 3 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
Other than their legal names, no they haven't. Only the youngest player has. Unreal7 (talk) 15:47, 3 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Recent move edit

Hang on, why was WP:COMMONNAME not considered when moving the article title? The subject is almost exclusively referred to as Marcos Alonso, he is very rarely referred to by his full name of Marcos Alonso Mendoza. Mattythewhite (talk) 13:18, 9 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Mattythewhite: We had to distinguish him from his father and grandfather. "Marcos Alonso (footballer)" wasn't distinctive enough since they were both footballers as well. So to disambiguate, we went with what we call "natural disambiguation." While it's not his most commonly used name, it has been used by other sources to distinguish them in the past, and is (IMO) better than using date of birth. -- Tavix (talk) 14:08, 9 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
DOB was never an option. Unreal7 (talk) 08:54, 16 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
I would have suggested it had maternal surnames not been an option, so it's certainly plausible that would have been the next step. -- Tavix (talk) 14:05, 16 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

"Personal life and controversy" edit

Is a segment under the latter part of a subheading really the right place to put a convicted manslaughter case? In this article Henry Ruggs#2021 fatal car crash a new segment is given entirely for a case he has not been convicted for yet. "Personal life and drunk driving" edit

I feel as-though the small subsection on Alonso's driving accident could be explained in more detail, as I believe it' a very significant moment in his personal life. I am proposing a slight elongation of this passage, incorporating sources that are currently not being used. DovC123 (talk) 20:00, 25 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
