How did he get away with it?

After watching a CNN 'Battlegrounds' programme on Doe Run Peru's shoddy environmental track record, I decided to look further into Ira L. Rennert's corporate operations, particularly given that this American multimillionaire is keen to avoid any unwanted publicity.

I have been absolutely staggered to find out how he amassed his fortune. The way he used his acquisitions to issue high-yielding junk bonds and then to pay part of the received income into Renco Group Inc., his privately-owned holding company, beggars belief. The main question is, who were the fools who purchased these junk bonds? Surely they should have realized what Rennert's long-term strategy was all about? Secondly, why didn't the US regulatory authories, particularly the Securities and Exchange Commission, not take action to prevent this channeling of funds? It seems that the laws pertaining to privately-held holding companies were extremely lax at the time and that US regulatory law continues to be so, given the latest scandal surrounding Bernard Madoff and his $50 billion Ponzi scheme scam [[1]].Ivankinsman (talk) 12:50, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

One does have to wonder don't they? That being said, this guy is one of the neocon/zionist untouchables in the US, and so are a lot of his friends (Silverstein, Bolton, Dershowitz, etc). He has been in legal battles for years in perpetual delays with him suing the Peruvian government over the pollution matter, then suing his former lawyers for a botched defense. The guy obviously has friends in high places that allow him to set up deals that shouldn't be, weasel out of immediate action, and remain heavily embedded in the Den of Thieves world of legal and financial scandals. Evidently the truth will come out at some point but it takes a lot of work to put the pieces together and I don't as of yet know of any books that cover this topic since the 1990s. Early Career section: "This occurred again" - what, exactly?

It seems that some edits have been made to the Early Career section, leaving the present version without a clear account of what happened that led to him starting his own firm and eventually to his license being revoked. Dead links in US Magnesium environmental improvements subsection

I've been attempting to follow the citation links on the subsection about US Magnesium's environmental improvements, and it seems like all but the final link are either dead (2nd through 4th links) or do not actually link to the information being claimed, but only to a search page on a larger technical database without the information (ex. search keys) included to actually locate the referenced data. Only the fifth link is both functional and actually reports the information it's being cited for.

I'm not a regular Wikipedia editor and am not sure what the operating procedure in these situations is - should I be tagging the paragraph somehow, or outright removing the information? It of course seems strange to me that this paragraph appears to include a lot of laudatory information about this company, attributed largely to the EPA, which at the time was engaged in federal lawsuits against the company and had recently declared them a national superfund site of the highest priority (as referenced in functional citation links on the page for US Magnesium's parent company, the Renco Group), and yet almost all the citations are broken or obfuscatory -- but since I'm not a regular editor, I'm not certain how common this sort of thing is on Wikipedia. I could imagine that this often occurs just through natural degradation of source links and so am hesitant to just delete the information.
