Here is some basic information which may help us. James Melvelle (sic) D Hepburn married Emily Preston in Royston registration district Q1 1903. We find two girls Gladys Daphne M Hepburn (Q4 1904, Kingston RD) and Joan Yvonne M Hepburn (Q2 1906 Kingston RD). The reason these are correct is that we know from http://www.antiquegolfscotland.com/antiquegolf/maker.php3?makerid=633 that James emigrated in May 1915 and we can find them all on http://www.libertyellisfoundation.org/ (see under Jas Melville Hepburn) on the SS New York. James is aged 38, golfer, 5 ft. 9 in. born Carnoustie. He is with his wife Emily (born Royston) and two daughters Gladys Daphne (10) and Joan Yvonne (9) (both born Surbiton). All fits very well.

He get a few notices in the papers in early 1920. "has returned to England after several years' absence in the United States of America". http://www.libertyellisfoundation.org/ has him travelling alone and returning to the US on the Adriatic in March 1920, aged 43 Golf Professional fro Southampton L I, now 5 ft. 9.5 in. He is found again returning to the US in April 1922 but now his wife in Ann (aged 33) born Newport, USA but British. Again in April 1923 with Ann. Again returning May 1925 with Anne.
