Nomination edit
Maybe it's a British/American English thing, but to me it looks like she has been nominated, regardless of whether the Senate subsequently confirms that nomination, she is Obama's nominee for the post, whether she's accepted for the post is subjected to Senate confirmation, but the Senate can't stop Obama nominating anyone he likes for the post (presuming they meet any prescribed qualifications). - Read the article. It clearly says "subject to Senate confirmation" and there's no need to repeat that in the lead. Instead of going after this one I'd suggest you try the US Geological Survey article. Actually, I will add "designate" there. -SusanLesch (talk) 15:14, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

Context is lacking edit
It is only peripheral here, but the reason why McNutt et al agreed to an overhaul of medical research papers (among others, I believe) is two-fold: 1. the spate of retractions and falsifications (including plagarisms and multi-publication of the same data) 2. The finding that medical research papers are among the LEAST replicable (poorest quality) in the entire Science-Medicine universe. Its also likely [imho] that her predecessor's, Albert's, pushing through the review of the S. Korean stem cell paper (later retracted) without adequate peer review, contributed. Most of this article is a laundry list of facts without providing context or links providing context. Since she is Editor, she often explains what she's doing, so its not like there isn't plenty of information on the context which is citable. Its also worthy of comment, imho, that her tenure as EiC at Science will likely be the shortest of any at AAAS.(and too short to likely make much (positive) impact, also imho).173.189.74.76 (talk) 14:09, 30 September 2015 (UTC)

Other female directors of the USGS edit
The source link for 23 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marcia_McNutt#cite_note-Stephens-23) does in fact say that McNutt was the first female director of the USGS "since its establishment in 1879" but the USGS's history page has no record of a female director, and Wiki's page for the USGS also does not list a female director. Honorific edit
Hi. An IP removed the honorific, so after restoring it I looked it up. The applicable law is the Title of Nobility Clause, better known as the emoluments clause of the U.S. Constitution. Because McNutt is not a civil servant, it won't apply to her. -SusanLesch (talk) 14:43, 24 August 2018 (UTC)
New Honorary degree edit
