Nickname - trying to add back...

edit

To the **mb editor who removed the nickname - see the player's ATP Profile, the nickname is clearly stated there. Also, I can't seem to add the nickname back - what am I doing wrong?? Naki (talk) 20:20, 11 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

With such an etymological Greek first and second name, no Greek heritage? 101.163.96.151 (talk) 05:11, 21 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
What? Grigor is a common Bulgarian name, and Greek has nothing to do with it. Family name "Dimitrov" would be maybe "Demetrius/Dimitrios" in Greek, again nothing to do with his actual last name. Naki (talk) 10:52, 10 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Article class - Stub...?

edit

Why is this article rated as Stub class? What criteria does it fail to be rated Start class? Thanks! Naki (talk) 19:40, 13 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

No one? Naki (talk) 19:13, 22 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure what the process is in determining what "class" an article is, but I'm assuming that you can get it re-classed somehow. In my opinion, this article is certainly no longer a stub. JayJ47 (talk) 22:28, 22 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
Any suggestions how to ask for this/whom to ask? It has been several years now!! :(Naki (talk) 17:39, 28 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
It's now on the list for "reclassifying". Probably start to C class, but we'll find out. Fyunck(click) (talk) 19:52, 28 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
  Done. Someone did it pretty quickly...thanks. Fyunck(click) (talk) 03:05, 29 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, and thanks to the other Wikipedian who did this. :) Naki (talk) 16:21, 3 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Trying to add references, won't work, please help!

edit

This is driving me crazy. Please help!! I am trying to add some URL/web site references in the 2013 section. The first reference works just fine, but was not added by me. I am trying to mimic it, but it simply won't work! Instead of showing a small baloon/tooltip next to the reference numbers, by own references highlight the part at the bottom. Why!? What am I doing wrong? Thanks! Naki (talk) 11:13, 19 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

OK, I got it! It seems when the references are in the web browser view, they get highlighted. If they are not (are below the visible area), a tooltip/baloon appears instead. :) Naki (talk) 11:59, 19 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Way too much detail

edit

2010 and 2011 or ok. 2012 starts to get much too wordy and detailed and 2013 is ridiculous. It's only March and it bigger than 2009,10 and 11 combined. This needs to be drastically edited. Fyunck(click) (talk) 20:57, 23 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

I agree. I think it's a case of WP:RECENTISM. Either the 2013 tournament results should be only briefly mentioned, or they should go to a separate article (something like 2013 Roger Federer tennis season).—J. M. (talk) 03:44, 24 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Strongly disagree. I tried to write the 2013 section as briefly as possible, not sure where you see anything too detailed. Anyway, if you think it is too long, feel free to fix - but in a good way! :) I am not criticizing articles about your country's players, so I kindly ask you to to criticize articles I edit about MY OWN country's players. Thanks! Naki (talk) 11:27, 27 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
This is an article about Grigor Dimitrov. It should tell who he is, and present an overview of his career. The level of detail especially in the 2013 season is absolutely insane. It does not take the article as a whole into account at all. There is a brief section about coaching, personal life, and then there is the superlong 2013 section that describes how many breaks of serve he had in each match on every tournament, including doubles matches, etc. It is absolutely crazy. What does it say about Grigor? How important is it? How notable is it? For a comparison, please see Novak Djokovic#2013, David Ferrer#2013 or Andy Murray#2013. These players are much more notable than Grigor Dimitrov, yet their 2013 season sections are very short. Again, please look at the article as a whole and see if mentioning every single detail of every single match Grigor played in 2013 is such a massively important fact that must be mentioned in an encyclopedic article about him. Why are the 2013 matches so important that they must be explained in such great detail? Just because they are recent? Then again, please read WP:RECENTISM. Why are they so much more significant than the 2012 or 2011 matches that they deserve so much more detail? A match Grigor played on March 25, 2013 may look important to you on March 25, 2013, but when you read the article in 2023, will it really be so significant that it must take up so much space in an encyclopedic article about Grigor Dimitrov? I really think you lack perspective here. And this is still just the beginning of the season. If you imagine how this article would look at the end of 2013... This is clearly unsustainable. So please, if you really want to include so much detail, consider moving the section to a new, separate article (2013 Grigor Dimitrov tennis season).
Also, countries are absolutely irrelevant in this discussion, please let's keep the discussion to the point.—J. M. (talk) 05:45, 28 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Absolutely do not create a 2013 Grigor Dimitrov tennis season as it will not pass muster of notability. Per tennis project consensus only players who have won a Major at some point in their careers are allowed seasonal articles. You can have a separate career statistics article if for some reason it won't fit on the main page. Fyunck(click) (talk) 07:45, 28 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Forgot to mention - the 2012 section is shorter, because it is missing vital info, for example Dimitrov's Davis Cup results for that year, and also he played less doubles in 2012 than in 2013. So, it is normal for the 2013 section to be a bit longer. Naki (talk) 08:59, 28 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yes but 2013 is longer and it's only March. I fixed the wording a lot. I'm not sure doubles interest is high enough to list every round's wins and losses. Usually in doubles I only see finals victors and losers' names. I left some of these in though. We also don't usually list players nationalities nor do we give blow by blow descriptions of matches and their turning points. It is a good year for Mr. Dimitrov, I sure hope he keeps it up. Fyunck(click) (talk) 09:05, 28 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Fyunck, thanks for the edits, well done! :) I just made a few minor punctuation corrections (and removed duplicated name of Davydenko). Naki (talk) 14:19, 29 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Goodness 2013 and 2014 are way over bloated sections. They should pretty much all look like the 2011 section. Fyunck(click) (talk) 08:34, 26 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Strongly disagree. Your mouse has a scroll wheel - use it (or maybe PgUp/PgDn). :) On a touchscreen phone/tablet, it is even easier - just a quick flick of the finger and you are scrolled to end of article, so no problems there either. Naki (talk) 07:50, 3 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Junior Grand Slam in Infobox?

edit

This was recently added by some editoress. Is it not against some Wikipedia tennis articles policy to add those "achievements" to the Infobox of a tennis player along with senior/ATP achievements? I don't recall seeing any other tennis player Wikipedia article listing BOTH Junior and grown-up Slam results lumped together in the Infobox. So, is this OK - what do you guys/gals think? Naki (talk) 20:58, 4 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Not sure what the consensus is on this. My own opinion is I hate it. It may be fine to list jrs if that's all one has played... but both is ridiculous. If I see it I would delete the jr trivia. Fyunck(click) (talk) 04:54, 5 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

A reminder on yearly articles

edit

Yearly articles are "only" allowed on players that have won a singles grand slam tournament. Otherwise info is to be contained in the main article or the player's career statistics article. Fyunck(click) (talk) 09:48, 19 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
