Sponsors edit

Should we have a list of sponsors on a wikipedia article?

Rationale for Inclusion in List of Performers edit

I reversed a reformatting which had the (I thought) accidental effect of eliminating two artists from the list.

But reviewing the history, I saw another simple deletion of a performer with the comment "not meant to show every performer", and on February 2, other deletions of performers among the list, and another dating back to January 29 with similar comments justifying the deletions of performers on the list.

To "Twas Now" especially, I challenge the idea that the list should not be comprehensive. It seems to be inherent in the very definition of encyclopedia.

Editors are often concerned about the relevance of topics, or sections on those topics. Here, we have a list entitled "List of Past Performers". I see that at some point, a subtitle has been added that mentions "notable performers".

I think it's problematic for editors to maintain a list of past performers that adopts a criterion for inclusion related to notability. Not only will the definition of "notability" change as performers blossom and others wither on the vine, but I think in many cases, readers consulting a list of performers at the event may well be looking for facts related to a comprehensive list, not just notable performers. That's why I originally consulted the article.

Anyway, I look forward to discussion. I would like to see as complete a list of possible of performers. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Willondon (talkcontribs) 23:35, 3 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

This is the 26th year of the festival, and there have been literally hundreds of performers at Hillside. I might venture that the number of performers is approaching 1,000. I'm not sure a list of 1,000 items would work well in this article. Perhaps a separate List of Hillside Festival performers? Information on performers from the 80s and 90s is scarce, however. — Twas Now ( talkcontribse-mail ) 00:28, 4 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
When you say "literally hundreds of performers", you're not saying 'literally' meaning figuratively, are you? Surely "approaching 1,000" is meant figuratively. Just playing with those words, heh ho. Looks like there's a metric butt-load of performers to consider. I think your suggestion of a separate list of performers is the solution. If nobody implements the suggestion in the next few weeks, I'll take it upon myself to learn how to do that in Wikipedia. Cheers

Artistic Directors edit

James Gordon was Artistic Director for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th festival. I was AD (Sue Richards) for 6,7 and 8. Mary Joy Aiken took over for 9 and 10. Then I think a committee took over for a couple of years followed by Mike McCloud for a couple years - sorry dates are fuzzy. Around #16 Sam Bajal took the reins.

Does this seem pertinent for the Hillside Festival page?

Notability. edit

There are some details of this article's body which don't appear to, from my position, meet notability guidelines-- details like the youth committee calling themselves the "tofu-loving-punx", or the exact lineup of musicians in 1985. While I would just remove these things myself, there is such a large amount of non-notable content that a thorough revision must be done to deem exactly what is or isn't worthy of being included in the encyclopedia, and I'm sure some disagreements will surface. There is also a lot of uncited content which should be removed. I'll begin removing some such unencyclopedic content, but in order to avoid a mess of reverts and disagreements, I'd like to seek the opinions of the other editors of this page. Nevermind-- the whole history section was a copyright violation. Removed it all. Zortwort (talk) 05:43, 27 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
