List of Doctor Who episodes (1963–1989) → List of Doctor Who episodes (1963–1996) – This article includes the 1996 Paul McGann TV movie. The discussion at the time of the complete episode list article being split does not provide a consensus for the –1989 title, just one user suggesting it to no resistance. The proposed title is more WP:PRECISE, and per longstanding project consensus not to treat Doctor Who as two (or three, now) separate series there is no need to be concerned with designated 'eras' above accuracy in this titling. Although its support isn't required in my opinion, nevertheless BBC iPlayer now uses 1963–1996 for its classic series section. Oppose The BBC iPlayer cite is interesting, given that it also uses Season 1 for the 2024 season, but the entire argument against using that source has been that we go by the commonn naming, not the official naming. This article lists the classic era and the 1996 special; the classic era is agreed upon to be 1963–1989 - that is the common date range for the common era, which is the more relevant piece of information in comparison to the "official" cite's date range. This is supported by the series overview table, which only lists the classic era in the main table, plus the Eighth Doctor special separately. This is exactly the same as how we don't include revived-era Christmas specials in the main series overview table or even year headers; List of Doctor Who episodes (2005–present)#Series 2 (2006) is "Series 2 (2006)", not "Series 2 (2005–2006)", as the special is not considered as airing as part of the grouping it is in. I'm going to use a quote from Rhain here at the other move discussion: it's similar to List of The Simpsons episodes (seasons 1–20) including The Simpsons Movie as a separate section despite the fact that it's not a season. -- Alex_21 _TALK 13:20, 11 May 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for using the source that I directly acknowledged wasn't of fundamental importance and included for completion's sake as the cornerstone of your objection. Moving on from that, pointing to the series overview's arrangement in this article to justify the title is rather odd. Obviously the article's content is highly likely to reflect what the article is currently titled; it can also be changed from its current strange non-chronological arrangement, and in my opinion it should be. I strongly disagree this is the same consideration as the series/season year designations (which I have in no way suggested should be changed), or The Simpsons split. If Doctor Who series 2 was instead List of Doctor Who episodes (2006), then there'd be a comparison to make here, but of course it isn't. The Simpsons has a film that isn't an episode of the television series, whereas Doctor Who has a TV movie that is overwhelmingly considered a part of the series. Oppose The TV movie isn't an "episode" and while narratively within the original series, really shouldn't be grouped with those given that we've breaking out NuWho from that. Because of how this is necessarily titled ("list of" and the date range) readers aren't likely going to ever find their way to this page on the first hit after a simple search. The 1996 movie likely should be on this page because it is a movie, though its inclusion here seems more by a lack of anywhere else to place it. In looking around, List of Doctor Who episodes probably should have more details such at the overall table that's transluded here, and better inclusion of the Christmas specials which are just given as links.
