Talk:Luton Airport Parkway railway station

Latest comment: 1 year ago by Cnbrb in topic Luton Airport Express

Err, is there something missing from this article edit

The article tells me this is the station for Luton Airport. Google Maps (using the coordinates in this article and the airport article) tells me the two are 2.1 miles apart by road. Which is rather a long way to walk with baggage.

So I'm guessing there is some kind of link. But the article doesn't mention anything about it, which is kind of bizarre. -- chris_j_wood (talk) 18:04, 8 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Even more bizarrely, I see that the referenced commons category actually contains a photograph of a coach that allegedly operates a free shuttle service between the station and the airport. Why would the article not mention that?. -- chris_j_wood (talk) 18:08, 8 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
Ok, found the info I was after on the article Luton Airport. Transposed it here. Strange that it wasn't just about the first thing that got written about this station. -- chris_j_wood (talk) 18:15, 8 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
It's good practice to categorise images on Commons, but Commons are under no obligation to inform Wikipedia that an image has been placed in a category. The contents of the categories on commons only need to relate to the name of the category, they don't need to relate to text in a Wikipedia article. For an image, all that Commons requires (besides licensing and attribution) is that the image must fall within the Commons project scope, it doesn't have to be used in a Wikipedia article. This image, for example, has almost zero possible use on a Wikipedia article - it's primarily used on meta:Meetup/Oxford/8 and similar pages. It is possible that the German or Dutch articles mention something that the English article does not; there is no requirement that they be direct translations. --Redrose64 (talk) 19:06, 8 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
I think you misunderstood, apologies if my comment wasn't clear. I wasn't saying that it was strange that the photo wasn't used in the article; I was saying that I found it strange that somebody had spent time writing quite a significant article without asking (or at least answering) the obvious question as to how the subject of that article fulfilled its stated purpose (serving the airport). The reference to the photo was simply adducing evidence as to the fact that there was an answer to be had. -- chris_j_wood (talk) 10:27, 9 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Luton Airport Express edit

How does Luton Airport Express fit in? Are all EMR services from this station branded Luton Airport Express or are there other EMR trains? It seems due a mention now. Cnbrb (talk) 20:55, 2 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
