Regarding the current naming conventions, I am most unhappy with the outcome with individuals like this person: Jadwiga herself was never known as princess and it was not used of her. Thus, the princess in her article title is an obvious anachronism. As she is also currently just a name in history books that speak about her position as a better candidate to the throne than her half-brother and practically in no other context, she is even not currently referred to as "princess". Thus, the NC requiring the use of some title before her personal name, is simply an untenable policy. The same applies to almost all medieval younger members of dynasties - the title "prince"/"princess" was not in that sort of use then, and is usually not even today for them. Why exactly is she named Jadwiga of Lithuania here? She was born to a Polish-German family (tied to both Jagiellon dynasty and Piast dynasty, as a heir to the throne of Poland (and not Lithuania). Is there something I'm missing here? //Halibu tt 08:54, 26 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

We need a disambiguation, but the 'of Lithuania' seems strange (no Google Print hits), and Jadwiga of Poland is already taken. Jadwiga (8 April 1408 - 8 December 1431) of the House of Jagiellon was a daughter of Władysław II Jagiełło (ca. 1351-1434), King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania by his second wife Anna of Celje (1380-1416). Jadwiga received her name in honor of her deceased stepmother, Jadwiga of Poland (died in 1400) who later was canonized as saint.

If Jadwiga of Poland died in 1400, she could hardly have been the stepmother of this Jadwiga, who had a mother of her own. Or am I missing something? qp10qp 01:45, 29 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
