Fortune Magazine

The article refers to the Excel being named "best product 10" by Fortune. What the hell does this mean? One of the 10 best products? Or is 10 a rating? I think this is likely a translation error; someone who knows the reference should correct it. siafu 23:12, 14 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Name

Who what where when why Hyundai? Is it a family name or mean something? Hyacinth 01:05, 21 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Hyundai in Korean means "today" or "modern" or "contemporary" so technically saying that "Hyundai" is at the top of today's technology and culture. FYI a lot of people make fun of Hyundai because they believe that it is a Korean carbon-copy of Honda (Hyun-dai, Hon-da, sounds really similar) but this is not true. Honda is a name of the founder of Honda and Hyundai is just a word. People can use the word "Hyundai" in a sentence without refering to the auto company. Oyo321 02:26, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

Model line up

Is the model line up in chronological order? If so, we should say so, and preferably give dates. Can anyone verify? Earthlyreason 09:58, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

What the???

One of the commercials I REALLY hate is the "Hyundai Big Duh" Sales Event!!!!!!! You might not heard of it, but I think it only shows it only in my state. 24.251.234.86 04:26, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

Non NPOV

There is content in the history section that is clearly biased. The "author" even makes this statement: "In short, an engineer will offer the following quote, perhaps in violation of Wikipedia's policy of lack of bias: Avoid any and all Hyundai products unless you have a burning desire to learn mechanics quickly."

I agree. This article needs attention. --Boivie 16:16, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

Yes, this article is very POV and inaccurate. It seems to focus on an outdated image of Hyundai as a poor-quality producer of cheap automobiles. The fact of the matter is Hyundai was recently ranked second (after Toyota) in Initial Quality, according to J.D. Power & Associates: http://www.jdpower.com/special/powerreport/hyundai/hyunindex.asp

The Yugo article has a more positive spin than this article. And that car died a long while ago.

I've noticed there are quite a few anti-Korean posters at Wikipedia.--Sir Edgar 02:22, 6 February 2006 (UTC)

I don't know, might be because of the nasty way many Koreans act? Just my guess.

I removed but they are still regularly found to be inferior to those competitors in comparisons in the motoring press. - utter nonsense.

In no more than 30 seconds, I turned up the following:

  • 2003: CNBC India Autocar, Car of the Year: Hyundai Scorpio
  • 2002, CNBC India Autocar, Manufacturer of the Year.
  • 2001 Queensland Car of the Year (Australia) Outstanding Light Car - Hyundai Accent
  • 2000 Queensland Car of the Year (Australia) Outstanding Light Car - Hyundai Elantra GLS
  • 1999, Carguide (Canada) People's Choice Award - Hyundai Elantra
  • 1998, Carguide (Canada) Best Buy award - Hyundai Accent (third year running)
  • 1997 Canadian car of the year, Best New Sports Coupe/Convertible - Tiburon
  • 1997 Motoring Television (Canada), Best new sports car award - Hyundai Tiburon
  • 1996: Carguide Magazine (Canada) Best Buy award: Hyundai Accent (2nd year running)
  • 1996: Automotive Journalist Association of Canada (AJAC),Best New Sports Coupe in Canada: Hyundai Tiburon

(OK, it took me ages to write them up, but that was just the first two pages on Google, and left out ones that didn't look genuine. (i.e., no small-town local rag awards - only majors). PS - I don't own a Hyundai - never have. Don't particularly care about them one way or another. But nonsense is nonsense. Tannin

I've found that Wikipedia has been very biased. To assert that the article is written with nasty comments simply because that is the way "Koreans act" is very insulting and offensive, at best. Please refrain from making such intolerant statements, even if it just a "guess." If that was the situation, then I should have all my friends come onto Wikipedia and start writing anti-whatever notes and comments on subjects which I find offensive. Thank you for your contributions in any case to this page--I agree that it needs work! Azntokki 07:24, 4 December 2007 (UTC)Azntokki

I don't think hyundai is principally involved in manufacturing automobiles. I've seen their logo on everything from computer chips to beef... maybe the disambiguation page from "Hyundai" should be updated? -66.92.165.41 22:09, 11 Aug 2003 (UTC)

There really should be some kind of explanation about why Hyundai Motor Co. had to do such a massive overhaul of its public image. Wikipedia is NOT AN ADVERTISING site and this page reads like a advertisement. We want information, not propaganda. 71.32.232.183 (talk) 18:07, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

I removed the statement in the history section that stated: "until 2005, when it started losing market share. In December 2005 for example, sales plunged 20%". This is clearly incorrect as anybody can find out by a simple google search that Hyundai's sales were in fact up 15.8pct from the year prior. I was going to provide corrected data in it's place but decided to leave it with out actual sales results to maintain neutrality. User: SWF

World's largest automaker by profit?

"Hyundai Motor Company [...] is the world's largest automaker by profit,[1]" Is it possible to have an English source? Not many editors read Korean. I temporary remove it pending clarification from a better source.--North wiki (talk) 19:30, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

Request for removal of neutrality and clean-up tags.

Hi, I went in and edited out POV and cleaned up the article a bit. I think it still reads very American. After all, Hyundai is a Korean company. So, it should have more Korean content. I'd be interested in getting information about its history in Korea.

Anyhow, I think it's time to remove the tags.--Sir Edgar 23:55, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

Done. — Phil Welch 02:16, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

I removed the following from the History section: "Up until the mid-1990s, however, Hyundai cars were often perceived as low-end and unreliable due to their build quality, a fact borne out of their continued use of bullet connectors, under-rated alternators, poor paint, and Kettering ignitions."

Bigotry, fabrication, intentional misrepresentation of products/company and personal opinion have no place in editing encyclopaedia.

Please do not add "rebadges of Debonair/Proudia" references to the Hyundais. Both cars were concurrently developed with Hyundais; it's not that the Grandeur/Equus is based on the Mitsubishi's or the other way around. In case of Equus, it actually came out 7 months BEFORE the Proudia.

Also Bering is NOT a truck manufacturing/engineering company. Hyundai Motor Company made the trucks FOR them on OEM-basis.

You keep reversing my corrections and I'll remove ALL references to Australian market Hyundai cars. Understood?

Needs a big Point of View fix; press release tone. 173.210.125.42 (talk) 04:05, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

Hyundai or Hyundai??

How is the name pronounced. In North America it seems to be pronounced 'Hun-day' but In Britain it seems to be pronounced 'Hiun-die'. What is the Korean pronunciation?? 77.100.16.146 (talk) 03:40, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

It's pronounced Hyun-De... I know this from speaking the language. Type this "현대" into Google Translate to hear it Jji7skyline (talk) 06:51, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
I think it is pronounced "hyon day" (two syllables). This impression comes from living in South Korea for four years and from being able to read Korean script. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Newzild (talkcontribs) 06:02, 4 November 2014 (UTC)

I thought it reasonable to remove all three existing pics from this article when I loaded in my fresh five because:
- none of the three have any copyright information whatever,
- the uploader can't be contacted because he/she (called Brothering) has no talk page,
- two of the three pics are very small even when clicked on.
