Biréli Lagrène

edit

Hi it`s the 23rd of september 2016. Biréli Lagrène is a gipsy-guitar-player and I found his version of just the way you are on youtube (Bireli Lagrene Trio feat. Didier Lockwood - Festival de Jazz de Vitoria-Gasteiz 2010); it`s the first song. Could the more experienced wikipedia-users please decide if or how that could or should be taken into the article? I find this version has a style not yet represented among the cover-versions mentioned in the wikipedia-article. Thanks from Germany, Lutz. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:8071:2687:8B00:890B:C541:E9C0:A358 (talk) 20:13, 23 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Our Guideline on such things, WP:COVERSONG, basically says we limit cover versions to versions that would otherwise merit their own article (see WP:NSONG) and versions that are discussed in independent reliable sources about the song.
Lagrène's version does not seem to meet the first criterion (i.e., it has not charted on a national chart and is not the subject of non-trivial coverage in independent reliable sources).
As for the second possibility, we would be looking for a reliable source that is about the song and discusses Lagrène's cover of it. - SummerPhDv2.0 22:18, 23 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Front covers

edit

Hey again, JGabbard. I reinserted the vinyl side label after receiving a bot notification about then-orphaned image. If you have issues with one of my uploads, please notify me before removing or replacing one of them, like File:Just the Way You Are by Billy Joel US vinyl.jpg. To be fair, however, I did not remove the Dutch vinyl front cover, which you uploaded. We might retain both of them indefinitely, but I thought about taking both images to FFD soon or one month later because I felt that article talk pages are not well equipped to handle fair use multimedia content. Also, FFD attracts experts on multimedia copyright more than article talk pages, to be honest. Thoughts? --George Ho (talk) 06:37, 27 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi, George. I apologize, and will do so in the future. I agree, FFD may not be useful to us right now. Thank you for not removing the image, as I find that readers do appreciate cover art and generally prefer to see it in the lede position, as do I. And it does seem odd to have the caption "Alternative cover art" under a side label, since record company labels cannot generally be considered as 'art' because they are generic and are vary little in appearance from song to song. - JGabbard (talk) 11:51, 27 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
No worries, JGabbard. Um, I said that FFD is a better venue than article talk page. You must have overlooked, mustn't you? Currently, FFD is no longer suffering from heavy backlog like before. (There might be some backlog... no longer heavy.) The WP:PROD now applies to files, which would clean out the backlogging of FFD. Regarding the images, I changed from "cover art" to "release". BTW, images of Rock with You were taken to FFD, and then the US image was kept. I added the banner at Talk:Rock with You in case you want to challenge the deletion. --George Ho (talk) 12:44, 27 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
Honestly George, I am not attuned to FFD. Your caption change is a good one. No need, however, to antagonize. I will not oppose you at every turn. - JGabbard (talk) 12:43, 28 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Richie Cannata

edit

At one stage, it was stated that Richie Cannata's saxophone style wasn't suitable for the song, hence the recruitment of Phil Woods. Is there any source to substantiate this?203.221.128.210 (talk) 00:56, 3 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Daft Punk sample

edit

I know this and "The Stranger" are sampled on the Daft Punk track "High Fidelity" from Homework. Theobegley2013 (talk) 16:35, 10 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Can you cite a source that mentions this? jhsounds (talk) 17:43, 10 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
