New article on Donalds - DoBIH table at October 2018 edit

The most complicated formula for a mountain classification that I know. Hopefully, I have captured it. Will add the "New Donalds" later. The critical element is that this list is from the best database in the British Isles, the DoBIH. Please do not change or update this data UNLESS you are re-downloading the DoBIH for Grahams. It is important that this table maintains its sourcing as a DoBIH data table as at October 2018, otherwise, it will become unusable (as what happens to many lists of mountains in Wikipedia). If you feel the data is wrong, check the database and contact DoBIH - do not change the table, or else it becomes WP:OR. Britishfinance (talk) 20:26, 8 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

– The accompanying category came up in the CfD at Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2020_June_22#Category:Donalds, with concerns that its name does not match this article. However, the names of these articles are self-redundant, since the Donalds, etc. are all Scottish by definition. The other lists of Scottish mountains and hills are also self-redundant. The proposals advanced here align with those for the categories of English mountains and hills, except that all the pages require disambiguators to clarify that they're mountains and not people. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 13:12, 27 June 2020 (UTC) Relisting. User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 17:28, 5 July 2020 (UTC)Relisting. —usernamekiran (talk) 09:29, 5 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

partial close - for Grahams, Corbetts and Murdos - these seem to be in agreement among discussants; Donald and Munros remain undecided - will relist to allow further discussion on those articles. --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 17:28, 5 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • @LaundryPizza03: I would agree on the titles of these changes as, as you mention, they are all Scottish. I have created the pages for over half of the Donald hills (and the tops redirects) but was not the creator of the Donalds page in question. The Donalds and Munro pages are both slightly problematic as Grahams and Corbetts also have tops but are extremely numerous and are beyond the scope of Wikipedia. The Donalds (hills and tops) are officially one entity, while the Munros and Munro Tops are not and are instead separate but related. The current Munros and tops page is currently quite ugly looking with two enormous tables and I suggest the Munros and Munro Tops are made into separate pages, but not to separate the Donald and Tops. For the suggested titles, I agree with all of them.

  • I have made many of the above articles (and brought the head article, Lists of mountains and hills in the British Isles to GA. I agree in principle with your suggestions (e.g. remove "Scotland" as unnecessary and replace with "(mountains)"). I would not agree with calling Donalds "Hills", and although there are various references calling them hills and mountains, being above 2,000 ft, and thus meet the legal requirement for a mountain (Lists of mountains and hills in the British Isles#Elevation). I would also not be in favour of splitting the articles into mountains and tops as it would require largely duplicating the lede; given that the mountain and tops tables are from the same source, keeping them together will increase the chances that they are simultaneously updated as prominences are updated. thanks. • @Britishfinance: Although I would really be content with either, Percy Donald himself and the SMC of which he is part, do still refer to his tables as 'hills', not 'mountains', although they are, by modern standards, definitely mountains. For the sake of continuity I would not be wholly against your suggestion of referring to them as the latter, particularly as it includes the New Donalds as well which utilised modern prominence criteria. Perhaps there is a way of making the Munros and tops page more visually-pleasing without separating them (i.e. having tops as a column within the munro table?) Anyway I digress. iangpark (talk) 16:49, 29 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose per Amakuru. Moving to List of Donald mountains would be better. I think the editors of the topic need to have a small discussion first to have a clear idea before proposing a move. Everyone is looking quite confused. Nomian (talk) 04:53, 24 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
