Castro charts

iTunes charts are not credible charts as they are not the standard, the Billboard Hot Digital Song chart however is based upon all digital sales of the week, not merely iTunes, and is well established. Also, the Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart is not the Hot 100 chart, it is an extension for those songs which did not reach the Hot 100 - gaining number 13 on this chart equals 113 on the overall chart. The Billboard pop chart is a credible chart as well. Only Hallelujah is notable as a chart entry, the iTunes sales during the season were not reported and the iTunes chart positions are not sourced, therefore they should not be put in the article. Colombian-America

I changed the intro to read "is an American..." instead of "is a Colombian-American...". Unless Castro self-identifies as a Colombian-American, or is strongly associated with being specifically Colombian, this doesn't belong in the intro. I understand what you are saying, I suppose you probably haven't seen many of the interviews below were Castro identifies himself as a Colombian American, his association with Colombia, his Colombian roots and talks about his Colombian heritage frequently.

Colombian Americans are citizens of the United States who trace their nationality or heritage from the South American nation of Colombia. Thats the definition of Colombian Americans. Also, according to the definition of a Colombian American here in wikipedia cultural traditions in the United States of Colombian American "The main pastime of Colombians in the United States is soccer, Colombian Americans raised in the United States will continue to follow soccer." Castro also follows that tradition. Castro plays soccer, was a member of his highschool soccer team and is a member of the Higher Goal Soccer Ministry. Castro is a textbook example of what a Colombian American is, a citizen from the United States that traces his heritage to the South American country of Colombia. He also said in an interview that one of his favorite places to go is to Colombia. He has always proudly associated himself with his colombian heritage as you can see in the sources below. Castro himself states in an interview that his family is from Colombia so he is not exacly a Texan. (you can see the interview below)

Archuleta's case is different. Archuleta's mother is from Honduras and his father is from Spain. Its different. But in Jason's case both his parents are from Colombia. His whole family is from Colombia. Castro has always talked about Colombia and him being hispanic. He sang in spanish during Idol. Even during his performances of "I Shot the Sheriff" and "Mr Tambourine Man", he wore a Colombian flag pin on his guitar strap. He's obviously proud of his heritage and has expressed it many times during interviews. As you can see in the sources below.

Is not tracing his ancestry elsewhere. He is first generation. His whole family is from Colombia. He considers himself to be colombian american and he has been in close contact all his life with Colombia; visiting the country and following colombian traditions. These are all either mention it only in superlative, or don't use the term "Colombian American". Buddytv.com, imdb, and spock.com would not be considered reliable sources, and again, they simply mention it in superlative form. Latina.com never actually uses the term "Colombian American", again just emphasizing he is Colombian, which is not in dispute. I'm not seeing any solid sourcing to justify Wikipedia using the term in the lead, we already have ample coverage of his Colombian history elsewhere in the article. I'll let it stand for a bit Casarch, but unless you can show consensus or provide some solid, reliable sources, it's gonna have to revert to "American". We have to also consider that he himself self-identifies with being a colombian american. How he feels and identifies himself is fundamental. Also equally important is the definition of what a colombian american is. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colombian_American Which is exacly what Castro is. I just dont understand why would anyone would be strongly against him being a colombian american. What are the reasons? There is absolutely nothing wrong with him being of Colombian descent. My issue is that I don't see why Americans (or Canadians or Australians, etc) should be hyphenated based on their ethnicity or where their parents came from. Zenitram82 (talk) 01:08, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

Agree with Zenitram, the point isn't whether or not he actually is of Colombian heritage, and I don't think anyone has anything against it. It's just that we shouldn't be hyphenating people just because they happen to be of this ancestry or that ancestry. If someone strongly identifies *himself* as fundamentally <blank>-American, then that's one thing. However, I looked through a few of the references above, and all I've seen is people making references to the fact that he's from Colombia, or Jason mentioning that his family is from Colombia. As I said before, this info absolutely belongs in the bio, but I'm not sure whether or not the intro should refer to him as "Colombian-American", because that implies that that is fundamental to his fame or relevance, which it's not.
